That right shoulder back tip was exactly what my pro gave me earlier this year that turned my game around. I was in a stretch of terrible golf last spring. I was mis-hitting every way possible, fat, thin, hooks, shanks, you name it. At my wit's end, I booked a short evaluation session with my club pro. He watched me hit about 5 balls then pushed my shoulder back and told me to get in that position on my setup. Instant fix. I was stunned. I was hitting it further with less effort and more accuracy. I went on to play the best golf of my life for the next several weeks until other things crept in (its golf after all, right?). But I haven't gone back to the horrors I was experiencing before. Great tip!

Do you feel like it's an effort to make that move though? I have a slight scoliosis and when i move that back i hit good shots, but, it feels weird and i always end up forgetting to do it.

@@jonny1872 It certainly felt weird at first, but I had time this summer to practice a lot so I got used to it. Now, every now and then I catch myself out of position but its an easy fix.

I had the problem of hands’ position forward but never understood why this is a problem. When I had bad shots, the most of them are thin. It totally makes sense now. Matt, thank you!

Thanks for the video. From a previous video your posted, I started putting my hands in the middle as opposed to having them a little forward at address. This made a world of difference in my impact with the ball. When I did this, the shoulders and the hips seemed to be easier to line up properly. I really appreciate your videos, they are really helpful!!!

This time around I learned about the left arm position, right shoulder a bit close and up on the setup, I will use my V1 to see what I have and next I will be looking for a golf set up like you have - big screen etc... thank you for what you do (subscribed, bell and thumbs up); thank you again

Top notch tips! Thanks. Excessive forward shaft lean at address has hurt my swing. I now realize that is why I spin my shoulders and hips open early on some shots; with hands too forward there’s nowhere to go.

Great video. Can you do a video on how the club face looks at impact? I really struggle with striking the ball first. Instructors always seem to say put your weight forward or focus on your follow thru or something like that. I don't understand how the clubface is supposed to strike the ball and continue downwards into the ground. I hope this makes some sense. Thanks.

Downward angle of attack with the club, swinging down into the ball while swinging through it. Easy to know, hard to do.

Nice job MSG! Hey buddy, when you draw the line of your swing plane from the "down the line" view, draw it from the ball through your right elbow and not the right hip...because it is the correct swing plane line. You will be above it on your backswing and will drop below it on your down swing. Happy New Year!

For me it's normally a case of not bending correctly and enough at the hips to allow my upper body to easily clear my lower body. My arms get impeded if I try to make a full swing past 1:30 on the clock normally bringing the club in on the back swing and then kicking it out on the down swing resulting in heel shots and shanks. To ensure a more consistent swing plane I really kick my ass back at setup to the point I feel all my weight at the heels and then I gradually bend my knees till the weight shifts to the arches of the feet. Second point is that all clubs have some offset between the shaft line and club face direction which means some forward shaft lean is needed to have the club face pointing at the target line while the shoulders and legs run parallel to it as in the railroad example. Not that much to have a forward press swing fault issue though. But I don't have upper body tilt which most coaches insist is beneficial so that could account for the appearance that forward shaft lean is needed to have a correct target line acquired. Also the head comes into play with a full swing. If its dipping slightly it impedes the arms from lifting and the shoulders from turning properly. I try to have it slightly above level to the point I see slightly above the ball. None of this is really an issue with 2/3rd to 3/4 shots. It's when I try to reach 2 to 3 o clock with maximum body rotation that all these issues creep up. Also ensuring that a pressure shit in the feet continues to happen throughout the swing, as well as the left knee accumulating the torque to discourage lateral movement away from the ball. Back a few decades ago when I bought the medicus 5 iron the key was the keeping the club traveling along the same plane from start to finish. Today instructors say the back swing isn't critical and that when you tuck your right elbow in and flatten your wrist it drops the club into the slot so you don't have to worry about it. But I do think it causes aim inconsistency, normally pushed draws.

Hey Matt I just started playing this year and just started lessons this winter. We just started working on the second point you made in your video. About having your hands in front of the face at impact. I get the concept that it helps allow you to hit down on the ball but the more I think about I’m confusing my self because I feel like it is delofting the club or am I over thinking it. In my mind if I’m hitting a 7iron and hit the ball with the hands before club like you explain I feel like it turns the club into a 6iron. If you could do a video explaining that or another way of explaining that i would greatly appreciate it. Love your videos and I’ve learned a lot. Thanks again.

Great video! The shoulder tilt is something I don’t do, the alignment and club centered with left arm slightly on top, I have always done. I will try the shoulder tilt, I’ve been playing golf for over 60 years and was always told to keep my shoulders level through the swing. Do you tilt more on your driver that your other clubs?

Your left shoulder returns to the setup position at impact. I would like to hear about the importance of the steady head and left shoulder. What about de lofting the club head with shaft lean forward. Why and how does your hands get ahead of ball at impact? Thanks

You hit three nails on the head with me, I don't know how many hours of videos I've watched over the last year trying to figure out my irons, but here's hoping that this is the last one. I'll let ya know, I'm going to put my new practice net and mats to work today. Thank you for all you do. Happy New year EDIT: I can already notice a big difference, at least with how straight they seem to be going. I only hit into my net so I don't know how far they are going. I did hit one off a tee into the neighbors pasture. It didn't go far but it went way straighter...off to the driving range tomorrow

G, Could you please revise this video & add proper spine angle at set-up. I golf with 10 guys twice a week for the past 3 years & they are always hitting it fat or hooking because of the distance from the butt of the club to their fly is longer than the width of their fist+. I have scars on my tongue from biting it. One guy asked, but he reverted back. I learned from Byron Nelson's WINNING GOLF, that you cannot stand too close to the ball. Means everything that can go wrong happens when you stand too far away.

Believe it or not, this might be the most important post you'll read Everyone of us has broken God's moral law, the Ten Commandments. We have all lied, stolen, hated and lusted. And James 2:10 states that breaking one of the Commandments makes us guilty of breaking them all. Problem is, we can never outweigh our sins through good works because the Creator is perfect in Holiness, meaning His standard is far above ours. And He is also perfect in Justice, meaning not a single sin will go unpunished. And the punishment of sin is being cast into hell, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth with no end. Ever. Fortunately, God is also perfect in love, so 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ left His throne in Heaven and came to this earth as a man. He lived a perfect, sinless life and He so loved us, that He took the punishment of our sin, when He suffered horribly on the cross. Isaiah 53 tells us that his face was marred beyond recognition and that he suffered more than any man. But right before His death, Jesus said "It is finished" meaning the the debt for our sins was paid in full. But on the 3rd day, Jesus conquered death and He was resurrected. So that means now, we can go free from the wrath of God's judgment not by earning it, but rather as a free gift of grace, if you accept Jesus. But, a gift can either accepted or rejected. So if you want to accept the free gift or forgiveness, of grace, and of salvation, this is what you should do: Humbly admit to God that you have sinned against Him, and through gratitude in the sacrifice of His Son, repent (turn away) from your old sinful ways. Then, confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, your Savior. Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and was resurrected 3 days later. Roman's 10:9 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 says that if you do this you are saved. I'm not telling you to get religious, because Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with God. Religion says DO, but Jesus Christ says DONE! Ephesians 2:8-9 says For it is by grace we are saved through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast. And the moment you do this, God will grant you a new heart, which does not take pleasure in sin and He will give you eternal life. Nothing on this earth even close to compares to what awaits believers. What you do with this information will determine where you will be for Eternity; meaning accepting Christ is the single most important decision you'll EVER make. And all of us here, believer or atheist, know that this is very true. Jesus Christ wants YOU to come to Him this very moment; don't even think about sleeping until you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, because your tomorrow isn't guaranteed. You could die at any moment. Hebrews 9: 27 "It is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the Judgment." All praise and honor to Jesus Christ, King of kings, Lord of lords.
