I love the caterpie evo line thanks to a hilarious mistake. I once accidentally used a master ball on a caterpie and I hadn't saved in that session. Rather than losing a few hours of gameplay I decided to raise it to lv 100 and use it to sweep the E4. That grind was so painful but the humor kept me going. Who TF raises a Butterfree to 100?! He ignored Azuril too in that regard. And btw, saying "you are not beating Diantha with it" is a kinda flawed argument, since you are comparing it to fully evolved Pokémon in the endgame and not with actual early game mons (and let's ignore the fact that you can beat Diantha with Bunnelby and really using anything with actual moves by just overlevelling). In the Smogon's Little Cup format (where base forms compete) both Bunnelby and Azuril saw top competitive play, in virtue of their amazing damage output thanks to Huge Power (especially Bunnelby, Azuril was used more in the past generations). Huge power not only doubles the base stats, but even the bonuses that natures, ivs and evs give so it's really a lot more than you'd expect. Talking about them as among the worst early mons of their region when they appear (or appeared) in the top ones from every region seems wrong to me, and doing it without even mentioning Huge Power is surely an oversight.

So I decided to make a team of six Pokemon that had horrible base stat, but I thought were cute. Nothing above 300 total, and nothing beyond the first stage of evolution. It's my favorite team to this day, because little baby Azuril dominating a Mega Gardevoir was hilarious to me. I think after watching this, I might have to try a team consisting of Magikarp, Unown, Wynaut, Kriketot, Tynamo, and Scatterbug. Catching the perfect Unown will be hard, because I want it to be the H shape and have Hidden Power: Bug or Grass just to maximize its ineffectiveness, but it would be interesting to see how far such a team could go against the toughest opponents in the game.

@@gammasecretkings I hatched a shiny Elekid from the Odd Egg and caught the Gyarados too so ditto, this is the only legitimate way to get shiny Celebi so I've wanted to do it for a very long time, it's difficult but if you pace yourself and do a few a week over several months it's worth it at the end, the more you do the better the reward.

I got a save game somewhere around here where I actually beat Pokemon Crystal with an Unown in my party... for some reason. It was such a pain with me constantly running out of PP for its one move, but it didn't do poorly when it had it's PP.
@YamatoFukkatsu5 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised you never mentioned Cleffa. This is a Pokemon that's constantly being left out of a decent STAB option. Of course, its offenses are weak, but its physical attack even moreso (being a pathetic base 25 compared to special attack's base 45), and as you know, all Normal attacks were physical up until gen4. But even then, it didn't get any special Normal attacks until Platinum, which gave it the very situational Snore and the drawback-laden Uproar via tutors (and neither move is very strong). It wasn't until Black2/White2's tutors that Cleffa finally gained a decent special STAB in Hyper Voice. However, just as soon as it got that, it was immediately snatched away when XY changed it into a Fairy-type, and for whatever reason, it's been without any STAB move ever since (it's one thing for it not to learn Moon Blast like its evos, and maybe Disarming Voice, but why is it cut off from even getting Dazzling Gleam via TM?). I guess its coverage movepool is pretty decent, but still, GameFreak is really teasing this poor thing when it comes to STAB. As for Unown, are you seriously so blind to the base stat totals that you can't bother to look at the individual stats? Yes, its physical attack is completely worthless (or at least it is now that Hidden Power's always a special move; back when it was introduced in gen2, being physical or special was tied to type, so both its attack stats being equal allowed it to benefit from Hidden Power regardless of what type it was). However, even if you subtract the 72 attack, its total is 264, which is still significantly higher than most the other Pokemon mentioned in this video, same could be said about its pretty decent 72 special attack. And even if it only learns one attack, it's most certainly a usable one that can make use of that aforementioned special attack stat (on top of that, since Hidden Power is never Normal, you're ensured at least one super effective match-up). Though, it is a shame that Hidden Power, having its base power set to 60 as of gen6, can never go as high as 70 anymore, but I guess the trade-off there is that it can no longer go as low as 30 either (still, given the power creep, it should've just been set at 70 regardless.... also, since base power is no longer factored, they should just tie Hidden Power to its own variable so that a Fairy-typing can be possible). I do wish GameFreak would go back and touch up on this Pokemon a bit (namely, they should guarantee STAB even if Hidden Power isn't Psychic; they could do this by giving Unown a unique ability, though hopefully one that lets it keep Levitate's benefits as well, or just code Hidden Power to work differently with Unown, much like how Hyperspace Fury is coded to only work when used by Hoopa Unbound), but I think Unown's a far better Pokemon than a lot of people give it credit for (ESPECIALLY compared to its competition in this video). Yes, pupa Pokemon do have a much better movepool than just Harden. However, it is worth noting that their offenses usually take a dip from their previous stages, while their defenses are still nowhere near even low-tier competitive stats (though they're still usually higher than their final forms' defenses, if only by a few base points), which doesn't quite seem worth the hit that their speed also takes, so they are notable contenders for weakest Pokemon. As an aside, part of me wonders if GameFreak just completely overlooked Metapod and the others when they went ahead and let Spewpa have Protect (and Burmy for that matter, albeit Burmy isn't quite as similar). I mean, these Pokemon are supposed to be immobile armor, and Protect is readily available through a TM, so I don't get why they continue to completely leave the move out of the older Pokemon's movesets (on another note, I find it sad that there's literally nothing outside of evolution to differentiate Silcoon from Cascoon; no different movepool, no different base stats, absolutely nothing, they're effectively the exact same Pokemon). Kricketot..... oh man, if you think it's bad now, it was at its absolute worst when it was first introduced in Diamond/Pearl. Bide was literally the only offensive move it could learn. Good luck to anyone attempting to use that without switching out. With that little HP and defense, it's gonna have trouble surviving even one turn, let alone two (though at least gen4 made Bide a priority move, so that was merciful). Needless to say, it highly appreciated Platinum giving out Bug Bite, more so than any other early Bug (though, props to Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, and Kakuna for toughing it out with their movesets as long as they did; Kricketot's moveset was horrible, but it didn't have to suffer with it near as long). If you're gonna pick on Wimpod for its natural learnset, then Abra should've at least warranted a mention (also, you talk about TMs as if they haven't had infinite usage for the past three generations). But of course, Wimpod is nothing compared to the true weakling of gen7..... seriously, I just find it sad what they did with Cosmog and Cosmoem. They learn NOTHING, even if you level them all the way to 100, and I don't see why. Sure, the road to getting a legendary shouldn't be easy (or at least it wouldn't if Exp Share wasn't a thing), but if someone just wanted to keep them NFE, there's no reason these Pokemon can't learn SOMETHING at least after the level they were supposed to evolve (as is the case with Bug Bite on most weak bugs). I was especially disappointed to see UltraSM bring tutors to gen7, and they STILL couldn't give an offensive move to those Pokemon. I mean, tutors (at least from Platinum onward) are known for giving out moves to Pokemon that could never learn TMs before, to Pokemon whose movesets had remained stagnant for years, so it was pretty sad seeing them fail to come through for the Pokemon that needed it most. Hopefully, gen8 manages to be much kinder to the star cloud and the miniature black dwarf.
