I'd move 3, 4, 5 to 1, 2, and 3 position, the others are behind that but yeah biggest help @Garage Noise gave me was dialing in the fluid knob, I got runs bad at first not knowing this to where I had PTSD spraying scared of a run and getting bad dry spray. These days I get a good fluid/pressure setting and up my speed with almost like 50% over passes for the first coat and then move to 75% on the following coats for coverage once it's tacky, ESPECIALLY for clear coat!

Useful video, thanks! Something important to have while prepping the surfaces and while painting is Light!It's more difficult to paint properly without seeing perfectly what we're doing and how we're spraying the paint on to the panels.

Yep also cold weather makes clearcoat viscosity thicker in the clear and activator,good to keep clear coat and activator in a warm room until ready to use.

Hi Chris, superb video right here with all the info the hobby/diy painter could ever need, I think you got the top 5 mistakes spot on as I'm sure I had all of them when I first started painting which was around 5 years ago but these days I'm fairly happy with how my paint jobs come out, my filler work could be better but since watching your videos I'm improving👌 Thanks for doing this for us brother I'm sure we all appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos👏🙏👍John UK

Lots of great info. But when its cold, what does 'take the proper precautions' mean? And humidity - what is it nubes need to look out for?
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 11 күн бұрын
With humidity applying paint too heavy can cause blushing which can be corrected starting with a light coat. If you do get blushing just let it dry a bit longer and apply a light coat.when it's cold you need to watch out for runs in clear and that start with applying a tack coat and allowing proper flash times.

As a DIYer I really like spraying the FC740. Very user friendly and $130 on Amazon for a gallon. I have sprayed it in 46 degree temps with a medium and fast harder and still worked really well with no fish eyes. Granted I had no patience and didn’t allow a long flash time and ran it a couple times but other than that worked great. Curious though, what are your thoughts on cutting the clear vs others? It seemed very hard and took forever to cut.

Great job Chris. And nice color. What speed of reducer did you used in the base for this cold conditions you mentioned here in your garage? And what speed of hardener for the clear ?🙂
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 6 күн бұрын
On this I used slow for base and clear. If it's in single digit temps outside I'll typically switch to medium cause it harder to heat up the shop.

Looks great under the sunlight clean and shiny I doubt if you will use razor for the rainy clear I hope you mention why it did happen Overall Great final results Also since you gonna buff the car we want cheaper polish compounds the ceram x expensive and not really for diyres

Hi Chris, The SUV came out just fantastic! One of your best playlists and will watch again. I have one question. At 2:47-3:00 minute point while you were painting base on the right front fender I noticed a blotch on the hood. At first I thought it was a reflection but at 4:13 while you were tacking I briefly saw it again. Did not see it after the clear coat went on. Perhaps it was nothing. Thanks!!

What is your recommendation for minimal temp to spray in a garage? 65 f ? Or even 70 f?
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 6 күн бұрын
I've painted in as low as 30° but I like it at least to be 45° if it's colder it gets tricky.

Out in the Wild West of Oklahoma do any of your bodyshops use waterborne basecoat. Here in Maricopa County AZ, and especially in Southern California, almost everybody uses waterborne basecoat to meet South Coast Air Management District regulations with respect to VOC's. Another thing I've noticed is that you use 4:1 clears whereas out here 2:1 clears are virtually universal as the paint manufacturers demand it in order to guarantee their systems.
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 12 күн бұрын
The shops I know don't use waterborne. I'm sure the corporate shops do, but I'm not sure. I don't know if paint manufacturers require it, but I've used 2:1 euro clear it's fine . Curing time is my issue with it, and 4:1 flows out a bit better for me , but of course, I'm more familiar with it.

Great video, so in hot weather its recommended to use slow activators, so in cold can you use fast activators/reducers or stick to normal set time? Is fast only used when doing a small spot panel?
@GarageNoise
@GarageNoise 12 күн бұрын
Yeah, I really don't ever use fast. If I'm doing a spot panel, you know just a couple panels, I'll use medium activator. Most of the time I'm using slow. In cold temperatures I only use medium. I don really use fast. I find it flows out a lot better if I use a medium.
@MarkAnthony-rb7fp

@GarageNoise good to know, my hunch was also that fast would not be good but getting feedback on it is much appreciated

In hot weather you have to use slow activators and thinners.When it's cold a medium activator has to be used.

Two more questions. Since you painted an entire vehicle that is approximately 16 feet long how much paint did you use for the project? The base coat was applied using the Inokraft drizzle d1 LVLP paint gun and the clear coat using the Sagola. I assume the Sagola is a HVLP spray gun. Thanks!

I bought a gallon for this project because I'm eventually painting the jambs as well. I have a little over a quart left. It's not the hlvp cap. It's the dvr clear pro with the 1.25 tip

That was off the gun. I will have to denib the dust and correct a coupe runs but haven't had a chance yet. Cooler temp really help it flow out tho.

@GarageNoise I'm not going to lie or surgar coat it in doing a 67 camaro in the ultra BC8 and it was over $200 a quart but it's so nice it covers in first coat the finish looks like a egg shelll and so far I have not had to nib it out or deal with fisheyes I've been clearcoat every thing so far with CC200 but outside of the car I'll be clearing with CC950 appearance clear

Another issue is improper venting. You leave that overspray hang over the vehicle your looking for dry spot issues.
