Jeff, I live near keuka Lake a finger Lake in Upstate N.Y.. After years of prospecting I've found most of the Gold is in the South end of the lakes, and in the creeks that run from east to west through the glacial gravels that were deposited. The greatest amount of gold is found on the east side of the lakes.. Have found great gold and up to 1/4 " nuggets on the east side of Keuka.. Tremendous amounts in the bed rock cracks, and a 3" suction dredge does great for those cracks

Thanks for this one! For a guy that lives in northern PA, this gives a spark of hope that i could find a little gold closer to home. I love to pan for gold but feel like theres no point unless im travelling west (many miles). Im north enough here that we still had some glacial melt. It would be a helluva thrill just to find a few specks right at home! Cheers, and thanks for all the great videos.

Im located just off i-90 and 787. I know of a few spots that I always had a feeling, but never expected the Hudson and tributaries would! I might be a little too far south, but the bedrock has a bunch of different pressure waves in it. A few small feeder streams get deposits of sand bars id like to pan for fine material. You have sparked positive possibilities!! Stay tuned

How’s it going Jeff? I live in upstate NY , I actually just purchased property in Lexington, N.Y., the scoharie creek is right across the street from my property. I’ve been metal detecting for several years now and absolutely love it. I like to preferably hunt older private property that hopefully hasn’t been detected before and has some history and age to it. Obviously you can’t always have perfect places but the Catskill mountains are full of history and anyone who truly loves the hobby knows your unlikely to strike it rich and be able to retire or live some lavish lifestyle, most who detect do it for the love of getting out in nature and the thrill of finding something that hasn’t been touched in sometimes hundreds of years. Most things have a story to tell, either about the item or the area it’s found or all of those together. I just came across your channel and it caught my interest, you seem pretty knowledgeable. I just subscribed and look forward to checking out some of your other videos and hope to learn some good tips. I’ve always wondered if there was gold in the countless streams and creeks and the Hudson River is really close to where I live although never considered looking for gold there, I believe it would be a daunting task and I’m not sure of the laws but know you aren’t supposed to metal detect within so many feet of the river besides there are countless crystal clear streams and creeks to look in and I’m well aware of how this area was formed and know there must be glacial deposits of gold throughout N.Y., and my guess is there are places that may have decent amounts of gold. Throughout my years of growing up in NY I’ve fished since I could walk and have spent a lot of time in various streams and creeks and remember seeing a lot of the signs they gold may be present. Lots of quartz and other heavy sediments. I live near the old Catskill Game Farm now. Do you know of any good places either near wear I am now or where I’ll be moving? And to begin doing this should I make my own portable sluse box ? Do you have any ideas or things you know of that you could suggest and that have worked? And how much gold can you find in a day? I know for the most part your probably digging crevices, have you found anything sizable and what’s the most you’ve found in a day? With gold prices at an almost record high even small amounts add up fast. Thanks for sharing your information and I look forward to checking out more of your channel and look forward to hopefully hear from you.

Gold Occurrences in New York State Although gold is known to occur in New York State a law dating back to the birth of the United States in 1776 dictates that any gold found in the state will remain the property of the State of New York. The effect of this law that is still on the books has acted as a damper on any efforts to find gold. Even if you were to find gold in your own backyard if you read the fine print on your deed you will find that gold does not belong to you but to the state. Efforts are now being made to change that law to date it is still in effect. Not only gold is affected by this law, but so is silver. Plainly the law says all gold and silver deposits found in New York will remain the property of the state. This law has been amended several times over the years allowing the finder of a gold deposit a period of several years to work his claim. Is this true???

I'm confused... I belong to a rock and mineral club. A fellow member is into gold panning. I live near a river in NY. He told me not to pan for gold it's illegal. He sent me this: New York is certainly not the place to prospect if you would like to get rich. There is gold in New York, but according to state law, all gold and silver found in the state is the property of the state. Even claim holders and landowners are not entitled to keep any precious metals that they find. ( He pans for gold in other states)

I'll stick with the Bohemia gold district out here on the west coast. When you do look for gold you can find it almost in any crack or under almost any rocks in the streams. You can also find gold flakes in the moss that grows on the rocks, especially where there is some runoff. One trip, I rinsed some moss out and ended up with about 200mg of flakes that I recovered from the dirt that washed out of the moss. Once done washing the moss out, replace it where you peeled it from, if at all possible. If I can get back on my feet, I am going to give it a try after it starts raining again. It is fun and when I found gold in the past, I kind of got a little excited about or at least a big thrill. But, you have to be careful, there are a lot of active mining claims and the owners do not take it to kindly if you trespass even if it is by accident. Had one miner get really bent out of shape when I stopped to do some fishing in a nice eddy below some big boulders. Oh well, have fun, enjoy your videos.

Jeff, I live in Oswego, NY whick is northwest of Syracuse on Lake Ontario, right near where the Oswego River dumps into the lake. I have been prospecting & panning various locations on both the river up to the lake for a few years now with minimal luck. 99.9% of the gold I have found is very small and not very much of it either. I try to stick to the exposed bedrock along the river, especially in the 2 or 3 mile stretch between Fulton and Minetto Bridge which is where I have found most of what I have found. Are you aware of any other areas around here that may 'pan's out? One thing I do find alot of and what I mean alot of is this fine shiny black .material that looks like finly crushed up kitchen strainer size coal. I am almost 100% sure that it is not coal, because under a 20x powered computer microscope, the grains are almost smooth round 'balls'. It is heavy but isn't magnetic, and acts like gold in my pan, collecting like gold does along the bottom of the front riffle. I average about 1/4 - 1/2 of a teaspoon of this in almost every pan. The pieces are like I said, very small. Any idea of what it might be? This coming spring/summer, I plan on concentrating my prospecting activities around the small islands on the river in Fulton, as I have heard stories about there being a good amount of gold there. These islands are only accessible with a small boat and I recently picked up a 14' aluminum john boat in December. Are there any other areas you might know or heard about in this areaf? Thank you.

After you get it cleaned off bring it to the jewelry store and they can test it! It sounds like you have a silver led mix. NY is LOADED with led & silver! You may be onto a big one sir!🏆🏆🏆

I pan a certain place at a terminal moraine by lake Ontario, where you can see a cross section of the glacial deposits on the glacial deposit cliff that has been eroded by the lake. You can see where there must have been an outflow stream and the deposits of heavies at the bottom. I have found nice garnets, a small emerald, tons of black sand and ultra fine gold that I lose mostly lol. Haven't settled on a way to extract it. Might get an old centrifuge. Found a glacial irregular packed with some sort of slivery metallic ore also, it's in quartz, very high melting point, think it's that arsenic loaded stuff but not sure.

Get yourself a gold cube. Be sure all material is Classified first to be very small. Then run it through the gold cube. Make sure the water pressure is not to strong.. This will help you recover that super fine gold!

I'm not far from the fingers lakes I'm going to take a trip over there and fill a few pans and crack open a bottle of wine from the region. Thanks Jeff!
