Forgot the big one. I've been reliably informed that if you think the frames are the exact same frames as the ones you can go into a shop and buy, you are mistaken. Any frame going to a pro team has been so meticulously checked over for faults in the carbon layup, scanned and QC'd to within an inch of its life, it could actually be considered a different product. This is why buying ex-pro team bikes is a really good idea.

The 6.8kg rule is not for safety reasons only, but also to ensure there's a standard that allows time comparisons across the years and events to be somewhat accurate, if the rule went away or down, any new record set after that can't be compared with old ones and it will be view with skepticism and immediately pinned down to the lower weight. This weight is the only thing that connects current generation with the past
@l.d.t.6327

The most important standard actually is not the time comparisons, but creating a level playfield in e.g. the youth categories. You don't want the richest kid win on a weightweenie bike just because his dad could pay for an uberexpensive frame / wheels / groupset.

Regarding 6.8kg rule: 90% of high end bikes these days are 7kg plus, even in super high end builds, once you are in size 56 and up and clincher tires. Pinarello F12, Canyon Ultimate (not Evo), new SuperSix, Scott Addict, Willier Zero etc. are all around 7kg, even with 1300g wheels and SRAM Red AXS.

Has anyone else noticed that the paint job on the pro`s bike is almost never available on the production model? But at the same time they tell us to spend $5-10000 on the bike that supposedly won X races, but no matter how much you spend, you don`t actually get that bike, you get a similar bike with a worse paint job and probably worse CQ. Where i come from, that`s called a scam.

If u are really lucky u get SRAM AXS, not true though, it's a fact that Shimano DI2 shifts better, is easier to change out for a new wheel from the neutral cars and like u said before, they don't need to do the bike-setup so they don't care how easy it is, in fact for the mechanics it's alot easier to recharge 1 battery/bike that 2!

UCI races also apply to youth categories. You wouldn't want your junior son or daughter having to compete in a hilly race with a Lightweight Urgestalt + Lightweight wheels bike around 5kgs and +10K dollars/euros if you can 'only' afford a 2000 dollar 7kgs bike. That 2kg of difference will actually make a real world difference. So that weight limit is there for a reason that has more to do with levelling the playfield these days, than with safety in mind.

My bike is metal, Titanium. Their bikes are fragile like plastic and held together with glue. That just seems weird to me. My bike can fall over and not hurt it but their bikes can't do that. Weight is not what's important to me but safety and reliability is.
@sbccbc7471

Mine's made out of aluminium (now weighs 9 kg when no accessories are on). During my last event ride last year (78 km on a highway at night with a few climbs my bike can handle), my bike's starting weight exceeds 11 kg since it had two bidons, a top tube bag (no longer in use), an action camera (and a power bank), a fully-loaded saddle bag and lights. This showed how little I cared about a bike's weight, as long as I can ride sufficiently fast on my own, nothing else matters. When I told the customers I served about this, some of them were quite dumbfound.

You obviously never rode a carbon bike. And glueing can be one of the most reliable ways to connect parts to each other, as proven in thousands of large passenger planes that safely get millions of people from A to B on a daily basis. I once even crashed with a carbon frame, the result was a little dent in the top tube, but it could easily be repaired. It was good as new after, and I have put on 25.000 km on the frame since then without any problem.

@@einundsiebenziger5488 You obviously don't know squat about me. I've owned several carbon bikes. I had a Scott Spark mountain bike that simply fell onto it's side and put a crack in the seat stay of the rear sus triangle. Could not get it replaced because Scott production design had changed and that part was no longer in stock. Also the painted finish on the carbon road bikes would lift, chip, and peel not long after owning the bike. I've seen so many carbon bikes that look like shit because the finishes don't stick. It doesn't matter what you say Titanium is the better choice if you are going to spend thousands of dollars for a bike.

I never noticed that the pros with the most extreme positions on the bike do particularly well. So I wonder if they do it for peace of mind because they are convinced it helps. I'd guess that a position as we see in the video is not helpful at all in those hour long rides. Maybe in a 15 min all-out effort, but didn't everyone switch to wider tyres because of comfort?
