100% agreement! Blue Train & A Kind Of Blue were my first two jazz LP's and they are both still Top 5 jazz albums for me.

I also highly recommend 'Coltrane's Sound' (1964) if you haven't heard it in full yet. Though it consists of tracks left out of 'My Favourite Things', I find myself listening more to it than the latter..

Although it was no surprise, I loved your top 5. I think you touched on very good points... my top 5, for example, would be: My Favorite Things (1961) Giant Steps (1960) A Love Supreme (1965) Blue Train (1958) Ballads (1963)

Thank you! I also love your Top 5! I recently bought a 2nd US pressing of My Favorite Things and truly start to revalue that album.

Great choices. Crescent is right near the top for me, as is "First Meditations" (early version of "Meditations" but I like it better).

Great choices indeed ! SOULTRANE was reissued, about 1968-72, with different cover, which says Stereo, but : ( here is a comment from discogs: It may say stereo on the cover, but this album is pure, glorious MONO, with sound that is full-bodied, relaxed, Tubey Magical and tonally correct . Here is the palpable jazz energy, the life of the music, that’s sure to be missing from whatever dead-as-a-doornail Heavy Vinyl pressing is being stamped out these days.) I have such a copy, and it really sounds fantastic.

A Thorens TD160 with a Orthofon Blue for stereo and a White for mono. Receiver is a Marantz 2217 with DynAudio BM6A MK1 speakers.

Honestly, Coltrane Live at Birdland and Live at the Village Vanguard dominates your list, which is interesting, but your list doesnt begin to capture the classic Coltrane quartet at its peak, IMO.

Don't really disagree with your selections, EXCEPT how could you not include "My Favorite Things" It's what put John Coltrane over the top with jazz and non-jazz listeners....Peace
