i have for a long time been using the specialized SIP Locking Grips. and their predecessors.pretty soft rubber so i have concistantly worn one pair out every season but i just love the feel of those grips. the grips i have at the moment are the ones that came on my new bike and it is the Bontrager XR Trail Elite, and i must say, i'm pretty happy with them, the thin lines makes them very good at damping vibrations and also makes a pretty hard rubber feel soft and i will be using these ones until they are a gonner and after that have i heard that the Nukeproof Horizon Race Grips are a solid set of grips so i will give them a try.

I tried running the death drips for a few months and although they were good grips I was getting hand numbness on the outside of my hands at times. I didn't totally love the "mushroom" section on the inside ether. I recently put on a pair of Ergon ge1 Evo Factory, I've only taken a couple of short rides with them but I like the feel of them and so far but will see how they hold up
@cdabcdefg123455 жыл бұрын
Flip the dmr death grip 90° so that the square part is under your palm. Best grip ever, this gives good damping for your palm but still has a good diameter where your fingers are

Can you do a similar vid with brakes and fork. I'd love to see a comparaison between TRP, Hayes, Hpe, Magura.

Would certainly love to - that's a great idea! If you're interested, we did conduct a disc brake group test not too long ago, which compares the likes of Shimano, TRP, Magura, SRAM, Hope, Trickstuff, BFO and FSA; singletrackworld.com/2017/12/stop-hammertime-we-test-8-high-powered-stoppers-in-our-disc-brake-group-test-to-find-out-which-is-best/ [ST Wil]

@singletrack5 жыл бұрын
Good to hear you're digging the GA3 grips Jack! Simple reason they weren't included in this group test - Ergon is yet to send me a pair to test out :-) Reckon I'll drop them a line and see if we can some of those in to try out, as I've gotten along with well the GS grips in the past. And thanks for watching mate! [ST Wil]

Great options here, but what about silicone lock on grips, like from RedMonkey Sports or Ergon grips with the fin? Maybe an "alternative grip style" video is needed.
@singletrack5 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! There are definitely a lot of different grip designs on the market, so there's plenty of scope for a follow-up group test. For this test I did limit it to lock-on grips specifically, which I explained why in the article here: singletrackworld.com/2019/03/top-5-lock-on-grips-2019/ Thanks for watching by the way! [ST Wil]

I never really got along with the Ergon GE1's. As Will mentioned you need to hold them with your elbows bent outwards. If I didn't my wrists would start to hurt after awhile. I replaced them with Ergon GA2's and really happy with them.
@singletrack5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mate, and cheers for the feedback on the GE1 grips! They certainly have a unique profile, and I can see that not working for some riders for sure. I think a lot of it comes down to handlebar setup too, and how you have the sweep/roll of your bars setup. Funnily enough, I don't get along so well with the GA2s. Like saddles though, grips are very much personal preference - after all, our hands are very sensitive little things :-) [ST Wil]

I have the lizard skins but I set my bike down kinda harsh on the end of the grip and it literally ripped a quarter of the end of the grip, i the. Clipped a tree on the same side of the grip and it’s falling off I wouldn’t recommend, it’s too sticky also every time I take my hand off when I’m not wearing gloves I have the black tacky dots that stick to my hand I’m ordering the pnw component loam grips and hopefully they’ll do the job and more

Question, does the steer diameter matter? I think my steering bar is 25.4 mm in diameter while I see all the grips have like 30 mm. I heard people say it doesn't matter and that the grips will always fit, is that true?
@singletrack5 жыл бұрын
Nope - all grips (well, 99% of them on the market) are all designed to fit onto the same round handlebar. When a handlebar is said to have a 25.4mm, or 31.8mm, or 35mm in diameter, this only refers to the section where the stem clamps onto it. The diameter then quickly gets smaller around the shifter/brake lever clamps and where the grips slide on. At this part of the handlebar the diameter is 22.2mm - and this is the same for every mountain bike handlebar. Hope that helps explain! [ST Wil]

My fav grips are Revgrips. here is my written review of them: wp.me/p60aTF-2t4 I have them in 34mm grips. I recommend measuring the grip diameter by making a circle with thumb and index finger, and measure this, this will give diameter you need. this worked well for me, mine is 34mm, I knew I needed this size, but I measured anyway. I use medium. large gloves depending on brand, but I use Poc gloves SO medium fits me. durable,sticky, and comfy, and they really work, but setup is crucial.
