Gaining “mass” is really just a combination of hopefully muscle but also fat. You want your calories to come from mostly food! If you wanna gain more muscle you definitely need to be in a calorie surplus, eating high protein, but also high carbohydrates to fuel your workouts!

I feel it being something that dehydrates is a factor but it being in pre isn't just caffeine as is. I feel you should be drinking the suitable amount of water daily you need and if you have anything that dehydrates you should account for that. I'm not an expert and that's just how I look at it imo

You can definitely mix the two. Just gotta make sure you’re drinking enough water to stay hydrated!
