We must be the only ones with a regular flushing toilet and black tank in our van (self-built Sprinter 170). I don't understand why more don't do it. We simply flush, just like a regular toilet. Dump stations are in every town and most campgrounds (in the US) and it's easy to hook up a hose and open a valve. Our black tank holds 14 gallons and it lasts a week, or more if we also use other bathrooms when convenient. And there's zero smell. It's such a great option, tons cheaper than a composting toilet, but nobody else does it. I don't get it.

@dale7561 Жыл бұрын
Bit of a late reply but just google - Emptying a chemical toilet. It is nowhere near as bad as you imagine. The hardest part is carrying 20kg of second hand chicken korma over to a toilet/tank hole
@anniewisecarver744 Жыл бұрын
I would steer clear of chemical toilets and also dry flush. Chemicals and plastic waste. I like composting toilets equipped with fans. You can dump the urine receptacle that is typically in the front into a toilet or on the ground when wild camping, then wash and replace. The solid waste goes into a separate chamber in the back that contains coconut coir or humus (both can be found at gardening centers, Home Depot or Lowes) there is typically a handle on the outside that you turn that mixes the solid waste into the composting material and there is a fan that blows over that and vents to the outside and dries everything...no smell. Occasionally you bag up the contents of that chamber and throw in any public trach can or trash receptacles at parks and campgrounds. You can use a compostable bag for this. It's recommended that you don't wash this often as it is basically dry and there is good bacteria built up to enhance composting. See a Nature's Head toilet for reference.

I live in my 86 Toyota Dolphin, which has a grey and black tank. I use the kitchen and toilet every day, and it's nice to have the hot shower when needed. Oregon and Washington are easy since there are dump stations at rest areas on the I5 corridor. California is difficult, but I usually find an rv park with a dump station that I pay $10 or so to use. Living full time with my son i jab to empty the tanks about twice a month.

But beyond basic scholastics, I got him away from pop culture for a while (camping, riding, climbing, etc) then on the advice of a successful home teacher i took him to the library (he hated reading and still does). But I had him choose anything that looked interesting. Magazines, books, videos. No fiction. No direct scholastics. After he finally understood, we went home with loads of hunting, motorcycle, gun, bird, and ocean stuff. Then I had him simply pour through those for a few weeks. All interests eventually paled in comparison to his fascination with ocean/fish stuff. So I find a marine science center where we volunteered for about 2.5 years and he learned a ton. I did English and math through that volunteering as well. We had a blast.

I would just use a funnel with a hose that goes to the black tank for urine. And a Porta Potti for number 2 only, and you could probably empty it anywhere, like in a public restroom, sewage drain, etc, etc.
@8jaime8 Жыл бұрын
What you are calling a sewer drain is likely a storm drain. A stormwater sewer is not treated; it goes directly to water bodies . Please do not put sewage into it. Sewage lines do not open to the air because they would stink and spread disease. If you see an open ‘sewer’ grate on the road, it’s a storm drain for water only and should not have sewage poured into it. :)

Solution....don't waste the space. You'll be carrying a box of human waste whichever way you look at it right? You dont need a bathroom silly, you're in a van not a house. You'll apreciate the space when you're in on those long dark winter nights. Unless you're not planning on staying that long? You dont need a dedicated space for a shower either. Builders bucket (a range of colours available) + 12v pump shower al la dog washer = about £20. As for the loo 1. Put a bag on a bed pan (look it up). Use a compostable one (the bag not the bed pan). 2.Throw some pine needles in. 3. Squat and do your buisness. Arguably better for the health than sitting. 4. Pee in a glass jug.....chuck it in a bottle to dispose of later. Or dispose of it somwhere suitable. Never in the same place twice. 5. Put the poop in a plastic box with a lid. 6. Put the bag of poop in a doggy bin, they're everywhere. If you're really wild use a spade, it's groundbreaking technology. I'm not dissin your thing. I'm just sayin, you can do it without all the gizmos and there's fewer things to go wrong.

I miss the incinerating toilet here, but it may be the most complicated and expensive solution.
@lyfandeth Жыл бұрын
Expensive, yes. But the required maintenance is about as hard as changing the air filter on a car. In exchange for that, it consumes no water or gas, just needs gobs of power. Or there are propane models. Nothing but sterile ash powder to dispose of. And unlike "composting" toilets, which really just desicate and do not compost, the waste ash is not raw sewage. Alaskan fishing fleets rely on them.

There are to many people by camping and poo in the nature. I think everybody has to take with every waste that is produced. Also the poo is human waste, that no one should bring on other people or other country land. For me it is also a question of respekt. The easyest way is to use a dry toilett where pee and poo is seperated. You have you poo in a normal bag and bring it to waste Container or use as compost.

People in 2023 are so soft and weird. I grew up in the heartland of Florida nothing but but orange groves cow pastures for miles. I'm 32 now but I use to camp a lot more than I do now and I've lived through hurricane Charley back in 2004 and every other hurricane that hit Florida since then. I became water conservative in that time because we were without power for weeks after hurricane Charley and a couple of days even just recently after hurricane Ian last September. When hurricane Irma back in 2017 I bought a whole bunch of bucket toilet lids and a bunch of clumping cat litter because that's what we used for camping at the time. After hurricane Irma I fully committed to Water Minimalism and Conservativism. I decided to stop wasting water our flush toilets were out dated and wasting so much water so we stopped using them. We realized cat litter is not sustainable. And systems that encourage people to divert number one from number two are not only completely unnecessary but often outrageous and price. Through a literal shit ton of trial, error, and research we discovered the perfect dry toilet method that is completely sanitary with minimum to no smell at all.

Step in human Tootsie Roll, ? it stands tall, after it falls approximately 34" inches, he wipes with a black wash rag, as people will notice white toilet paper, so watch your step, . he gets stoned, is constipated, he claims to shit one 14" long, cranks up, and moves some place else, feeds the flies, feeds, rats, but sugar free Tootsie Roll. 9 - 6 -21 Welcome to the Jungle. !

Don't do a nature's head. Biggest regret ever. No problem in the southwest or north, major issues in southeast. 💩🦟🦗👃 "Fan to take the stink out" so stinky. Your neighbors will hate you the cockroaches and flies will love you.
