Forgot the big one. I've been reliably informed that if you think the frames are the exact same frames as the ones you can go into a shop and buy, you are mistaken. Any frame going to a pro team has been so meticulously checked over for faults in the carbon layup, scanned and QC'd to within an inch of its life, it could actually be considered a different product. This is why buying ex-pro team bikes is a really good idea.

The 6.8kg rule is not for safety reasons only, but also to ensure there's a standard that allows time comparisons across the years and events to be somewhat accurate, if the rule went away or down, any new record set after that can't be compared with old ones and it will be view with skepticism and immediately pinned down to the lower weight. This weight is the only thing that connects current generation with the past
@l.d.t.63274 жыл бұрын
The most important standard actually is not the time comparisons, but creating a level playfield in e.g. the youth categories. You don't want the richest kid win on a weightweenie bike just because his dad could pay for an uberexpensive frame / wheels / groupset.

Mine's made out of aluminium (now weighs 9 kg when no accessories are on). When I told the customers I served about this, some of them were quite dumbfound.

It was good as new after, and I have put on 25.000 km on the frame since then without any problem.

@@einundsiebenziger5488 You obviously don't know squat about me. I've owned several carbon bikes. I had a Scott Spark mountain bike that simply fell onto it's side and put a crack in the seat stay of the rear sus triangle. Could not get it replaced because Scott production design had changed and that part was no longer in stock. Also the painted finish on the carbon road bikes would lift, chip, and peel not long after owning the bike. I've seen so many carbon bikes that look like shit because the finishes don't stick. It doesn't matter what you say Titanium is the better choice if you are going to spend thousands of dollars for a bike.

Disc brakes. Pro riders and mechanics hate them, but they are forced to use them.

Thankfully, we are not forced to use them yet, because as our own mechanics and sponsors we can buy whatever the hell we can afford to buy.

@@11robotics Until the next time you go to the store and every semi-decent bike has disk brakes... But I do not care, I'll keep buying top-notch rim brakes-manual gear bikes for 20% of the new price from people that must have the fancy new stuff!!!

One thing that makes my road bike different from a pro's Pinarello and 3T Strada: mine is a beauty, the P and the 3T are vomit-inducing ugly.

The pro's themselves weigh 55-65kg. What about guys like us who weigh 75-78 Kg. How good it would be spending '000's of $ to shave a kg off the bike. Rather eat less junk, save money and shave 5-7kgs off your weight...

I never noticed that the pros with the most extreme positions on the bike do particularly well. So I wonder if they do it for peace of mind because they are convinced it helps. I'd guess that a position as we see in the video is not helpful at all in those hour long rides. Maybe in a 15 min all-out effort, but didn't everyone switch to wider tyres because of comfort?

In competition and some training by a mechanic, but they train most at home and need to do that part themselves too
