After living in various parts of Arizona for 50 years I am not sure I would agree with this ranking but a good representation of what is here. Obviously employment and diversity are key factors for most people interested in moving here so I would suggest Phoenix or Tucson. Each of these has lifestyle options (City vs Suburb vs rural) that can accommodate most but you won't see snow and be ready for the heat.
@rrudydedogg37794 жыл бұрын
This past winter Tucson had five days of snow. Incredible! It used to be that Tucson got a dusting every few years and we would go out and marvel in it before it melted, usually by noontime. Things are changing though.

For a very large city, the Phoenix area is pretty clean compared to other large cities. Too hot in the summer however. Flagstaff is really nice but is too cold in the winter with the 7000 ft elevation. Prescott seems to be just right at about a mile high. Not too hot or too cold. Payson is nice as well. Many people in Arizona have 2 homes. One for summer and winter. You can do that here because of elevations. Unlike Michigan, where you get a nasty winters you must drive to Florida to get the warm winter temps. Here in Arizona it's all about elevation. You don't have to travel that far. Prescott is probably the nicest place to live in Arizona. Sedona is also nice, but the traffic is horrendous. There are a lot of weird San Francisco types living there, as I have been told by people I know that live in that area.

FYI Phoenix and Tucson are suffering from a 20 year drought. Our drinking water (CAP) is transported over 328 miles from the Colorado River. That water has been over-allocated between seven states and Mexico. The water is stored in Lake Mead that is quickly becoming depleted. You might have seen the pics with what looks like a bathroom ring where the water used to be. If if gets below a certain level, we won't be able to pump the water from it. Please, don't move here and plant a lawn. Embrace our desert and it's native plants.

As a former Tucson resident of 27 years I think it is important to include the heat one can expect in both Tucson and Phoenix. Yes, it's "a dry heat" but it is not unusual to have temperatures in excess of 100 degrees for weeks on end. You get your outside chores done by 11:00am then get back inside with the AC. Due to all the asphalt, concrete and steel, Phoenix does not cool off at night and, as Tucson has grown so much, it too is retaining its heat in the built up areas. Be forewarned that the roads in Tucson are very rough. It's like they are more concerned with building new roads than caring for the ones already there. Just sayin'. I loved Tucson in the '70s and '80s but it got too big, too crowded and lost its feeling of history and heritage.....it lost its soul.

Humidity means there will be clouds and if theres also a bit of a wind, then 90's actually feels bearable, but 110 and SUNNY?..No Thank you!! I think in the summer Arizonians are happiest during Monsoon season, precisely because clouds/rain, equals lowering the heat temps! (In other words Houston!)... Just sayin'!

Good call - wife and I had it on our list of possibles pre-corona though so are a number of the places mentioned, except Pheonix which is just too hot. ~70 miles from Tucson. Higher elevation, so cooler temps vs Tucson/Oro Valley/Marana. Close to "wine country?". 40,000 people or so. Fair bit of military and hence population churn due to Ft. Huachuca. Property is relatively inexpensive. As of writing (8/14/2020) the most expensive home for sale in the city is $725K with a median home value of around $200K. Home price appreciation over the last 10 years has been almost nil. It doesn't have the wealth and upscale nature of Oro Valley (similar population size), being too far from Tucson to reasonably commute, but it's decent in size and appears to have most everything you need for living. City council seem to be pro business and eager to sensibly grow the town. Waiting to see if AZ goes blue in November though before we pull the trigger.

We live just east of SV and 20 miles west of Bisbee. SV is a typical military town, decent shopping etc. We live on 4 acres with beautiful 360-degree views, with the Huachuca mountains as the backdrop. Moved down from Phoenix 3 years ago. Love it down here - the weather is divine (15-20 degrees cooler than metro Phoenix during summer) and we get snow 2-3 times each winter.

@@stuartclubb4302, my family lived in Sierra Vista 1979-1982. As far as I'm concerned the weather is ideal, not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. When we lived there the population in the area was around 28, 000 but we've been back a few times since then, as recently as 2018 or 2019. The shopping and restaurant situation was greatly improved since we lived there. My wife and I were both government civilian employees at Ft. Huachuca and there were a number of people who lived in Tucson who commuted daily via a bus that made the run between Tucson and the fort.

Flagstaff is beautiful. Scottsdale isn't my style. The Golf course beging where I live has ruined the walking trail next to it. Imagine that, living or visiting a desert, and tearing it to shreds and putting turf down. Durrrr
