Good info Matt. I have always used the interlock grip (leftie) until 7 months ago when most of my shots were going right. I began to play around with my grip and changed to the 10 finger grip. Immediate difference and my shots were going straight and with loft. It wasn't a fluke, I counted 28 shots, all straight. I now use the 10 finger grip all the time with huge improvements.

I'm 37 and have been playing since I was about 12 years old. Started out with the 10 finger grip, around 15 I used the overlap and interlock trying to make it feel good for a couple years and hated it. But I stuck with it because "that's what the good players do". Unfortunately those years were in the middle of my competitive playing days and I think my scores suffered because of the trying to adapt. It was so uncomfortable to me. Eventually I went back to the 10 finger grip and I still use it til this day. I'm not a great player by any means (about 12-14 hdcp), but at least my grip is consistent and comfortable. Once in a while I try to hit some shots with the others and it's so weird. But he's so right it gets me back comfortable quickly. I guess the moral of the story, and my long winded conclusion is do what works. Glad to see someone else does this too. 😎🤣 Any time I tell anyone I use baseball grip they can't believe it! Has anyone reading this played with any decent adult golfer who uses this grip too? Just curious. Hit em well!

I have a super strong grip as a right hand golfer I tend to hook left I’ve been trying to change my grip and it seems very odd. but I’ve never considered starting off with my wedges I will have to try chipping first. that was awesome advice thank you.

Solid advice for the recreational golfer. Hardest thing to do is shed bad habits. If you learned how to play without instruction you more than likely do a few things differently than the current state of the art being taught. Changing your grip is very hard to do unless you are intent on playing competitive golf and possess the motivation that it takes. The relief you feel when you grip it like you always have is indeed relaxing when returning from the extremes of strong and weak. Relaxed is never a bad thing. Good video.

It’s not hard to change if you are not playing competitive golf. Just go to the range and do it a few times .

Winter is hear in the Northeast and I need to take notes on what to practice. Your advice is interesting and I need to explore the possible benefits. I am back to golf since the early 1990’s. My ping putter was shortened too much by the pro in 1991 and I have been unhappy with it since then. But with one more inch added and a thick new grip I have been putting very well. Long putts going in and even more important lag putts getting close. You can’t stand around waiting to fall in love, but when it happens take full advantage. My new driver is better balanced and more forgiving. Being seventy and being able to hit 250-260 yards on my first day with the new driver was special. You’re a straight shooter, be great be good and be lucky

Great video, what has help me is getting the right size grip. I had a normal size grip on my clubs. I was getting blister on my fingers, cause it felt like I had to grip it tighter sounds crazy. So I went to the jumbo size Mcc plus 4. Which made a big difference no more blisters as of right now thanks

I have a decent swing but it is inconsistent. I keep hitting it fat... to big a divot. I was told I needed a stronger grip because my grip looks weak. No one told me that you could also fix this by moving your right hand instead of your left hand for the stronger grip. It's 11:30pm and I just went out on my backyard and did a few swings. Then I hit a ball into the darkness, it's okay I live on the edge of a golf course. I could tell I hit it pretty solid, it's dark... and.. wait for it... there was a slight divot.( I also listened to what you said in the other video about don't hit down, which is what I was told to do) I'm going to try this as soon as there is daylight. I like your style, you don't say this is absolutely how you should do it but you have options to correct the problem. Thanks.

Great video, I'm struggling finding my correct grip so this will definitely help. One question I have is regarding your lead hand thumb. I know you said not to stretch it but do you have it running down the centet of the shaft or is it more to the right or left. Thanks for your hard work!

This made me way more consistent. Your hands are the only things connected directly to the club. I’ve always put my focus on my gloved hand (left hand for me). After watching this video I hit the range and focused on that right hand, putting the club along the second pads of my fingers. I’m hoping the consistency transfers to the course.

Right thumb, keep it over to the left side of the shaft (not on top shaft), take it to top of backswing, and if the thumb on top of shaft creates tensions in the wrist and prevents the wrist from hinging and creating the lag, keep off to the side and less tension and better lag. Amazing breakthrough for me...
