Learning Lithuanian right now as a native Spanish speaker. We actually have something very similar to "man patinka" in Spanish which is "me gusta" and it basically means "I like" in English as well but not quite, in fact the idea is more to "man patinka" which I love and shows how languages can have similarities you wouldn't expect😄

Interesting overview. One weird thing is that English naturally tends toward double negatives. It's just that a partially imposed prescriptive grammar imposes the no double negation rule. In many cases, children learn it through schooling as if it were a foreign language. I didn't do nothing vs I didn't do anything. The double negation is the norm in most European languages.

May i also ask why google translate says that "two times" would be "du kartas" and not "du kartai" as we would expect?

The translator still makes some mistakes, but it has gotten a lot better over the years. It should be du kartai

Didelė would be feminine ending. Didelis stalas (big table) but Didelė mašina (a big car) mašina is a feminine noun

That would be "kartais". The same root as "kartas/a time" , just in this case it works as an adverb. Good question! :)

I have an important question: I have learned that "y" is like "long i", but in case of accent in "įstatymas" and "gyvenimas", the longness will disappear and the "y" sounds like a regular "i". Why is the feature ignored in the first place, in case of differently stressed words?

Į, į, called i nasal, marks the origin of the long [i.] from the diphthong in. In writing, the letter i also indicates the softness of consonants before back vowels

I don't know if this will get any attention from you, but the similarities between Lithuanian and German is kind of wild. A lot of the grammatical structure and the fundamentals of how the language works (ignoring declensions) is eerily similar. The major different is how much more "free-flowing" Lithuanian is; German is a lot more strict in where and how words are put together

Geras, gera, geri is not a noun but adverb. Geras is not kas? but koks? If you want to translate good as a noun (like your title says) it should be gėris. Unless you somehow switched from nouns to adverbs, in that case, sorry I missed it.

Yes yes of course geras is not a noun :) I just wanted to have some extra words to give more full sentences :) Geras is actually adjective. Adverb would be gerai. Thank you, for your comment :)
