Mandalorian Adventures is a fun, lighter game with some clever mechanisms. The card power causes bad stuff to happen, so sometimes you need to adjust your strategy in order to manipulate the bad stuff. It starts pretty simple, and unlocks new stuff, and after you play 4 games you've unlocked everything and can play all 4 game modes on all 4 maps. I was pleasantly surprised.

Arcs is one of those “this will be on a bunch of people’s top 10 all time and a lot of people will hate it” kinds of games.

Undaunted 2200: Callisto is the one that has me most hyped. I really don't like historical wargaming, so have never considered Undaunted, but the system has always intrigued me. So with a sci-fi theme, this may be my chance to try this highly-acclaimed system. My wife hates wargames, but the solo play from the prior Reinforcements expansion to Normandy and North Africa seems solid, so I might just indulge myself in this one for solo-only play. I'm also interested in the Dune expansion. We love Dune Imperium (we play a homebrew cooperative variant of 2 vs. 2 against two Rival players), and when there's a game I've played a lot that has a "more stuff" expansion, it's an opportunity to mix things up a bit. I'll be waiting to see specifically how well-received it is for Imperium w/Ix (since that's what we play) and also how it integrates with the Rival rules. If the reviews come in solidly for that, the hotness will be well-deserved. FYI, I don't actually ever look at the BGG hotness. My bookmark for BGG is for the subscriptions page, so that's always my launch point. It took me a couple years to even "get" what people meant when mentioning "the hotness". Seems pretty random. My hotness meter comes from screening/watching YT videos.

I do agree with Dune as I look at dune and its meta game/deck building strategies as something that can almost infinitely be expanded in a similar way to a tcg. I will say the advent of uprising is just confusing. I think YT as a proxy for the hotness is pretty solid as the hotness is essentially a ranking of activity on a particular listing and if there is a lot of activity it typically will be followed with videos.

I have Dune Imperium, IX & Immortality, was going to trade for Uprising, but then heard / realised there are pro's & con's to the 2 versions. So now keeping my base Imperium + expansions, ... less swingy. Some day I may buy Uprising. Bloodlines seems to work for both, so maybe I get that to 'feed my habit'.

Mandalorian is 100% worth a watch. The game hasn't hooked me yet (from what I've seen) and I am in the target demographic fan/age wise

Had a “what is this doing on the hotness” moment today with Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation. It’s a great game (if you like the IP), but I assumed it was because someone big just did a stream or a glowing review came out of nowhere. Even better - new “ultimate”edition dropping on Gamefound soon!

Yeah that one was in the border, sometimes when the old stuff pops I search and GM can’t find any reason whatsoever why they are up there. Assuming it’s gamefound in this instance.

Undaunted series is very good indeed. But get Normandy, if you like it then go all in.

Either Reinforcements expansion, you can play Undaunted solo (except the latest Stalingrad release)

Comic hunters I got for 22.50 on barbers and nobles website. The quality of the punch tokens is as bad as they say, but for less than 25 it’s hard to complain!

@@Neon_Gorilla I haven’t, but Mike DiLisio’s reviewDice Tower kind of laid it out and it looks like allot of fun with a lower barrier to entry! I love my deep strategic multi hour board game affairs but I’ve recently got a group of new gamers that I think will enjoy the theme and slightly heavier touch of strategy than say Sushi Go! I’m not the biggest comic book nerd or anything, but for 22.50 it’s such a wonderful theme to have in my collection!

Yeah Mike kind of sold me on it as well. I don’t think it’s a game I will play forever but one that I could get a few plays out of.

Played my first game of arcs last night in a 3 player game. I got destroyed but thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to playing again soon.

Really curious what was it about arcs that made you enjoy it yet still get destroyed I ask because many people point to getting destroyed and not being able to catch up as one of the reasons why they don’t like the game

@@Neon_Gorilla 2nd game tonight at 4 players and I won comfortably. I was on 22 points at the end of chapter 2 and managed to secure an ambition on my last turn in chapter 3. I used a guild card to reclaim my 7 mobilisation card so had free reign and declared the last ambition for tycoon netting me the victory. Bloody buzzing 😂
