00:00 Introduction
Hair loss is very normal for most men and it happens to us as we age. Frankly, I don't know of any man including me who is happy to lose their hair. So the big question is how do you treat or even reverse hair loss?
I'm not a medical doctor and everything I say here is based on my experience and my opinions. So the first place to start when you notice some hair loss is your doctor. Talk to them to figure out if anything is wrong so you can get to the real bottom of it. So of course the big question is how can you treat hair loss or possibly even reverse it?
HAIR LOSS MYTHS: DEBUNKED
02:41 Myth #1: Grooming & Hat-wearing Contributes to Hair Loss
Some people argue that hair loss has something to do with the type of hat you wear or the grooming you do but that is simply not the case. Brushing your hair or wearing a baseball hat are totally fine and will have no
impact.
03:17 Myth #2: Hair Vitamins are Effective
The truth is there's no such thing as a hair vitamin unless the cause of your hair loss was a nutritional deficiency.
03:54 Myth #3: Other Causes (Stress, Sunlight, etc.)
Hair loss also isn't caused by any stress, a lack of circulation, or the sun shining on your head.
04:04 Myth #4: More Testosterone Means Hair Loss
Guys who go bald have more testosterone and the increased testosterone has something to do with the lack of hair in your head, not true! Studies have shown that men who are bald have similar testosterone levels to men who are not bald.
04:22 Hair Loss Truth: Smoking Contributes To Baldness
Smoking makes your baldness more severe and it's just something to keep in mind next time you smoke that cigarette.
BEST HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS
04:48 1. Finasteride
Finasteride is a prescription drug also known under the brand name Propecia. It has been on the market since 1997 and you just take it orally in form of a pill every day. It treats hair loss on your crown and the middle part of your scalp but not on other parts of your body. It blocks your DHT hormones by about 70% thus slowing down the shrinkage and shortening of your hair and therefore, you keep your hair for longer. Dutasteride also blocks DHT even though it's more effective in the sense that it can block up to 90% of DHT versus Finasteride only blocks up to about 70% of the DHT hormone. So obviously, it's more effective but it's not FDA approved in the US for hair loss treatment.
07:18 2. Minoxidil / Rogaine
It's an over-the-counter medication and FDA approved in the US for hair loss treatment. Interestingly, it's supposed to be used around the crown of your scalp only and nowhere else. It's basically a foam that you have to apply to your crown twice a day in order to be effective. In my book, that's a serious commitment.
08:26 3. Hair transplantation
This is not a drug but it works actually by moving hair follicles from areas where you have a lot of hair to areas where you don't have a lot of hair. Yes, it sounds like a lot of work and it is because every single follicle from the back or from the side of your scalp has to be relocated. Because of that, it takes a lot of time, is therefore very costly, and can also cause a lot pain.
09:49 4. Laser therapy
It's also known as low light therapy or cold laser therapy and it works in the way that photons are irradiated onto your scalp thus helping to increase the circulation on your scalp. The idea is that the photons stimulate the circulation in your scalp and therefore, help your hair growth.
10:53 5. Scalp micropigmentation
Now, this really doesn't treat the hair loss, it is more of a cosmetic procedure, think of it you are tattooing little dots onto your head so it looks like you have a buzz cut that was intentional and not forced because you're going bald. It cost anywhere between $1000-$4000 depending on how many hair dots have to be tattooed onto your scalp.

Continued stress over time will most definitely have an impact on your hair. I have known numerous people including myself that started loosing hair at an early age due to stress. Whenever stress conditions got better, our hair would be fine. Stress is a biggie guys, don't let this guy tell you different.
@chrisr4815
@chrisr4815 4 жыл бұрын
@Charthers Yes it did. It was night and day difference. I was working a very stressful job that paid well. I was constantly seeing hair in my hands in the shower. I finally left that company for a job that wasn't stressful in the least bit. It was a huge cut in pay but very worth it. Within six months my hair was back to normal. I was 27 at the time. I'm now almost 36 and my hair stills looks great. Stress messes with your immune system. When your immune system is whacked out, it can do funky stuff to your body.

My stress level has increased a lot in the last few years but immensely about a year and a half ago. I switched barbers for a year around that time and when I went back, the guy remarked about how different my hair was. He too said it was stress that probably did it. I then looked and realized how much hair I had lost in just a year.

@@chrisr4815 im at a point right now where I'm constantly seeing a decent amount of hairs on my hands when I'm done lathering shampoo. When you noticed your hair recovering did you see alot less hair on your hands? Honestly this combined with the fact that I can see my scalp more clearly in certain areas through my hair after a shower is what has me very concerned rn.

I use Alpecin caffeine shampoo now. Sometimes I use the hair tonic as well. It gives me good results. I used to also notice good results with stinging nettle root (a tocopherol) and Biotene brand shampoo. That shampoo had biotin among other things, and I believe it was silicone free. The also sell a conditioner and hair tonic you’re supposed to use altogether. I think it was $17 on Amazon. By the way vitamin e is a tocopherol. It helps reduce aromatization of testosterone which I believe has an effect on this. I take that now and it is overall good for overweight men to take. Also ,owners inflammation.

I did not anticipate coming here at the age of 19. My hair is one key asset to my confidence and I woke up a few days ago and realised that my Mum has been right! I normally do a side parting and I flick up the fringe, and I usually go to the left. I have since noticed that the right side of my hairline has gone back several inches. I am going to be keeping a close eye on it. But it's good to know there are treatments out there! Huge thanks from the UK

Interesting video. When I was in my 20s through my 40s, I often sported shoulder length hair. As I reached my 50s, I noticed that it was getting finer, and finer as it grayed. It is very thin on top of my head nowadays. I'm in my 60s. I guess I'll never have long hair again. After watching this video, I think I'll pass on the heroic as well as the pharmaceutical measures, and live with baby fine silver hair. Thanks for posting this.

MInoxidil doesn't have to be used twice a day, you can do it once a day and get the same results; this is pretty well known. Minoxidil can also be applied to more than the crown; the manufacturers have to state that it is only for crown balding because the initial FDA trials were for that purpose however we now know it'll help with hairs loss in all parts. People even use Minoxidil to stimulate beard growth,.

I'm 23 and recently went through the scalp micropigmentation procedure (hair tattooing) that Sven outlines here. I began losing my hair at 17 so it was a huge thing for me. if you're thinking about SMP i would definitely reccomend it, i've received nothing but compliments, and no one has been able to tell that it's a tattoo - it's extremely realistic. Just make sure you research where you're getting it done, and DO NOT go to a regular tattooist, there are specialists in SMP that you need to go to

I have thinning hair and receeding hairline, although not yet so bad that it's super obvious. I feel similarly as you about Finasteride and Minoxidil, so I'm not using anything. However, I've heard there's some research going on about developing a pill form of Minoxidil, and if that gets available (outside of medical trials/research purposes) while I still have some hair left to save, I think I'd be willing to give that a try. Otherwise, I'll just rock my locks for as long as I have them.

I always hear online that finasteride has horrible side effects. Yet my doctors haven't ever seen a case and I know of 8 guys IRL who use the drug. All of them stopped their hairloss and haven't suffered terrible sides. I jumped on as soon as I saw temple recession with the crown going too. That was seven years ago and now I basically have a full head of hair (one small area in the front didn't regrow and nobody has ever noticed it). They say it can cause depression and stuff like that but I can tell you right now I was more depressed with my hair falling out then I was seeing the loss stop and the hair come back. The truth is that finasteride is widely taken and most of us aren't sitting online talking about it which is why it SEEMS like the anecdotal evidence is overwhelmingly that it causes all sorts of issues. Actually the rest of us are just living out life and no longer worried about it. So do your research but don't read too much...

I started receding badly in my late teens but it stopped at Jude Law Levels in my mid 20's, at first, I did consider treatment, like the tattoo procedure to cover about an inch of receding. As I approached my 30's, now in my 40's. You just get to the point where I simply don't care anymore and you get used to it, you realise that it's not actually that bad with certain hair styles, like a side parting, it just looks really bad if I brush it back. I have also tried the Jason Statham look, it just wasn't for me, plus I'm not that far gone yet. When it does get to the point where no hairstyles in the world can hide it, I will just shave it off. I used to take the mick out of men with comb overs as a child, I'm not going to be ammo for the next generation.

Minoxidil applied once a day or every other day (you do not literally have to follow what is written, the effect of the medication will last for 24hrs/you will find more information supporting this elsewhere) and yes once stopped it will resume for those with hereditary balding, everyone else should be taking DHT blockers via applications or supplements + Finasteride for maximum results (5% have had negative results/ Most of us can live with that) remember nothing ventured nothing gained. Good luck

about the "hair vitamin" thing, a friend of mine had a grandpa who was balding and had an eye injury, his wife was an herbalist and she tried to make something for him to take to help his eye heal. While his eye did NOT heal, somehow at the exact same time he started taking whatever herbal concoction she had made for him, his hair started to grow back. He stopped taking it for a while and his hair started thinning again pretty noticeably until he started taking it again. No idea what exactly it was he took but whatever it was obviously didn't work for intended purpose but worked for this instead. No idea if it would work for anyone else but I can try to contact that friend again just in case.
