I'm majoring in Business Administration but it's not general we have to choose specialization in last year I will choose Banking and Finance. Business is the best pre-law major because we can go in tax law, corporate/business law in future and the biggest thing is we already study corporate/business and tax law during our business degree.

If someone was really interested in divorce law can they just become a divorce lawyer or do they have to study everything that goes into family law???
@LawyerYouKnow4 жыл бұрын
Law school does not require you to decide on a specialty. You can take all different kinds of classes as electives and choose your specialty after you graduate and can change specialties whenever you’d like. Law school provides more of a general knowledge of the law and teaches you how to think and write like a lawyer.

I'm a divorce lawyer. Every lawyer I know studied something different in undergrad. Once thing I have noticed, however, is that there are a number of divorce lawyers who...after being divorce lawyers for several years...eventually start studying social work / family therapy. I haven't gone to school for it, but I've really boned up on it (my undergrad major was biology).

How relevant is an AS degree in Law School applications? I'm currently on track for an Associates in CJ, and am planning for a BS in Chem. After obtaining my BS will schools/employers look at my CJ degree? I'm more interested in the Forensic side of law and don't want a future filled with patent cases.
@LawyerYouKnow4 жыл бұрын
They will look at your GPA, but they won’t necessarily focus on the area you studied for your AS. It won’t hold a lot of weight, but your GPA will so keep it up! Thanks for the question, feel free to reach out any time.

Under other, would forensic investigation general or forensic accounting be useful? I have also acquired experience in the following branch of the law through self teaching & wonder if they will be of any assistance in enrolling for an undergraduate law degree? These are: Employment law Law in Discrimination Contract law Law of Negligence (injury) Social Security Benefit (unemployed) Human Right law Criminal Law

Hello Sir , I am passionate about becoming an immigration lawyer . I am a military member looking into a major in English . Although this is a major you do not recommend, this is something I like which I would say personally is my “other” . My question for you is have you seen English majors succeed in law school ? And lastly , is English a common major for lawyers ? What’s a common major for immigration lawyers specifically ?
@LawyerYouKnow4 жыл бұрын
Alexis, thanks for the question! I think that if you love English, it is a great major for any grad/post grad school. However, if I was going to recommend a specific major for someone looking into immigration law, I would advise Political Science or Criminal Justice. These majors will open your eyes to different aspects than an English major. Yes, I have seen many law students succeed as English majors and I'm sure many more to come!

What do I major in to become a family lawyer?
@LawyerYouKnow3 жыл бұрын
Law school majors are an interesting subject. The major takeaway from this video can be summed up in one statement - it doesn’t matter what your major is, as long as you crush it. What I mean when I say I don’t “recommend” a specific major is that I don’t want anyone to force themselves to take a certain path thinking it is the secret sauce to succeed in law school. Picking a major you are interested in is a great idea because you will have a better chance at a higher GPA which is your best bet to succeed in law school acceptance. Good luck to you and if you have any more questions don’t hesitate to reach out.

Hi there i'm someone who's planning to move to the US from Scotland once I get my graduate from University here (because University is free here) and I was wondering would my degree still be valid over in the US?
@LawyerYouKnow3 жыл бұрын
If you’re asking from a law school perspective, it would depend on the law school, you can call a school and ask, they should know what transfers.

Hi, thanks for the information! I was wondering if you recommend getting any minors and not just a major? After you said business was good major for getting into law school It was perfect for me because Im studying business currently and was just going to get that but recently I decided that I should become a judge someday and I found out in another video of yours that to even be considered a judge you have to be a lawyer first. I know I would get a good gpa studying business because I already have been but when you said not political science because most people have trouble getting a good gpa with that I was thinking if i should get a minor in political science or something because I feel like I would need help thinking like a lawyer, like you said what a PS degree helps with. Would you recommend that?
@LawyerYouKnow3 жыл бұрын
Minors don’t hold a lot of weight as soon as you graduate. Focus on a great gpa in your major and you’ll benefit from that.
@nycto163 жыл бұрын
With business degree you also think like a lawyer, Business and Corporate law is part of business degree.

Hi there! I’ve been doing a ton of research on law and law school some thing I have always wanted to do but my life went in a different direction but I feel like there’s never too late of a time for change or to pursue what you want which is now what I’m trying to do. My question would be to put it bluntly where do I start?.. I know that I have to attend undergraduate pre-law school but is it as simple as just applying to a school or a program because I don’t know if I have the grades from high school to get in what I have to do prerequisites first? I know that’s kind of a lot of questions and I’m sorry but my mind is just kind of everywhere and I’m really determined on doing this but at the same time I really just don’t know where to start and I’ve done a lot of research and I know one of the first steps would be undergraduate pre-law
@LawyerYouKnow3 жыл бұрын
Where do you start? Get an undergraduate degree in a subject you enjoy. Keep your grades as high as possible. Online college or junior college then university work as well. Just make sure wherever you go is accredited. You don’t have to finish in four years if you’re working you can take your time. At some point before graduating, sign up for, prep fully, and take the LSAT. Take it multiple times if need be to get the score you need to get into the law school of your choice. Once you get the best LSAT score and have an idea of what your gpa is, you can find a law school with a median lsat and gpa that fits your numbers and go for it. There are a ton of factors, we have done a lot of videos in these subjects. If this didn’t answer your question or you have more, let me know.
