I am operating as a lease owner due to both of my trucks being in storage. My problems were because of brokers and companies taking half of the load cost. Ither factors were bad communication, lack of resources. America is very corrupt and only caters to certain people

If you are getting less than 50% of a load you should be turning it down. There are tons of places that are giving 75-90% and in addition there are tons of manufacturers that are in bad need of companies to transport their freight. I'm about 1 to 2 years from buying out my truck and going full on owner operator, but I have sources now that I look at and make ghosted decisions to see how I would fare out on loads. In my multi-state area I know where there are over 50 sources of good loads paying from $3.90/mile to as high as $6.90/mile, though the higher number is rare I have seen it. My point is you need to open up to more resources and look at other places for loads.

Great video! I’ve got all five covered, truck paid for, leased to a great company and so on! The emission systems are the Achilles Heal!!! 50K+ in the last two years!!!!! Two and a half years ago if I would have spent 100K on a clean/rebuilt pre emission truck I would have been much farther ahead than I am today!!!!!

Most fleets require OO's to have units no older than 5 to 7 years. Its the master plan to keep you in debt, so you cant refuse loads and thereby keeping rates low. What a good fleet manager should do is evaluate OO's records of dependability, maintenence regime and planned component rebuilding. I am lucky as fleet policy is tractors no more than 7 years old for exsisting OO's. New hires 5 years old max. Been here 23 years with same truck. Coming up to 3rd engine rebuild, transmission rebuild. Have rebearinged transmission both differentials 3 times and rebuilt powerd divider twice. Replaced radiator twice. Haven't had any major failures on the road. Engine, tranny and rear end rebuilds were scheduled before any failures. In between rebuilds have replaced, water pumps, injectors, injector harnesses, alternators, belts, brake chambers and air lines. Most of these were planned ahead of time. Have my share of problems on the road too only 2 or 3 resulted in delivery problems. I'm not perfect by any means. Full inspection beyond safety inspection of tractor has been required in the past. Satisfied that my tractor is in perfect shape, in fact better than company equipment, they pass on the year requirement. Guess there will come a time when my 2000 T600 looks old... PS Was lucky when the 7 year old anniversary came up company had bought tractors with Cat SDP engines. Those almost never ran properly and were always in the shop or behind tow truck. Where as my truck never missed a beat...

Been Trucking for 34 years and I bought a brand new Freightliner Cascadia back in 2014 and paid $162,000 for it. Now 11 years later my truck has long since been bought and paid for. Every now and then I get Young Drivers asking me am I an own operator. I take the time out of my day and I talked to them and I tell them straightforward the dudes and don'ts and exactly what they're going to face because I've been there. I don't pull no punches. I don't lie to these young cats. I told them they're going to be times when you are not going to have a paycheck because you work on commission and your commission is based off the economy. There will be times when you have so much money that you be happy for a long time. And when that time comes you reinvest that money back into your truck and also have set up a number of different accounts and diversify your money when it's good because you will need that to fall back on when things get bad.

In Texas, we have large property, we deer hunt, we pull boats and campers and trailers and we visit the country where the pavement ends and the grass trails begin. We dont get deliveries for a fridge or a stove, we koad it into our truck. We are a rolling fix it vehicle as I carry a floor jack, air compressor. and tools to fix a few on or off road anomalies because one can wait a long time for help in the hugeness of Texas. I'm aiming to get my own truck in April. Won't be financing, always been a penny pincher so I should be able to afford a -2 or -3 model year truck when I do make the purchase with a strong emergency fund remaining. I still have a couple questions after watching your video: - Do regular people have access to auctions and are these sight unseen? If so is there any protection against lemons? - I've heard ballparks of 10k for an electric APU installation. I am considering adding 200-400w of solar panels which will increase that somewhat. Seems it only adds a few grand to the value of a truck. How long does an electric APU tend to last?

I agree with you on the pickup thing. Like the no revenue truck is worth more than their rig... I have older tractors , I have cheap solid older trucks 4, to back me up on repairs... So I see two paid off trucks work as one revenue unit. My repair cost is 10 to 12% of gross income... I set that aside so it's always there to paid repair.i think the wage factor is off. I agree to pay good wage to get great drivers Btw I drive 2004 f150 , 392 km , I just put a rebuild motor in her, no payment!, I run BC Alberta , ice road , David

1) Fuel mileage. If you cannot afford an APU buy a generator and an A/C unit and wood. make a shelf to sit the A/C on. Beware on the generator, some will wreck it or just shut it off. Learn to hide it by backing the trailer axles up on The Back Row. How can you raise the MPG? Empty trailer? lift an axle. Much harder to do on the tractor, but it can be done. 2) show them IFTA. I would average no joke, $30.00 A MONTH. Some of the drivers would look at me when I would purchase fuel in Pa., N.Y, ect. Buy I can show you how! Never buy fuel in Oregon. PERIOD. GREAT VIDEO KEEP IT UP.

I don't think that's what he meant, a lot of people are buying trucks for the status of having a truck. I always joke with my father who bought a brand new trailboss that has a 5'9 bed is just for looks and not use. The space inside the truck is like a minivan, he does use it as a truck very lightly but he could have a million other vehicles and do the same work for half the cost in MSRP and fuel

With all the new crap they put on newer models that wont have the longevity as the olders models mainly DEF that always seems to be problematic but I still wouldn't want to spend all those hours driving only to use my free time working on it just to make decent money.

On top of that they don't know a thing about trucks-trucking,they just see $$$$ from good times. We had crazy times behind us where ppl that haven't driven for 15-16 years come back in to trucking...

Well having a pick up truck, you go over to say a furniture store you got a buy yourself some furniture or just so that you buy yourself a refrigerator or you gonna take it home with you you’ll be taking it home at that moment because you don’t even have the money to pay Them for delivery. How do you take that refrigerator home with you? Do you wanna strap it to the roof for your car? That’s why you have a pick up truck you got a Lotta garbage around the house that you need to take to the dumpster from cutting trees down because the city only comes twice a year to do a book pick up what you do with all the other tree limbs and everything that you have. How do you get it to the dumps? That’s why you got a pick up truck you got to get the car dirty on the inside or are you got a minivan you gotta get the inside of the van dirty and your wife is gonna kill you. That’s why you got a pick up truck

We all remember the failure of the convoy to Ottawa. This was a stark illustration of the futile nature of the protest and the main result is people getting their trucks towed away and bank account frozen. There was definitely not any excessive brain cells used in planning this . The convoy consist of maybe less than 5% of all the owner/op in the country or even province, with the other 95%+ of the trucks working, business as usual. It is like a strike, how can 3% of the workers are on strike and the other 95%+ of them working, it is dumb. I used the term divide and conqueror before. Teamster would never allow it to happen. Truckers do have a huge amount of clout, if only they unite and use it. Not one truck had to enter Ottawa and all refuse delivery there , in a week it will bring Ottawa to their knees. First to organize is the tanker drivers. Let them have to drive to Kingston for gas. That means Quebec tankers have to cooperate as well. After a week, even the police have to walk. They need drivers away from Ottawa, and on the phone to their buddies to support them. No trucks to tow away, fine, and no noise complains. The dumb politicians do not know how lucky they been the convoy were THAT peaceful. Lets make it even more peaceful next time.........like dead city. Nothing over 3 tons move.

That law that makes drivers have trucks no older than 5 to 7 years.. it’s bs… they should not only pay us salary or hourly.. they should pay us for the fact that we’re leaving our years and energy into these job…. They said it’s a career, I don’t think so… I would call it a career when I see I’m making at least 3,500 to a 5,000 dollars every week….these job it’s harsh… is it worth it when you pay off your truck….the other problem it’s they let anyone become a driver… it’s so dumb… only reason they do it , it’s so they can take advantage of the newbies and pay them less…I’m close to paying off my truck and I can tell you… I’m pursuing a new goal, either I become a diesel mechanic and open up a shop or maybe I will learned welding….

Being owner /operator gave the ignorant driver an illusion of owning your own business and freedom, nothing is further from the truth. It is also the big company's way of down loading all the paperwork and maintenance expenses to the driver. That plus the new driver getting ripped off by excessive mark up and finance costs just about a guarantee a large % of them will go out of business in tough times. A diesel power unit is tempting to skip by an inexperience driver, especially a decade ago when fuel are cheaper. They cost close to $10Gs and you have to check a used one is in good condition.Small operator are also vulnerable to the divide and conqueror technique to squeeze them , which will not work with larger companies. Decades ago, the Ontario ministry of Transport had to change the rule to make shipper responsible for over weight trucks. The shipper were shopping around for the most desperate owner/op to take their over weight trailers. The smarter people will not need help from Ronen, for they would stay clear from owning a truck and keep your wife and house.

Please do a clip on laws , law enforcement, speed limits, California laws against commercial vehicles. All CDL must speak fluent English. 5-10 MPH over, should never scar CDL . It should never go in a record as 80000 lbs going up and down on pothole hwys for 2000+ miles can fry anyone’s brain,m. different speeds in different states plus these. Road construction morons also cause ridiculous traffic conditions and wait times when no one is there yet the sign drops to low speed and a state trooper ready to suck your nlood can also cause these challenges. 4 wheelers , driving in right lane. There are so many other things that need to be a addressed 🤞👍😂

22 years as a o/o 33 year driving. Got 2 new broncos and 2 boats one boat is a 61 foot 3 bedroom house boat I live on . I pick my freight best thing I can tell someone is you need to know what you need to make each week trucking and household. Take your fixed costs and add 10 percent. Times that by 12 then divide that by 365 that will tell you your daily cost you need just to pay your bills per week. Then you will learn how to pick a profitable load. Work less and make more . Slow down at 70 plus your just throwing your money away if you are getting 6 do your best to get 7 that will make you 12 thousand dollars a year.

_No, I don’t like giving away too much of my secrets or my studies and findings, except for when it comes to safety, but I’m seeing for myself truck on the operators in a serious financial crisis, so I’ll share this with you guys_ _When it comes to the longevity of your engine you must understand how to keep that engine condition, friction is the number one killer for diesel engine, and finding the best oil to prevent that friction from happening at any point is nearly 1, and 1 million, right now the only oil in the world that is 100% anti-friction is Motorkote_ _That oil bonds itself to the metal inside your engine, that particular oil will not have to be changed for another five years, that oil alone in your engine can save you 1.7 gallons of diesel every 48 miles on flat surface fully loaded; now imagine having that oil in your drive gears, I believe the study showed between .6 to .8 gallons every 11.3 miles on a flat surface fully loaded._
