Here's a funny story: after watching some KZbinrs play Randomizers, I decided to try on my own and I did a Platinum Randomizer. I found a Regigigas using the Old Rod and got excited because I randomized the abilities so I thought that I would be able to use it since it's ability had been swapped... Too bad his ability was changed to *Truant* , needless to say, my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

Defeatist has actually won me a battle once. I had 2 pokemon left, one of them was my weakend archeops and the enemy switched in his last pokemon, a weakend mega alakazam... he got defeatist via trace, killed my archeops but due to defeatist couldn't oneshot my switched in terrakion and was murdered to death by continental crush. Just for good measure.

Mimikyu is still banned from the 1v1 meta, much for the same reason that focus sash is (free setup, more turns to work a strategy). However, sturdy isn't banned. However, the number of pokemon with this ability is limited, and the ability itself is very much flawed and prone to priority attacks/status. Even despite these weakenesses, lower-tier pokemon such as crustle and donphan are able to run unchecked against major threats in the 1v1 scene just because of the extra time sturdy buys them to shell smash or z move -> ice shard respectively. Imagine if that sort of free reign was given to Mimikyu, a pokemon in OU with both setup and priority. Scary stuff and I love it.

That sad moment when Archeops is my third favorite Pokemon. For the love of God Game Freak give him a hidden ability. You gave him Defeatist in order to contain his Offensive power yet even just in Gen 5 let Excadrill exist unchecked! If I got to pick a new ability for Archeops, I'd probably say Unburden. If that is too good, well, I'd even be fine with Run Away or Pickup. Just please give him another ability Game Freak.

A lot of these bad abilities could’ve gotten buffs in later games, but sadly they never did. I feel buffing these abilities like Zen Mode automatically taking affect when you switch in, Stall raising the Defence and Special Defence every turn while still moving last, Wimp Out and Emergency Exit making an attack before switching out, Defeatist either increasing the changes of secondary effects or increasing its Speed stat and Slow Start doubling its Defence and Special Defence for the first five turns would make these abilities more useful and make the Pokemon that have these abilities be used more.

And Slaking is super good in double battles if you can get rid of truant with skill swap. Those two beasts have 160 base attack and if they lose they signature abilities (e.g entrainment>skill swap trick from shedinja to slaking) they can become unstoppable monsters.

Actually you cannot set up or protect with Regigigas. Indeed, Regigigas is one of the very few Pokémon that haven't access to Protect or Rest. And it's only boosting option is Swagger/Psych Up, an incredibly risky strategy. Someone really hates that Pokémon at Game Freak to not only gives it a terrible ability, but also forcing it to be absolutely useless in the meantime. Meaning, Truant users are immediately better, with Slaking blasting Giga Impact with zero worries, or Durant giving the ability to the enemy to cripple it (And Truant still is absolutely terrible)

At least regigigas will be good in go, surprisingly as an ice type attacker. Since without abilities, access to avalanche (aka the best ice type charge move in the game) and one of the highest cp and attack stats, especially compared to those of other ice types. It is only behind mamoswine in damage output when it comes to ice types

Yeah. Although, tbf, Slaking/Truant user would be crippled even more by Recharge Moves, as they get the recharge turn *and* the "lazy" turn. Still, Slaking is far better than Regigigas, IMO.

That means that Truant users can do something on their first turns at least. Now, on Double format, Slow Start have apparently a slight edge, since acording to Bulbapedia Simple Beam and Worry Seed works on Slow Start and not on Truant.

Kinda surprised for not including comatose Immune to status and can use choice band last resort, the only real drawbacks are wake-up slap, dream eater and bad dreams But since nobody would use these moves, and darkrai isnt bulky enough for a CB LR, it has no drawbacks Also Soul--heart, aka the much better version of moxie considering you dont have to kill it yourself, so in doubles its always works

Choice band last resort is just kinda a noob trap set, you literally cannot hit a whole type. You're better off join going with choice band and 4 attacks. It gets knock off so you can hit those ghost types

I think it's because Archeop's stats are actually insane. It literally is Aerodactyl but hits much harder(both Specially and Physically) and slightly slower. Essentially it's too good for what Game freak thinks it should be by the time you hit the 4th gym, which might be an ok call. Without defeatist it could be OU or in the very least Borderline.

Archeops was nasty in Gen 5, because there were those one time use stones that increased the damage of an attack by 50%, but they later got removed. Archeops was quite strong with the flying type one and the attack that deals bonus damage when not carrying any item.

Since it can trigger the ability/item on the first hit or negate its effect, then the second hit actually sealing the deal? I love how Wonder Guard is generally the best ability in the game, but in the case of Shedinja, it's most prominent doubles strategy is to get rid of it in favor of Sturdy.

Yeah, I don't really care for that strategy, speaking from the perspective of someone who's favorite Pokemon is Shedinja. It's too predictable. The moment you see the setup is the moment you just go right ahead and shut it all down. It takes way too long to set up to actually be useful. I find that it's easier to use Shedinja as an Ally Switcher. Can't hit him if you're using the wrong move, and if you pair him with a Pokemon that doesn't share his weaknesses, it becomes very easy to clean house, especially if the opponent guesses wrong. I also find that Shedinja thrives best in Doubles Uber than every other tier, ironically. This is because the usual big bads of the Uber tier tend to not have a counter for Shedinja, the Whale and the Tree being prime examples. Like your strategy could be easily ruined just by Shedinja popping in. I also think he's better in Ubers because weather, or at least damaging weather, is far less common due to Gordon and the Whale.

As Sableye is my absolute favorite Pokemon, I shall explain it's odd signature ability. Sableye is based on an alien sighting known as "The Hobkinsville Goblins" in which a family fought for hours against terrifying long eared bug eyes creatures as they ruthlessly tried to enter their house. Unlike most alien sightings, which are short or "too hard to remember" this one went on for HOURS, to the point where it is the single most detailed tale of aliens (at least of the ones claimed to be real) ever! So what does stall have to do with this? Like I said, this went on for hours, not only would they voraciously attack in bursts, but they'd seemingly wait, patiently so as to plan/psyc out the residents. Thusly, they were STALLING, waiting. As for it's in game use, it's probably for just that, tripping out your opponent with the surprise they're going last, probably for like pain split or counter. Although it's quite odd since counter goes on a Mega-Sableye build more than anything, so you can't use stall (even weirder since megas often use signature abilities or at least VERY rare ones). And there ya have it!

Great video. It actually gave me an interesting idea. A cool change that could actually make Color Change good and more similar to real life could be that Keckleon changes color to match the environment when a terrain or weather move is used, which would increase its evasiveness, just like real chameleons. And as a way to balance it, it can only do it once (unless it's switched), so if the opponent uses a different terrain or weather, it actually reduces its evasion.

In my opinion, the worst signature Ability is Normalize, the signature Ability of Skitty and Delcatty. All the users Moves turn into Normal type Moves. Now this may sound good because it gives Skitty and Delcatty STAB on every Move they learn, but it’s just horrible. Unless you stick Foresight on Skitty and Delcatty they can’t hit Ghost type Pokémon. Also, if you’re up against something that resists Normal type Moves, such as Rock and Steel types, you’re only going to be doing chip damage to it. Seriously I feel so sorry for these adorable cats for being stuck with such a horrible signature Ability. Just stick with Cute Charm.

I feel like Seviper should have something. Zangoose gets Toxic Boost and Immunity but. Seviper gets Shed Skin and Infiltrator. And those aren't even signature... Deadly Ghost if we are talking spites/models then they are about the same but keep in mind many are shrunk due to limitations, ie Wailord is about on par with tyrannotar despite being the biggest Pokemon in the series. The Pokédex puts zangoose at 4'03" and Seviper at 8'10", making Seviper more than double zangoose’s size. And in the anime, I forgot what the episode was called, I remember it had fear in the title but I digress, in the diamond and pearl arch Jessie’s Seviper started disobeying her because it desperately wanted to fight the 3 zangooses in the area and when they fight, the size difference is pretty apparent not as much as the Pokédex says but, it Seviper definitely looks bigger

If you want to know the best abilities, just check out the ones used in Balanced Hackmons plus the mon locked ones like Disguise and Wonderguard. I'd say Contrary, Protean, Mold Breaker/Teravolt/Turboblaze, Fur Coat, toxic heal, huge power/pure power, Drizzle, Primordial Sea, Desolate Land, magic bounce, speed boost, magic guard, Water Bubble, and comatose are all among the best abilities in no particular order. Worst abilities are the actively hindering ones like defeatist, truant, and slow start and ones that just don't do anything like Pick Up, Illuminate, and Stench

Several ways to fix slow start: 1) Give Regigigas Protect, Substitute, Rest and Skill Swap 2) Have Slow Start double Defense and Special Defense (acting as a simultaneous Light Screen and Reflect) as long as the Attack and Speed stat are halved 3) Have Regigigas get a Megaevolution with Pure Power if you have the other three Regis in the party (it sounds broken, but forces you to give up three Pokemon slots, so it pays off) 4) Give the move Crush Grip the effect to give Slow Start to the opponent too 5) Give Regigigas a signature move that is a 100% accurate instant kill if the user has taken damage in that turn

You can either: poison opponent on first hit, but not on second one (30%*70%=21%) poison opponent on second hit, but not on first one (70%*30%=21%) poison opponent on both hits (30%*30%=9%) or not poison opponent at all (70%*70%=49%) Since, of course, you can't really poison your opponent twice, either both situations in which you poison your opponent on first hit can be just treated as a simple 30% chance the move has per turn (as wether or not the move would poison on second turn is irrelevant), or the double poison situation can be counted as a simple poisoning and its chance can be added to the other two. No matter how you do it, that gives you 51% (NOT 60%) chance of poisoning and 49% chance of not poisoning. It adds up to exactly 100% as it should, since there are no other options (that basically means one of those options HAS to happen). I hope that helped.

Maybe something called vengeance, it raises the attack and speed of it by 2 stages if one of its teammates faints, but it needs to be switched in when they faint or it has to be a double battle and the other pkmn faints

Poison heal is a great ability to me, not only are you immune to poison but it heals you and makes it so no other status effect move can get in your way. Toxic boost is good but if the threat of dying from poison (which continuously gets stronger) is still there then I would prefer poison heal

Normal poison doesn't get any stronger over time, you need the "badly poisoned" status which most commonly is applied by Toxic.

Always thought Zen Mode would've been really cool if Darmanitan changed back and forth depending on whether your opponent was faster or slower than you, so if you outsped them you would have a fragile physical sweeper and if they outsped you you would have a bulky special attacker. The speed stat would have to remain the same between the two forms, though.

I am surprised Merciless did not make the list of best, sure Toxapex has a low Attack and special attack, but even so combined with it's signature move it makes it crit 100% of the time due to baleful bunker poisoning while blocking. Grant it for a true stall build Toxapex Regenerator is the better ability, but you can catch a lot of people off guard with a merciless one and those low base stats still hit hard at 100% crit.

The reason why this ability doesn't get used much is because of 2 things: firstly, crits now do 1.5x damage instead of x2 damage, so it's attacks still don't hit that hard unless the opponent is frail. Secondly, it's slow and has low attacking stats, which isn't very good for something that lets you crit a whole bunch. It may sometimes catch opponents off guard, but it's still just a gimmick at best; it's stats, typing, hidden ability, and movepool lends it to be a far better defensive Pokemon instead.

Thinking on it now, I would LOVE to see a regional form for the honedge line. There's so many weapons out there you could give it. Make it a polearm, a katana, whatever the region is based on its bound to have signature bladed weapons to give a honedge.

Signature abilities and signature moves are so fun! I love seeking out Pokemon that have them. In my Gen 1 playthrough, I'm looking forward to using a Beedrill for its Twineedle attack. It was great in Gen 1 because Bug was super effective against Poison types! Beedrill is easily overlooked for in-game teams, sadly.

That's a good point! I actually used Beedrill in the virtual console Silver version, so I missed out on the Poison anomaly, but I still loved using Twineedle!

Babu's Game Room beedrill is pretty paper in defenses, and its attack and speed arent enough to back it up along with a bad movepool, and weak stabs. There is a reason beedrill is overlooked

FYI, Aegislash was never banned in competitive play. It was banned by smogon, which is casual play masquerading as competetive, but VGC (the actual tournaments) never restricted the pokemon.

Problem with Wonder Guard that makes it bad : Anything that isnt an attack still goes through (poison, burn, confusion damage, bad dreams, sandstorm, hail, STEALTH ROCK.), its only available on a 1 hp pokemon, Therefore if any of the above happen, you just wasted a pokemon. Especially since some of them come naturally, like hail in sandstorm, which means in certain areas of certain games, you CANNOT send Shedninja out AT ALL, or else it dies on turn 1, no matter what you do, since focus sashes won't affect it. Furthermore, a ton of other abilities make this pokemon useless, like snow warning, sand stream, poison point, effect spore and so on. It is a good ability in theory, but only if you consider it alone. On a 1 hp pokemon, it is still WAY too easy to kill.

This video is talking about the abilities themselves, not the Pokemon they're attached to. To give the difference between Wonder Guard and Slow Start: Slow Start is quite obviously an ability that Regigigas could do without. It drags Gigas down itself. On the other hand, Wonder Guard is dragged down by the Pokemon that gets it: As correctly stated, if ANYTHING but Shedinja got Wonder Guard, it would be borderline broken.

the 1 hp makes a killer BH strat on showdown though, even if it isn't that game-breaking. Sturdyninja with Safety Goggles and Hail, endeavor, leech seed, and something like Sand Tomb/Whirlpool. you trap an opponent in a gradual damage thin/start weather... then spam endeavor to kill everything

Colour Change should work off the battle location, then be open to being altered by terrain moves. Might make it a tad bit more useful and it’s also in line with actual chameleons changing colour based on current environment.
