Currently watching Smallville Season 4. I will be on Season 5 starting tomorrow. One of the interesting things about the show is that it brings back some of Superman's past. Christopher Reeve, Margot Kiddler, Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher all appear in the show. The woman who plays Martha, I believe was Lana in Superman lll.

I love Clark's muttering at the end of the picnic scene after being asked if he could get Superman's autograph: "If I had a nickel for every time..." Also lots of fun: the moments when Lorelai's mask of ditziness slips and it's clear she's smarter than her employer. The Lana Lang Indulgence bugged me as a kid, because kid superhero morality is unforgiving. There is only Lois -- and just look at the trouble that resulted! Cool trivia about photo booth kid. I think the Superman junkyard fight makes the whole movie. It's old-school comic-book silly, but also really creative, like what two kids might act out for such a hypothetical. And the characterization of Sick Of Working Superman is so relatable :) But my favorite moment is: 0.57% unknown. The job sucks, the deadline is arbitrary, management doesn't want to hear about any problems, it's never going to work anyway... so you fake it.

I actually liked the fire chief saying "Oh, it's you. Forget the helmet!" because it shows that he's only got time for the crisis at hand & it shows how much a fixture Superman has become in the world. Superman wouldn't want him gawking at him in wonder anyway. They had a big problem to solve. This scene also shows Superman's character in that he offered assistance & pretty much let the chief run point. He only took action when he was absolutely needed. He also kept the chief informed about the east wing.

I would say Reeve was at his best as Clark in part III, still a nerd, but wasn't so clumsy. Chris has made a comment during the making of that Clark seemed to 'mess the door' in part I and II, this time he knows where the door is. I really liked his analogy here. Unfortunately, he reverted back to that, but worse for part IV! My top 5 moments from Superman III: 1: During the beginning sequence after Clark blows out the mechanical Penguin, pays for a copy of The Daily Planet from a vending machine, which rips in half, the music and Reeve's reaction just makes me laugh in that moment. 2: The whole chemical plant sequence and frozen lake (for the latter part, how Supes could logistically lift and carry that frozen section without breaking up is beyond me! 🤣) 3: Lana & Clark reuniting as the school dance, following by the scene where they're both talking, Clark start to lighting play 'Earth Angel' on the piano, and Lana say _"I tell myself, yep, that's the one that got away..."_ 4: The conversation Gus has with 'Ross the Boss' as he attempt to explain the Kryptonite didn't kill the Man of Steel. Ross Webster reaction: _"He didn't die. I asked you to kill Superman, and you're telling me you couldn't even do that one simple thing..."_ at this point, the concept of the mic drop was born, just with a telephone, and has yet to be topped! Vaughn's expression as he does so, looking straight ahead, no emotion was TOO DAMN FUNNY! 4: Evil Superman at the bar, continuing into the junkyard scene. The music, the utter disdain he has for himself in the moment as he heat visions the mirror, and the _"It's me, Ricky. Ricky from Smallville..."_ When Supes runs and flies off, then landing down in the junkyard, letting out that yell, falling to his knees, covering his eyes was a great performance from Reeve, and a somewhat wasted one too! The pressure and responsibility of being a hero, eh! Honourable mentions: Super sneeze at the bowling alley. Grapefruit in the wife's face. After Gus embezzles the money, turns up to work the next day in a Ferrari (WHY!!!!)

When I was a kid the local theater was a 2 plex. On one side Superman III was showing on the other was Return Of The Jedi. I love Star Wars and Superman but *I* was the one who insisted to my parents we see Superman III. It was the first time I remember ever being disappointed with a movie. I had to actually process that. It's like my little kid brain couldn't fathom that a Superman movie could be bad. Went back the next week saw ROTJ and it remains my favorite Star Wars movie to this day. In retrospect part of it was that I really wanted Brainiac and thought the Super Powers robot version would look so cool in a movie. The other was even as a kid the jokey tone didn't feel right at all and the stuff with Clark moaning in pain in the car crusher just creeped me out. I'd had so much fun watching the first 2 films this was just total WTF to me. Nowadays I can appreciate the chemistry between Chris and Annette and some of the flying stuff is really nice. Still wonder why they didn't just go with Gus's Kryptonite turning out as red.

Appropriate to say "funny moments" considering Superman III - and a chunk of the Superman II theatrical version - were directed by Richard Lester, who was more of a comedy director. As far as the junkyard scene is concerned, I see the fake Kryptonite Gus created as an allegory for Red Kryptonite, as it changed Soperman's personality - its most common effect from the comics. And I see the fight itself as an allegory for Superman's true personality fighting back against the infected one, ultimately winning. Interesting note: this is not the movie that introduced me to the song "Earth Angel", which is a very appropriate song title when dealing with Superman (it's played at the school reunion when Clark and Lana dance). Guess which movie DID introduce me to that song 🤣
