I carry the Ruger LCP in 380 with built in laser sighting. The bullet pretty much hits where the laser points out to about 50 feet. I was quite pleased with its performance. It's a true pocket carry gun.

M and P Bodyguard with Crimson Trace laser grip is a fantastic gun. This is the laser that turns on when you grip the gun, not the one where you have to push a button to activate it. The secret to the Bodyguard heavy trigger is to use the first joint of your finger instead of just the pad of your finger you would use on most triggers. Also adding a +1 grip extension gives a full grip and 7 +1 rounds. Great accuracy at 7 yards with this set up.

I am a former LEO and long-time 2nd amendment practitioner. The M&P Bodyguard 380 is fantastic! I have one with and one without the manual thumb safety. I carry it in a Safariland leather pocket holster ALL day long and don't even know it's there. When I'm not at work and just around the house or running errands most of the time it's in sweatpants or workout clothes. Again, this pistol goes with me and nobody knows it's there. 6+1 of quality 380 is nothing to sneeze at. Great for rock solid program compliance. I work in an industry where I'm not supposed to carry at work. However, it's located in one of the most dangerous cities in the state I live in so I do carry. Nobody ever knows the gun is there and, at the end of the day, that's how a pocket gun is supposed to be. Unknown until it's time to present it. If you haven't shot one I strongly suggest you do.

Good job! Personally, after 13 years of concealed carry experience, I wouldn't put the G43 or LC9s among my favorites picks for pocket carry. I think they're too big. Don't get me wrong, I can jam a G26 in my pocket (I don't wear skinny jeans), but I still think the other two smaller guns are a little too big to be best choices in the pocket. The Ruger LCP II is pretty good, but I prefer sights with contrast. I have a S&W M&P Bodyguard 380. The trigger is amazing for the FIRST shot. In other words, it is smooth, but more important, I can pull the trigger with zero front sight disruption (it's very accurate). Its trigger is actually better than the six Glocks I've had (again, for the first shot). I can pull its trigger as well as any gun, but rapid fire is where any DAO trigger is going to lose accuracy. That said, these are for up close and dirty, and I prefer belt guns most of the time anyway like my G26 and SIG P229 Enhanced Elite (again, it's not like I don't have a tolerance for larger guns). I also prefer DAO for the pocket when I do carry that way because it's easy to forget and jam something in your pocket that could get caught in a holstered trigger guard if it's of the plush variety as kydex isn't very comfortable or concealable in the pocket in my experience (I stopped using my Alabama pocket holster that Hickok45 recommends). That said, the shootability of the G42, coupled with its diminutive size compared with the G43, is something I've always had an interest in trying out. The Bodyguard won out, however, because it is the smallest gun that is comfortable in my hand, and I threw some XS Big Dots on it. I don't prefer those sights on larger guns, but they work exceptionally well for pocket rockets. Btw, I am glad you did not include the SIG Sauer P365. That gun has a lot of potential, but I would not trust it anytime soon. The kind of problems it has had are going to require a track record with many rounds before I would ever trust it. They should have made it available in .380 which is less punishing on the gun. People should not underestimate that round. It's very effective and perfect for light pocket rockets. SIG's P365 ammo, btw, is technically less powerful than Underwood's .380 Xtreme Defence rounds (by only 1 or 2 foot lbs). That says a lot when a gun manufacturer produces a .380-like 9mm round for one of its firearms.

One of My favorite "pocket guns" is a S&W model 437 .38 revolver. I'll take 5 rounds of 124 gr .38+p semijacketed flatnose over 6 rounds of .380 in a Bigger semiauto. The 437 is an airweight, tipping the scales at 14 oz. and with the FDE rubber combat grip on it you get a really good purchase on the gun. It's Very comfortable to carry. Never discount the Usefulness of a revolver, they ARE still a viable platform for personal Defense. 👍🏻

I would caution on the bodyguard. Size and shape are incredible for extreme light and small carry. Ironically, it is not uncomfortable in the hand at all. However, the trigger is the worst I've ever experienced. The stiffness is part of the problem. The other problem is where it breaks. Its a long travel, and does not break until all the way back. Several times the skin on my finger would get in the way of being able to fire it. I am sure that repetition and practice would help. But that could be an issue in a stress situation.

If you're so unaware of your surroundings and the threats facing you that the difference between you surviving or dying is the tiny fraction of a second it takes your thumb to flip off a safety (which can be done as part of your draw stroke) then you need to get your head out of the clouds and pay more attention to your surroundings so that you recognize potential threats soon enough to take effective defensive action.

If you can't train yourself to flip the safety on the Ruger as you draw it, you have a problem. You can do it as you draw in one motion. It would still be ready by the time you aim. The safety on the Ruger LC9 is super easy to work. You barely have to reach up with your thumb.

Kahr CW380. Small, light, amazingly accurate, comfortable grip size (I added a Talon Grip), easy to shoot. DeSantis (Super Fly?) pocket holster in one front pocket, DeSantis Mag Holster in the opposite front pocket and it’s something I don’t have to struggle with to get ready; thus it’s always with me in my cargo shorts (home carry, people!). It can then be a jacket pocket gun in cooler weather with the same carry rig. Winter will now be a little different story, maybe, now that I’ve discovered Sticky Holsters. Always thought “pocket rocket” refers to small fast cars; STI’s, Evo’s, GTI’s and the like. Anyway, when anyone states best of something, that anyone should end the phrase with “for me”. I live in Miami, FL; hot and muggy 35o out of 365. I wear shorts and a T-shirt to work, so 80% of my time out is with light clothing. At work my shorts are cargo shorts, however I move around loading and driving trucks. The only guns in this list I would even consider to pocket carry are the bodyguard and the LCP2. I carry a bodyguard in my pocket, however it’s the 38 Special wheel gun. Sometimes in a de Santis pocket holster, sometimes by itself. I need a lightweight, heavy trigger, inconspicuous gun. I considered the LCR, especially in 327 Fed Magnu, one more round and more power, got the M&P... no complaints. Advantages? Double action hammer less, the reliability of a revolver, can shoot inside pocket, and again if need be.

Add the Sig P238 and S&W 911...both very similar. I had similar dislike for the manual safety (when I've since gotten over), so for years I carried a Kahr P380 which is perfect size/design for pocket carry...and just enough weight to be enjoyable to shoot. BUT, I had repeated feed reliability issues that I and a couple of gunsmith's could never reconcile. So, I swapped out the K for the Sig (the S&W wasn't on the shelf yet when I bought) and the S has run like a top. I hope my Kahr was just a one-off problem, as they are great designs for carry and enjoyable to shoot. All three should be on your radar if you need to pocket-carry.

Also, I think you oughta drop the #3 S&W bodyguard (it's a pos) and include the Ruger LCR .38 special revolver.... it's perfect for close in protection.

Ted Cregger I just bought the .38 special to carry. I agree with you. Very lightweight revolver.

Gotta have a good mix that fits you comfortable........for me is pocket rockers - 1. Kahr CM40, fits prefect in pocket with or without pocket holster " Uncle Mike's ", 2. Kahr CM45, just like its little brother.....damm good fit, 3. Springfield XD mod. 2 45 Sub-compact " can be carried in pocket or IWB.....the big plus is you can hold 9 rds dble stck flush, they are my secondary or backups......my primary is SD9VE or SD40VE.....IWB with Uncle Mike's holster with retention strap, 9mm gives you 16 rds of heat & 40 cal. gives you 14 rds of heat.....that's just me, bee safe yall ✌ !

The bodyguard trigger is so long and heavy, the safety is just there for those who want it's peace of mind. My father will only carry a gun with a safety, so it worked out as a good gift. I like my TCP for carry.

A comment about Sportman's Guide: back some years ago (1990's): I bought a repro '51 Colt cap n ball revolver from them, followed up by a '58 Remington copy (both Italian manufacture); the Colt was great but the Remington had some serious manufacturing defects. I contacted Sportsman's Guide and they gladly took back the Remington for a full refund, no questions asked. Can't ask for better customer service than that.

$20 off? It's about time you made yourself useful. I've got 2 Bodyguard 380's and the safety will definitely not engage on accident. S&W made sure it takes considerable effort to purposely engage and/or disengage the safety. Bodyguard + Lehigh Defense rounds. = one nasty little package. LCP II has a trigger way to light for a self defense gun.

Sadly, I had issues with my Bodyguard 380. Broke the firing pin, and sent it in for repair. Got it back from Smith and then it started having super frequent light primer strikes. Got rid of it for the slightly bigger and much cheaper Ruger EC9s. I like the Ruger.
@timhoward78525 жыл бұрын
Yes the bodyguard has had issues with light primer strikes and I have seen several reviews on u tube showing this. I'm surprised he included it without doing a little more research on it. It's too bad though I like the gun wish they would come up with a good fix.

I always wanted to try out a Seecamp. The Berreta Tomcat would make a good pocket gun. Kel Tec makes some good offerings as well.

Got a Tomcat for my wife (she needs tip barrel because she is so dainty she can't carry the M&P EZ and can't rack anything else). I want her gun! The Kel-Tec P-32 cannot be found for purchase or I'd have one for me and/or my daughters.

Nice recommendations. I use the M&P Shield Gen 1 and the “Gambler” version of the P238 for concealed carry. I’d put the P238 up against any pocket pistol any day.

Love my MP 380 bodyguard. Use to the trigger. Most of the time I forget it's even in my pocket. Use a cheap soft holster that prevents imprinting. I do practice pulling it out so I'm use to it. Usually safety is off.

Try a Sig P365. You'll love it even more. The wisdom is that 9mm is the absolute SMALLEST caliber useful for self defense. And I do NOT mean 380! If you trust your life to a 380, be my guest! I prefer my Sig P365. A SA Hellcat is also a nice gun.

The best pocket guns in my opinion are snub nose revolvers for the fact they can be fired from inside a coat pocket without malfunctioning and in a up close encounter that could be the difference

I just picked up Springfield 911. It is super easy to tuck away in a pocket and comes with a pocket holster and 2 mags, a 7 round extn. mag and a 6 rounder flush fit. I picked it because even for it’s small size, it fits the hand really well. It shoots smoothly and has less recoil than my LC9s, it’s competitor in my safe. No jams... yet, but I don’t have a lot of rounds down range w it yet. It has great hi vis night sights, but for whatever reason I’m shooting it low. Possibly just not used to it yet.

I have a Ruger LCP with add-on Viridian Green Laser sight. Love the ergonomics and accuracy of this pistol for pocket carry. That said, I would prefer a lock-back slide and thumb safety. I don't get to the range much, so don't carry a round in the chamber. A thumb safety would make me feel better about carrying that chamber round, and a slide locking back would make it quicker to change out mags. The green laser is far superior to a red laser, especially in total darkness. Now if Ruger would only read this post. I like the S&W bodyguard, but it's not nearly as ergonomic, and the thumb safety is so thin it's not easy to operate in a confrontational situation.

Congrats on the sponsorship. Great video as usual. If I’m going to carry a pocket rocket it will likely be a Kahr 380 or an LCR in 38 special. Disagree with you on manual safety. Just about every pistol I’ve carried over the last 35 years has had a manual safety and I assure you that is soon as I complete my draw stroke the safety is off. It’s a matter of training and more training. Besides if the bad guy already has the drop on you it won’t make much difference he’s going to get the first shot regardless. The key is making sure you shoot back with effect. Thanks for sharing.

New sub!!! You picked my EDC as number one. I love this little gun. I have to keep my shirt tucked at work and no one has ever noticed mine on me. For a holster I use the Muddy River Tactical tuckable . It’s a kydex material with a small but great belt clip. Keep posting I’ll keep watching!!!!

Also I don't see why anyone would go w a 380acp unless they inherited it or the are super recoil sensitive.9mm ammo is cheaper and imo is the bare minimum for stopping power. And please don't say stopping power is a myth because we know some calibers have higher percentage of one shot stops... Like 357magnum , 10mm, or 45acp. They do more damage. 9mm will work.... I carry one often but its the smallest caliber I feel comfortable w Will a 380 acp work?? Probably. But w 9mm being in same size package I dont see why
@Dave062YT6 жыл бұрын
Agreed and same goes for a low capacity mag .9mm compact with 12 + 1 .min .Are they hoping their assailant has a 6 shot 22 or something ?
@Mr00buckshoot6 жыл бұрын
@@Dave062YT I have a 7 shot 4 inch 357 magnum revolver I keep bedside, or on me in the truck. I also have a 5 shot 38 Smith and Wesson BODYGUARD that my GF keeps on her side. We both have a long gun COCKED locked and ready to rock as my primary for home defense. Remmy 870 12 gauge pump w an extension. It holds 8. She keeps a Ruger 10/22 w a 25 round mag loaded w stingers. It's just a 22 but she shoots it better than anything else we got. She can put 3 or 4 shots in a heart sized group real quick from 15 yards no problem.
@gunmonkey65456 жыл бұрын
I would say that the 380’s are smaller and easier to handle and shoot. Remember, we are talking about pocket guns. For example, I will choose 2 guns on his list that I own. My G42 is lighter and smaller than my G43 and a much softer shooter. A pocket gun is for backup or if you cannot carry something else comfortably. Before someone replies that comfort doesn’t matter, if you are going on your daily run, you will care about comfort or you won’t carry. Just my thoughts.
@Mr00buckshoot6 жыл бұрын
@Sunyata Agreed. 380acp 9mm 38 special are all kinda ammo dependent on whether they are decent Man stoppers or not. We all know handguns aren't fantastic for the task but the 12 inch penetration FBI Stats and all the other info we read, The real life experiences we have, test medians we shoot. I had a little 32acp I tried carrying on account of my job i wasn't allowed to carry but i did anyway. It was a little Keltec. It did not have reliable expansion. W that gun/ caliber I was better off carrying FMJ. 380acp will work but today if i gotta tuck a gun away I go w like my Smith BODYGUARD in 38 w some Critical defense. Or a Taurus 38 of the same size. I dont like they only hold 5 but i carry a speed loader and realistically 5 should be plenty for out about in my little small town. I guess if shit got 2 deep I could always break out my little Mossberg Plinkster 22 carbine that stays behind my seat lol. Hey it would work though

Love my Kimber Micro .380,... 7+1 capacity, 1911 style. Mag plate butt is just enough for a 3 finger hold, I hate Pinky dangle, aluminum body, steel slide. Tritium night sights, two tone beautiful. Disappears on IWB carry. 27 oz. unloaded I think. Very accurate,... & it's a 1911. Draws great from blue Jean pocket with sticky holster. Wouldn't change it out for anything. Smallest gun I own, use it all summer long. Old school,... hate tupperware guns. They are a tad pricey but well worth it.
