That was hilarious. The way he put it. However, RM is both wrong & right in his points. He is wrong to imply that (as opposed to EU legislation) English law is any less complicated. English law is certainly not written in plain English. I am speaking as an English lawyer & a former EU specialist. He is right on a different point: regrettably, the ECJ judges do not abide by the rule of law in that they do take part in ECJ decisions where there may well be conflicts of interest. That is appalling. “Iniquitous” as he called it.

I agree that the House of Lords should be eliminated - abolished and replaced by an elected & accountable chamber that can be replaced by election. The Queen is unelected but she is wise and holds her counsel well. Unlike the younger royals, she doesn’t preach [loud & clear] about climate change and then go to parties on private jets. On a referendum the Queen will win handsomely so she can happily stay. Not so the Lords.

Dublin funds Channel 4 asked a clearly uncomfortable Rees-Mogg if their calculations - that Somerset has set aside £7 million (€8.2 million) for him since the Brexit vote - were correct. He declined to answer and said the Dublin move had nothing to do with Brexit. Rees-Mogg explained he was first involved in setting up a fund in Dublin 25 years ago for his previous employer. He didn’t give further details, but it would have been the fund set up by financier Robert Lloyd George, whose grandfather was the UK prime minister who partitioned Ireland. “The way the global financial system works is that different jurisdictions are suitable for different investors,” explained Rees-Mogg. “Ireland . . . is a particularly attractive place for funds, irrespective of Brexit.” Policymakers at the Department of Finance must have been delighted to receive such an endorsement for this State’s investment regime.

Also that 8 billion Euros grants you access to the common market, the customs union and free travel through all of Europe. When will it finally hit all those Brexiteers that the UK is nothing but a bankrupt rock in the north sea and is turning into a failed state at a pace hither to unknown in Europe? Have you not realized the UK is way more dependent on the EU than the EU on the UK? Have you not noticed the empire has ceased to be - that it is a dead parrot? Please leave, just don't ever come back begging to enter the EU again.
