Nice 👍🏽😎 You can also strap them on a big jug or bottle of water pointing the light towards it and it lights all the water up like a lantern 😃🤙🏽 You might know that one already haha but, still cool 💡😁

Also, wear it around you neck while sleeping so you don't lose it when you need to get up in the middle of the night to feed the fire or water a tree.

I've had that mini rocket stove probably for 15 years. When it was around 6 bucks. I have bought another set with the conversion adapter, feet, and pouch from walmart for about 12 bucks. Its just a backup, in case. My 2 absolute favorites out of about 15 coffee making contraptions are the gsi mesh net thing and the aeropress. Now with the aeropress having all the aftermarket stuff like the "espresso" adapter, storage cap, and k cup adapter its even more versatile. They are both soo easy to clean too. Another staple I love is the ohuhu gasifier stove. Can use solid fuel, sticks, and alcohol burner along with other options. A lot of my camping gear I've had since hiking sections of the AT yearly back over 30 years ago. I do have a sawyer mini and a steripen, but the katydyn hiker pro has served me well for around 35 yrs.

You need a Mora. They can take a beating. Such a seriously great multifunctional knife. For showers, I got a drop in pump rechargeable from Amazon and use it in combination with the bag. Put water in bag to heat up a bit, use camp stove to boil water if needed to adjust temp in a 5 gallon bucket, drop pump in and take a nice hot shower. I’ve taken a 5 minute shower every day all week on one charge. It’s a necessity!!

My folding shovels remain at home. I carry a trowel. Not just any trowel. Over the years I’ve broken 5 or 6 trowels that were “just right”. Then, I got ahold of a “horri hkrri”. That’s Japanese for Dig! Dig!. Those trowels weigh much less than a folding shovel, and are as beastly strong. Not quite what a guy would use to fend off a bear - but getting close to it. Great advice on gear to bring, I’m so glad I found your channel, you have a new subscriber. I used to use a French press but probably for the past two years have been doing pour over coffee, I got a collapsible one that’s so light, while cooking on the Coleman stove I use the jet stove to heat up the water for coffee. Love your content and will be watching all the videos I’ve missed. Yes I’m one of those knife people too, but when I go camping I bring the less expensive ones, your right keep it clean and sharp what else do you need. Great couple ❤

The first four items could be condensed into one item with a jetboil for much less weight and easier to pack! The burner, fuel canister, pot support, French press, and stabilizer can all fit inside certain models like the flash.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild Жыл бұрын
That is true 😎😊 The only problem is the video title says affordable. Lol and the flash is like $150. 😁 Buying all 4 of the other items would be like $75 so it’s double the price of those. Definitely sweet if you’re looking at more expensive gear, but that just wasn’t the point of this particular video 👊🏽☺️

@@WhereWeWild Very true! And the French press kit and pot support are not always included with the Jetboil which adds to the cost. I only reccomend those propane stoves to experienced campers. I can firsee firest fires everywhere if shtf. If you knock that over your screwed. Only use it if you buy a fire proof pad to put under it or use if you clear the area of leaves.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 8 ай бұрын
They’re pretty safe actually 😊 We’ve had the wind knock them over a couple times all good nothing happens really cause it’s tightly screwed into the little tank. There are also little plastic bases you can get for the tanks that make them even more stable. But yeah on rock, dirt, sand, picnic tables, decks, haha we have used that thing pretty much everywhere no problems. Definitely always good to be mindful of fire safety though that’s for sure 👍🏽😊

Really nice gear recommendations you two. I am ordering that fan today. It’s a must have in Florida if you don’t have power. I’ve brought 20” box fans camping already but it can get silly. Hee hawing back and forth on the pillow. Leaning towards a squishy one but it’s 3x the price. I’m not back packing so usually just grab my bed pillow but they can get damp and campy smelling. Besides I like designated camp gear. My gal says, “well I imagine you have all the camp gear you need.” I just smile and answer, “ you have no idea how big my imagination can get.” And also the sage is on order. I’ll try anything to curb the bugs. Just hope it works if I don’t do the yoga ritual with it. lol Blessings

Instead of (just) a battery pack I recommend a solar panel charger. Mine was really cheap, maybe like 20$. it's super light, folds to like a 7in square, and has a pocket to hold whatever you're charging. It even comes with clips to clip to your backpack so you can charge while you hike or just to save some space. It's perfect if you have access to some sunlight. Especially if youre spending multiple days and need a way to charge your battery packs and phones or trying to save your battery pack power since you can plug other things like fans during the day.

It’s funny the batteries actually last a super long time on these things it’s pretty crazy I’ve changed them like maybe 3 times in years of using them 😂 I think it’s because you don’t really use them that that often and for long periods ya know, at least we don’t, just kind of turn them on for a few minutes then off, but yeah the rechargeable ones are great especially if you’re using them for long periods at a time. 😊🤙🏽

Do you have a video on how to properly sharpen knives (especially the machete?) Or a link to a good place to learn? Also, you might want to read a bit about white sage. It is a native and sacred plant here in CA and I have heard that it is being overharvested in the wild so it can be sold in bulk cheaply. Not sure if that's the case for the source you linked, but hope your viewers choose to buy from sustainable and respectful harvesters! 😊

No we haven’t made a knife sharpening video, but I’m sure KZbin has plenty of videos on that. And yes sage grows wild all around the area we live in CA which is rich in Native American history and culture. 😊

Thanks! 👊🏽😃 All depends on the environment really. For the most part we use two singles. If it’s really warm out we will just use a light quilt or sheet. If it’s extremely cold having the double sleeping bag can be nice so you can share body heat. 😊🤙🏽

I'd just like to say if you go to the mountains be sure to check if they have radium in the water. Radium is from decomposing granite from what I've read. Filters will not filtrate radium. Please do your research.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild Жыл бұрын
Interesting stuff. Ok haha so… for you or anyone else who might read this here’s what my own research has concluded. I think generally you would actually be more likely to find high levels of radium in your tap water at home in certain areas than you would say a mountain stream. This is because usually the deeper water is found in the ground (like drilling deep down for public water systems) the more likely it is to contain high levels of radium. Surface water on the other hand in general is usually low in radium. I think a large percentage of us have at least some low levels of it in our tap water that have been knocked down to the government regulated legal “safe” limits with water softeners. So being exposed to at least some low levels of it is pretty common. I read that in California alone there are roughly 25 million people exposed to “dangerously high levels” of radium in their tap water. As far as the effects of it, when humans drink water that contains radium 80% of it passes right through the body and 20% is absorbed into the digestive tract and travels throughout the body mostly to the bones. This can cause long term health risks depending on the level of radium actually in the water you’re drinking, and how long you are exposed to it. So basically what this all means to me is that generally as far as radium goes, you should probably be more worried about the water coming out of your kitchen faucet at home and the long term effects it might have on your body, than drinking a little surface water from a mountain stream once in a blue moon while on a day hike or backpacking trip. Hope this information was useful. Thanks for the comment! 😃😊🤙🏽

@@WhereWeWild well I beg to differ because I have a copy of the letter in my email that I mean on my photos and it's been being bought for 7 or 8 years. There was a meeting at our town hall and an older gentleman came in and was telling us about radium and how it can turn into radon when heated. He said this will affect the elderly and the young, however prolong use can affect people.
