You know what works a lot better than chains and rubber straps? Double jacket hose (fireman’s hose). They last forever, specially with small diameter bullets (rifle ammo zips through leaving minimal damage). There’s a local AR500 manufacturer here that came up with that.

I use wooden saw horse, and 50lbs para cord. Loop it together and that way it slides the steel target perfect every time.

I received the steel target hangers this past Christmas and finally today got the one in electrical pipe and set it up pretty much the same way you did. 5 foot length for the legs but I cut the cross pipe down to 6 feet. Can't wait to go put it to use.

May I suggest plastic saw horses with bungee cords hanging your steel. The plastic saw horses are light weight, fold up, fold down and allows your steel to swing. No tools required. They lay flat in the trunk of my car with the steel always ready to go.

For the tri-leg 2x4 mount base (the last one), shouldn't the target mount to the opposite side, where the two legs have an opening in between? In its current direction, where the third leg is directly underneath the target, won't the ricochet bounce downward and destroy that leg?
@NeckboneArmory2 жыл бұрын
yea but on the other side is the hex bolt that holds the upright 2x4 in place and it's right below the steel

Please tell me the difference between hanging the plate straight down with chains ( no extra nuts or washers to make it angle down ) and the ar500 hangers hanging the steel straight down ? Why is one safe and one ain’t ? By the way, if you buy Grade 70 chain, you won’t shoot thru it, unless you use a 50 cal. And all bolts should be Grade 8 so you can’t damage them from wayward shots :)
@NeckboneArmory2 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is that you need them either angled or able to swing, but both is better. Yes on the bolts! I've got grade 8 bolts now.
@Rantz20402 жыл бұрын
I've taken chunks out of a grade 70 with my 5.56 and my .308, it does do a LOT better with that chunky 3/8 links but the best part about those chains is the gold color
@alcantrell53406 ай бұрын
The answer to your question is… they’re no differents. Both hang straight down. One is not superior to the other. Your welcome

Thank you. I really appreciate your tour through the multiple options. I'm leaning towards those steel hangers for my small targets. I tried the wooden frames and bases before but didn't like the fact that the shrapnel/fragments from the bullets eats the wood frames away at a fast pace. It quickly becomes splinter-ville and is a pain to handle. I have one smaller AR 500 steel plate that measures 10x12 and I love to shoot it out to 350 yards. Beyond that it get's really small. Looking at getting a full size IPSC target for longer distances. Lucky to live in the Southwest USA. So, I was wondering if you had any ideas on supporting a larger target as well. Your video flowed so well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again for the great video. Keep em coming!!

You can actually buy a metal cover now for the shrapnel that hits below the target so it saves the wood and last way longer

Thank you for taking the time to show your different target stand set ups. This has helped me a lot in deciding what I would like for my future small range setup. I was about to buy the highwild black stand base that you showed. It looked nice in the pictures but definitely shows to be junky. I will be going with the 2x4 base set up. What size is the neon yellow highwild silhouette target? Is it a 7x12 or a 9x16? I was looking at buying the 12x20 but it looks like you are having plenty of fun with a smaller size. Would you like to have a 12x20 or is this just fine for you? Thanks again for the help.
@NeckboneArmory2 жыл бұрын
I do have a 12x20 that work great in a 100 yard lane. That yellow silhouette must be the 7x12 but is fine for closer shooting. I started on larger targets and worked my way to smaller as I got more confident.

Good primer on steal plates and ways to hang them. QUESTION : Will your 1 inch conduit hold a 12x20 3/8 thick silhouette target ? They weigh about 22 pounds or so... My plans are 2 10 inch rounds and that silhouette... I planned on using 3/4 inch conduit also because it's half the cost of 1 inch. You're thoughts ? I appreciate your time spent in responding, thanks.
@NeckboneArmory2 жыл бұрын
Yea I have heavy stuff like that on the conduit. After a while though they will start to buckle after you've shot the conduit enough times.

With the hooks do you need to worry about angling them downwards? If so any thoughts on how to do so.
