Something that doesn't get mentioned much is Royal Enfield's customer support after the bike has been purchased. Last year my Himalayan had developed a very minor oil leak at the cam chain cover. I wasn't concerned because the engine wasn't pissing oil, it just looked like it had been wiped with an oily rag. I've owned classic British bikes and this was nothing in comparison. (You know what they say - "If it's not leaking oil that means there's none in there" and "My bike does not leak... it marks its territory!") When I took the bike in for its regular service the guys in the workshop spotted the leak. I was expecting them to say they'd fit a new gasket and see how it goes. I did not expect them to say "We've been on the phone to Royal Enfield and they say you need a new cylinder head." "How much will that cost?" "Nothing. And there's no labour charge either." Last month I got a letter from the importers saying they had identified a problem with the brakes. Now I have had no problems with the brakes on my Himalayan. They are not as sharp as the brakes on a sports bike but they are ideal when riding on ice and snow which I do every year. When I took the bike in for its pre-winter service they upgraded the brakes to the latest version - free of charge. So here I am riding a 2019 BS4 Himalayan with 2020 cylinder head and 2021 brakes. The upgrades cost NOTHING! I am VERY happy :-)

brill vid, i agree 100% :D after 32yrs of riding 1000+cc bikes, i ordered a 2021 Himalayan and love it! i have no regrets about buying it, the more you ride them, the more they get under your skin and into your heart...It is the only bike i have owned that i couldn't ever sell. it has become my soul mate in such a short time :) 55 yrs old next January, pension pot available, so time to ride away for a few months (or more) of fun and go where the wind blows me :)

Have a deposit down on a Himalayan. I ride an older HD Road King that can take me thousands of miles on tarmac in comfort, but not one mile on a dirt track (at least not an easy one), and that's where I want to explore as I rapidly head toward my 60's.
@paulwick2723 жыл бұрын
I'm 65 and in the United States I was looking at the RE INT 650 then I saw what the Himalayan was capable of doing I have rough country roads in my area the Himalayan is better suited for. Bought my 2021 Rock Red in June and taking the MSF course this week since I haven't been on a motorcycle in 10 years I plan on riding it this month until winter It's the Jeep of motorcycles and already started making it my own the fancier something is and the more electronics it has the more expensive it is the simpler the better for my wallet Great Video and beautiful country there

And yeah, gotta agree with everything you've said here. She's not fast, but there's this sense when you ride her that she'll take anything and everything you throw her way, that she'll just pootle from dawn to dusk without setting a foot wrong. She's definitely a bike for tooling around country lanes and taking in the scenery rather than hooning down motorways and A-roads.

Hey mate! Late to the party but loooved your video, and even more the accent x) I'm considering investing in a Himmy probably the next year, the way you talked about her really reminded me about our legendary Fiat Panda 4x4 here in Italy, a car that was NOT fast, was the opposite of fancy, it was not a horse, it was a mountain goat, cheap and reliable she could carry you to the top of the alps at her own pace, there are still videos popping up putting the Panda against the most modern and powerful 4x4 and the Panda leaves them in the dust! So you definitively tipped me over into considering the Himmy! Thanks!

The himmi has been on my radar for a while but losing a 100bhp is something I’m concerned about however after watching your vids I now need to test ride one, low maintenance and overall ease of ownership seem very appealing plus the chance to take in more of the surroundings you happen to be passing through. Also, why do you need to have all that weight and power? Do you want to go off road AND be able to do 140 mph on the motorway? I've never understood it. Madness. Great explanation and it confirms my decision to get a new Himalayan. My dear wife died with Covid early this year and I have decided at nearly 80 years old and whilst I still have all my faculties, to do some touring in the UK and I think this bike will look after me. BUT, my one concern as the bike is over 400 pounds in weight, will I be able to get it up when I drop it. Whilst I'm nearly 6 feet tall, my strength is not what it was and so how did you find picking it up? Changing subject: I notice you ride a heck of a lot with just one hand on the handle bars, is it because your left arm is injured?

I'd have one in a heartbeat, but it is just far too slow for covering ground. Especially for us in Scotland, with a distance to get to any legal trails. It would crush my spirit to have a 100 mile ride home on a himalayan and be in anything even vaguely near keen to get home. While I understand we all like to justify our bikes, this really needed another 10 hp to be 100% useable, except for those 'world adventurers'
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
Fair comment. Alot of people feel exactly that way. I'm in Scotland and happy to bimble lol 👍
@Hutchie21123 жыл бұрын
@@WeeJaunt Aye, I get that completely. I got rid of my Tracer 900 last year because it was incapable of bimbling. There are days I go out on my Tenere 700 and my average speed is under 30 mph :) But. When the mood takes me, or I want to get somewhere, I can batter on. If only they'd make a 650 that would do 100 so be chilled out at 80 I'd have one right now. Mibbe see you around D & G if you are riding around this way.

@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
www.skidmarx.co.uk they do different sizes up to 40cm which is very tall. If I remember right the screen I fitted is 34cm which is a good bit Taller than the standard 26. I must admit from a comfort perspective its been my best mod so far. Hitchcocks also do a 32cm screen it's slightly more expensive than skidmarx screen though.
@djhowse3 жыл бұрын
@@WeeJaunt yeah I fitted the Hitchcocks’s taller one but still got the buffeting off the top. Does the skidmarx one work? I swopped it for the shorter version which is really much better but obviously now I get the full force of the wind, not just on the top of the helmet 🤣. I will have a look at skidmarx thanks.
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
@@djhowse aye worth a look. I get a bit of buffering now but it's top of the helmet rather than full on visor. It's noticeably quieter for me which I guess is the main thing. All depends on ur height I suppose. Might be worth messaging Skidmarx direct they are the experts 👍

Are you sure the Himalayan was developed in concert with Harris and their English R and D department? I saw somewhere on utube (where else ? ) it was developed with some Italian engineers. Royal Enfield’s history is U.K. centred so where the observation that Italy was somewhere in the picture somewhat baffled me.
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
No you are right the Himalayan was not designed directly by Harris Performance in the UK. They were responsible for testing and finishing many aspects of the bike. Ducati 999 creator Pierre Terblanche was at that time Royal Enfield's design chief. So yes a former leading Ducati designer is no doubt the Italian link in the chain. You will find him and the many bikes he is responsible for online including the Himi. 👍

Hi Martin, just watching this vid now after watching a couple of vids from India about many frames breaking at the headstock on the earlier BS4 i believe , i'm sure your aware of this so what's your take on the problem , is there a possible problem with the current model ? i cannot find anything that says that the problem has been addressed , i will need absolute confirmation that it has been addressed before purchase .
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate yep Iv seen that myself on forums and whatnot. It's certainly not something Iv had an issue with so far. From what I can tell the models here in the UK don't seem to have the problem. Certainly not the more recent bikes. There is some anecdotal evidence that quality control might be better for exported bikes but tbh I don't know. My next video is gonna be a q+a vid I will put this question out to people see what comes back.

I bought one of these back in may 2021 to replace a Honda that I did 60k miles on. The engine sounds like a can of nails, and it makes me wince. It's my only form of transport , which is a bit of a worry, but rag it along rough bumpy country roads on the way to work and it's the dogs dangly bits.
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry James its all part of the character of the bike lol. I'm sure you will get many happy years out of it 👍

The question is can it make the 100.000 mile 🧐. My wife own one but it has 3000 on it haha. But honest there is no Himalayan with more then 50.000 miles in it. I love the bike and I think you can take it around the world but can you do this twice or more 😉. Only time can tell us. By the way Nice roads 👌🏽
@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
Yes Scotland makes it easy with regards to scenery. It's a great point just how many miles does the bike really have in it? Only time will tell right enough. If I get anything like 100k out of it then it will have more than paid for itself lol.
@vishnumohannair87913 жыл бұрын
Maintained well, it should easily make 100,000 mile. The motor is understressed, the parts are cheap to find - RE will never phase it out, that is one thing special about Royal Enfield, if a model works - they never phase it out, just minor tweaks and improvements over the years - mean you will always get OEM Parts.

@@WeeJaunt interesting video. But running the engine near redline is probably not going to work in the long run. Looks like 65@5500 RPM is where it likes to sit and a sprocket change would help lower the RPMs for highway use beyond those speeds.

@WeeJaunt3 жыл бұрын
There were issues with the early bs3 model which required alot of upgrades in the bs4 model. Not unusual in a new machine. Tbh you will find more Himalayans running around in more difficult terrain for longer than most bikes. Just the nature of the environment in which the bike is predominantly sold and run. It's also subjective. I have a friend tell me he wouldn't buy a Himi due to reliability. He just sold his very expensive 2016 gsxr1000 with 3500 miles on it. Iv done 10k miles on the Himi since March and most of those miles have been in dirt.. Sand.. bog or mountain with barely a glitch. The bike is a tool. Look after the tool it won't let you down.
