I got a used container for $1550 last week from Wuwi Shipping Container, it was a pretty good deal.

Also old containers have moved all kinds of stuff, chemicals etc, and it can be in the wood floor, Id buy only foodgrade old containers for living in, if you dont want health problems later. I worked full time inspecting containers for over a decade.

Thanks for making all the videos. And sharing so much info. I’m about to take on a 40’HC tiny house project of my own. I would love to talk to you before I do. I’m planning on doing the whole build myself, I have several years of experience in all aspects of the construction process and own an HVAC company here in San Diego. Could I get in touch with you to ask you a few questions before I dive in head first?

Have you looked into insulated containers or reefers? I worked on a project using those recently and was wondering why you wouldn’t get these instead of getting a bare one and spending money insulating it...

I'm trying to save up for 10 40 Foot Shipping Containers that are NEW and High Cubed. And the layout will be 2 40 Foot Shipping Containers put together end to end that will measure 80 Foot Long. And lay all the shipping containers that way to make it look like a normal sized home. I'm going to be using the actual Isoynene Closed Cell Spray Foam for all the walls on the inside and outside of the Shipping Containers to maintain the climate inside. On the outside I'm thinking of using water proof and rot resistant wood like Cypress or Teak as siding. One large room on the inside of the house will contain a Dedicated Home Movie Theater Room with either a 180"-290" 16:9 Ratio Fixed Movie Theater Screen with Dolby ATMOS capable Speakers and surround sound.

@@kotare86 The only issue I'm finding is I don't think the walls will be larger enough as far as wall coverage to fit between 200"-290" 16:9 Ratio. But I'll continue to see what can be done. Now as far as the Isoynene Closed Cell Spray Foam Insulation on the outside of the Shipping Containers is a thought a friend of mine gave Me. He said I can see it going on inside of the Shipping Containers as insulation. But You should also do it on the outside of the Shipping Containers to make sure it's ALWAYS going to be SUPER INSULATED!!!!!! He said then just use Water Proof, Insect Repellent, and Rot Resistant Wood on the outside like siding to make it look Awesome like a log home look. Plus He said the Spray Foam Insulation on the outside plus the wood siding will hold in the noise of Your Dedicated Home Movie Theater with all the Dolby ATMOS Speakers putting off all that noise.

Steve Vestel Sounds great! I found another video that used 2 containers spaced 8 feet apart and staggered, with a roof with windows. Check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4KxgXVvo8aNh8k (I'm obsessed since seeing the design). Regarding insulation, it would depend where you live. If you put it on the inside you would reduce space, but it might be cheaper that way? I don't know. With a design where the containers are spaced apart this wouldn't be a problem though. I haven't seen an end-to-end design before. Did you get inspiration from another particular project?

Thanks for the information ! Great Job you guys! So, I was thinking about the last part where we can know what was shipped in the "new" container? Also, we can check on the radioactivity levels inside the container ? (in case some radio active chemicals were transported / shipped using this container.) Just to be cautious . Even if we end up buying a used container, we just need to worry about keeping the container water tight and NO RADIO ACTIVITY. We never know what chemicals were shipped in the containers. Now I need to look for instruments/devices which tells us the radio active levels ...coming to you AMAZON !

Another aspect of new vs used containers is chemicals. They spray chemicals to preserve some of the products they are transporting. The newer the container, the less chemicals you have to deal with.

Since we don't know the history of the container coz some containers were used to carry highly toxic chemicals and even someone told me it was used to transport nuclear chemicals. I think new container will be safe!

Why not just create your own container? Purchase some hot rolled universal h beam then form it into a container with whatever dimensions you want you can go 40m long 20m wide or even 40m height i guess😂. After that weld tons of clips on hbeam web then run it with purlins as thick as you want for flooring and ceiling.

Shipping containers can never be justified for use as a dwelling ~ for animals maybe, but not people. Besides the terrible thermal conductivity of metal and all the insulation issues thereof, it's simply easier, cheaper, and better (trifecta of building) to build using standard materials available at any building supply store like Lowes or Home Depot.
@RandomPlaceHolderName5 жыл бұрын
The surface area to volume ratio is also horrible which really doesn't help. Their shape is really meant for one thing, shipping goods whilst being narrow enough for legal road use.
