while I generally agree with your statement, I think we can safely conclude that describing the care shown in this video as "little" is an understatement :D

@@pixelmaster98 little in the sense that he is one person and this isn't a huge community or federal project consisting of a large group of people and planners. it is 'little' and that's okay

@@critiqueofthegothgf Plus, even if he did just a fraction of what he ended up doing, it would still go a good ways to improving diversity and density for the flora, fauna, AND fungi. If we all took care of our property just a little bit better, many other things might just improve, and more than a person may think!

As a student who want to be ornithologist, do you know what I should do ?
@wildwithsoren
@wildwithsoren 5 ай бұрын
@@sixtine9856 There's a few routes you can take. I personally didn't know I wanted to be an ornithologist and just did a regular biology degree in uni. I got really hooked on birds through volunteering (bird banding stations, local conservation organisations, ...) and through that landed a few internships and through one of those internships a job as a full time ornithologist. I would say most importantly get outside, get familiar with your local birds and learn how to ID them (especially their calls and songs). That's a skill highly sought after for environmental assessment studies and monitorings. Lots of people can live off that kind of work as freelance ornithologists for example. Otherwise I can only suggest to get on eBird, contact local birders, tag along with them and learn from them. Some universities also offer ornithology classes/courses either as a full degree or as part of a biology/environmental science degree. That's just my personal experience. Depending where you are from I'm sure there's multiple routes how you could end up as an ornithologist. Hope that helps :)

This channel hits close to home, my dad always had this dream to have a house with some beautiful wild land around it, so my parents bought a house in the middle of a bunch of low effort eucalyptus plantations in Portugal. Over the course of the 15 years I grew up there, I witnessed and helped transform 3 to 4 hectares of basically dead land into a lush native landscape

I also admire your efforts into fixing your land to better accommodate more animals. They way you are improving the pine barren is honestly pretty revolutionary and maybe more national and state parks should copy your example.

So happy to see the post! You are living my dream! I hate seeing monoculture, BC has few forests left most of what was logged was just replaced with giant tree farms. Not sure how well it worked but it made him feel like he was contributing in a positive way.

You mentioned planting vines at the bases of the brush piles. I have a recommendation for a nice vine that I personally like. Celastrus scandens (American bittersweet). Although not the best flowers for birds, they attract some small native insects but hold fruit that is a very important winter food source for wildlife. It is also threatened in many areas due to the invasive bittersweet.

This is absolutely incredible! Love your content and what you’re doing man! I love how you use your own property as viable habitat for wildlife and always look for ways to make it more diverse. Hey, for a future project even if it’s years down the line have you ever thought about incorporating a stream of some sort onto your property? I’m not sure how you would even be able to build something like that as streams are usually formed naturally over a long course of time or if you even have a large enough body of water to fuel it. But I thought perhaps it might just be an idea and future challenge. If it’s impossible to do tho or not a priority that’s perfectly fine. What you’re already doing is amazing and I just wanted to wish you the best of luck on your channel. Keep up the good work!
