Great tips. We make breakfast burritos ahead of time and wrap them in foil. Tortillas, scrambled eggs, meat of your choice potatoes and whatever else you prefer. They are all pre-cooked and only need to be heated. Tarps a must!

The bin idea is a good one we have three bins, marked 1,2, and 3. The first bin contains stuff that we use first like hatchet, air pump extra stakes and air mattress. The second contains mostly cooking gear, and the third contains equipment not always used works out great.

Tia and Andy Thank you. The more hacks the better. I live in Chile; my wife who is recently retired has invited me to tour our Lake District in the south of the country. Gorgeous area, but we haven’t done any camping since our children were young so we’re a bit rusty. This’ll be towards the end of the year when COVID conditions allow it. We’re starting to gear up and just got a new tent. Your hacks are probably the most down to earth that I’ve found on KZbin, which is exactly what we need. Please keep them coming. All the best from the Southern Hemisphere.

Use smaller bins, instead of one large one, save your back.Can't afford tarps? Use roll sheet plastic in clear. 100' rolls for $30ish bucks *home improvement store or Wallyworld tool section) , get the thickest Mil you can so they last, you can now have ALL the tarps you need. Instead of "Tupperware" use ziploc bags and for eggs use a disposable water bottle, no leaks! Get the smaller plastic bottles from soda bottles, the smaller ones. They work perfect for eggs. Use small cook utensils, like Ikea duktig toy tools, but use a regular ladle, any tool you can't handle in a tiny form use a regular sized, save weight! For two people this is fine, like using compact hiking cook tools. Oh and pick up a folding Coleman camp oven. Nothing better than fresh baked biscuits at camp. Looks for the hacks on KZbin to make it work better! It's awesome having eggs cups or biscuits and cinnamon rolls camping...
@dianezook4467

Great tips guys. I do all those hacks already, except the large tote. My goal is to be as simple as possible down to the food storage. Everything just needs to be warmed up or cooked for the minimal amount of time to save propane. Who wants to haul and lift it up and down from the tailgate of the trunk/cargo area of their SUV/sedan? Who wants to hurt their back. while camping? Not me! I use clear ones with solid locking tops that are about 3 to 4 gallon size. You can see which ones you need at any givien time, because they're see through. My tents are too big to put in the big tote you are displaying. My camping chairs are the taller, wider and sturdy gorilla chairs, so they wouldn't fit in that big tote you have. A trip to the emergency room for a back injury would really put a damper on your weekend and cost you money. For people who want to lug a heavy tote around, with tiny tents and cheaper and smaller chairs, that's their choice. I pack the tent and chairs separately for that reason alone. I want to relax and not do heavy lifting when I camp. I do that when I'm at home.

These tips were great, definitely would like to see more! Do you have any tips for camping/ backpacking by yourself?
@TiaandAndy
@TiaandAndy 3 жыл бұрын
For sure! everything here is applicable to solo camping.. however, we would recommend a 2 person tent instead of going down to 1. The utility of having that extra sheltered space is terrific and the weight savings of a single person tent isn't that huge. Note, a single person tent isn't the same as a Bivvy. the bivvy is even more light weight but you dont' get any space to keep gear dry... that's a trade off you want to consider!

Have a gun and bear spray. I scared two men who saw me turn off to a campsite a mile away from their camp. It was 1:30am. Twenty minutes after I got to my remote dispersed campsite, I see a car driving right into my camp, Having studied criminals and how they choose their victims, for many years, I knew they were up to no good. My gun was concealed, so I took it out of my pocket and held it facing the ground and using my other hand and gave them the move along sign and they never stopped. They kept on going and turned back onto the road and headed back in the same direction they came. Like who visits total stranger's campsite at 1:30am? They saw that I was alone when I drove past them. If I didn't have that gun, I would have been another crime victim. Cops are too far away even though I had cell service.

@TiaandAndy

The best way is to bring along a bucket and do it in there. If you need to save space, we use our 1.2L water bottles and pour the water into the skillet, wash it, then refill with clean water and use that as the wash bucket. It's a bit more work but it'll save you bringing a bulky item!

Tia and Andy I’ll google fire starter now. I have problems with keeping the fire going and always feeding it. Is fire starter wood?
@TiaandAndy
@TiaandAndy 4 жыл бұрын
Fire starter is basically oil/grease + wood shavings. Here are a few more links from amazon: 🇨🇦 ➡️ amzn.to/2PSKuGz 🇺🇸 ➡️ amzn.to/3iIgw4t You don't need a whole huge piece. break them up into pieces the size of the first knuckle of your thumb. usually 1 piece will do it. but if you wanna be sure the first starts, put 2-3 pieces in different areas of the wood. The idea here is that you want some of your fire wood to catch. so you want to teepee the fire wood in a way where there's dry kindling pieces on top of the fire starter. Kindling sizes would be 1-2 fingers wide. after the kindling has caught, put increasingly larger pieces in. you'll have a camp fire in no time!

You can get a dozen cracked eggs in a 20 ounce Gatorade bottle. The bottle is durable and the lid seals tight.

One tip that I learned from experience... BRING SUNSCREEN... I didn't bring any the first time camping and I ended up looking like a lobster
@TiaandAndy
@TiaandAndy 3 жыл бұрын
Omg yes! We've actually started keeping a small bottle in the glove compartment during summer months. It's saved us a few times! If you're going to do this though... Keep it in a zip lock! The car in direct sun will get hot enough that the bottle will leak all over the place!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! This is one of our older videos, and you may see in our new ones we really don't do this much. On the flip side though its really there to be a reminder to follow and like if you do end up liking the video :) We've met people over the years who actually did not know they could subscribe to channels on youtube or that the like button existed, so it was just a callout in that regard.

No,! Buy an egg holder for camping. Fresh scrambled eggs, or boil them. Premixed you have no options. Bring a versatile pan,! This is not camp8ng, this is drive to a site, unpack your heavy and viola.....bor8ng. Plus your lugging a lot of heavy stuff.
@TiaandAndy
@TiaandAndy 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave! the eggs are only pre-cracked so we do have the options. the only thing we can't do is hardboil the egg. Also, we've brought a cast iron and a skillet. These are very versatile pans! you can pretty much do anything with them. You're right though, we did bring plenty of luxuries. If roughing it is your style, check out our bike tour videos where minimalism is the name of the game. Cheers!

They are not Tupperwares. That is a brand name, you are using Rubbermaid. Otherwise it’s a very informative video. Tupperware might object to these cheap plastic containers been called by their name and I wouldn’t want to get you in trouble.
