This 5 reasons to join Toastmasters video by Liz Jin is motivational, I confess that I just need to give myself approximately 4 to 7 weeks at the very latest as a timeline to research more about this topic for multiple reasons one reason I feel comfortable admitting even if I easily clear the question of money to become a member I would need to make sure that I am ready to make the required time andor schedule commitment, however I am still glad that I came across this youtube video.

Hi there! I really think you should start your own Toastmasters club as I'm sure there are so many people like you who wish a group existed and could really benefit from one! This is the link from the Toastmasters website. www.toastmasters.org/start-a-club. Even if you don't start a club, I highly encourage you to volunteer for as many speaking opportunities as possible. Honestly, the club was a wonderful, supportive environment for me to learn but the only way I improved was through real, consistent practice. Best of luck!

What's happening Khadija! You're not alone! Public Speaking is still one of the top things that people fear. I personally have been in toastmasters for 9 yrs and have given over 40+ speeches and I still get nervous. I've also heard the same from pro athletes, actors, musicians and other elite performers. It's not the nerves, it's what you do with the nervous energy! Channel it into what you are doing. If you're still looking to join a club, many clubs virtual now meeting through Zoom calls. Just go to www.toastmasters.org/ and click on find a club. People are attend zoom Toastmaster meetings from all over the world. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the video! I'm still a bit unsure whether to join or not, mainly because the closest meeting is about 30 minutes away by train in the next town, and starts at 19:00 to 21:30! Especially as it can come down to costs too... it isn't a huge cost, but a cost nonetheless, and I'm not sure if it is something to try for, but I am curious and enthusiastic at improving.
@LizJin

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment! I totally understand how you feel - TM definitely is a time commitment and a cost (although not nearly as expensive a cost as other public speaking programs). For me, I think it came down to the fact that I was tired of feeling insecure about my public speaking and I figured I could either spend my time wishing I were a better communicator or finally doing something about it. It's been a long journey but the confidence, self-awareness and self-discovery that came with it have been truly life-changing. Best of luck!

Why should corporate people join toast masters ?
@LizJin
@LizJin 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nandini! There are many reasons but the 4 that immediately come to mind are as follows: (1) It helps with your communication skills. You may not be giving speeches at work but nearly every job requires you to think on your feet, communicate your thoughts clearly, and persuade others. (2) It is an organic way to authentically network with your colleagues. It allowed me to meet colleagues from other functions whom I would never have met through my job. (3) It helps with career development as "improving my communication skills" was an easy and concrete goal I could put down in my development plan. (4) Corporate clubs typically meet at the workplace which makes it convenient to attend. I hope this helps!

@LizJin
@LizJin 6 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Toastmasters is organized in manuals. The first manual contains 10 speeches, the first of which is your "Icebreaker" speech where you introduce yourself in 4-6 minutes. The next 9 speeches cover a variety of techniques such as using visual aids, body language, etc. As you advance, you can choose to complete additional manuals that focus on themes such as storytelling or special occasion speeches. As for the topics of the speech themselves, the sky really is the limit! One last thing I've loved about Toastmasters is that I always leave the meetings learning something new. Best of luck!
