My dad is a veteran and he told me a story about the A-10 pointing out how good it is at staying in the air. When he was in Afghanistan he saw one come in from a mission and it had at least 30+ rounds that had hit it but it was flying perfectly fine. That is one of the reasons why I think it is still being used.

A couple of interesting things to note.. The C-130 is the largest aircraft to ever land and takeoff from the deck of an Aircraft carrier. Also Prior to the B1 Lancer the US built 2 prototype X70 Valkyrie Bombers. They were the largest bomber ever built, and had a top speed of over Mach 3, almost as fast as the SR-71. The program was discontinued due the US decision to go with Stealth which the B1 Lancer has instead of speed. In today age of Hypersonic aircraft and missiles, many people now think that may have been a mistake and it may be possible to build the Valkyrie using modern materials to make it stealthier while actually increasing it speed due to lighter material being use. (It was built out of stainless steel orginally.)

I'm genuinely surprised you haven't heard of the A-10 Warthog. It's even more iconic than the AC130 in my opinion. It's basically a massive gun with wings. The thing can obliterate all ground targets from infantry to vehicles to buildings and is almost impossible to take down. I remember hearing that the force of the rounds leaving its main gun actually pushes the aircraft back mid-flight. The reason they want to retire it is because it's very expensive and not nearly as fast as other planes. You should absolutely watch some videos of it in action.

The A-10 is an old and battle tested aircraft. Alot of troops that were supported by it either hated or loved it because it does do some serious damage but it also has the highest number of blue on blue kills than any other airframe. It flies low and slow and for that reason it is meant to take a beating. However in a modern conflict especially against China it would serve very little purpose. As much as people love this aircraft, it is not impossible to shoot down and we have in fact lost quite a few of them in combat. they can ONLY be used with either some serious fighter escort or with complete air domination, and the gun has a really hard time destroying modern armor. On that, the gun which was built specifically to destroy amor, is rarely used against said armor due to how close the pilot has to get to use it, so instead they prefer to use guided weapons. If we're using guided weapons over its cannon, we might as well use the F/A-18 Super Hornet which can do the same job as the A-10 but better.

The F-35 and the F-22, although share similarities like stealth and tech, are actually very different machines and designed for different roles. the F-3 is the newest of the 5th generation aircraft but isnt made for the type of combat the older F-22 does. Think of the F-35 as a Swiss-Army Knife. Very versatile, able to conduct multiple types of missions, carry an array of different weapons, Able to dogfight, ground strike, recon, electronic warfare, etc... Now think of the F-22 as a Samurai's Katana, it was made for one purpose, to kill anything that flies with deadly accurate precision. Although it can deleiver bombs to ground targets, this doesnt really live up to the F-22s full potential. The F-22 is considered an Air Superiority Fighter, meaning if it flies and is an enemy, its gonna kill it. Where as the F-35 is a Multirole aircraft. Now its not to say an F-35 cant fight other enemy aircraft, it most certainly can, but it may struggle against enemy Air Superiority Fighters like the F-22. So when you need to clear the skies of hostile enemy air threats, you send in the F-22 to clean it out, once air superiority is established, you send in th F-35s to handle all the other missions. Also another note, the F-22 was not allowed to be exported to other countries. meaning all 187 production models built stay in the US. Whereas the F-35 was originally designed as a shared venture among many countries and allowed to be purchased by any (friendly) nation that would like ot have it.

the a-10 has a lot of hype. but as was said in the video the generals where trying to retire it. and I agree with them. its a "dumb" plane. especially compared to its modern counterparts. a-10 pilots still have to find targets with a pair of binoculars and a map while in the air. the aircraft's situational awareness is lacking. this was demonstrated with the 190th Fighter Squadron, Blues and Royals friendly fire incident. where an a10 pilot guns down a column of british vehicles killing one and wounding 5 others. its not like it was the pilots fault either. in iraq where the incident occurred a10's were forced to fly high up in order to avoid Iraqi low tech anti air. and because the a10 lacks any kind of targeting pod by default and can't be equipped with one (without an upgrade kit that cost's more than the plane itself) the top brass deemed it necessary to retire the aircraft. its role didn't even exist when it first entered service. as the video says it was designed to gun down a massive soviet armored push. but it was designed in the 60's and entered service in 1977. it wasn't designed in the 40's. any massive soviet push would be supported by radar anti air vehicles like the SA-8 Gecko or the ZSU-23-4 Shilka which would easily sho0t down an a10. honestly thee a10 is a very cool aircraft, but it should have been retired thee moment it entered service. we were lucky in a way that the wars in the middle east were with countries with very weak anti air. if that wasn't the case the a10 would have had many many many more casualties

The plane was repaired and went back into service. 3) The A-10 isn't a plane with a giant gun, it's a giant gun with a plane attached. The plane is the accessory. All jokes aside, the A-10 can stay on station 4 to 5 times longer than any other plane with only about a two minutes between each strafing/bombing run. Other planes, like the F-35, can take between 10 to 15 minutes between bombing runs while also doing fewer of them. The US Army briefly played with the idea of flying the A-10's themselves when the US Air Force first considered retiring the aircraft which perturbed the Air Forces top brass.

Yeah the loiter time for the A-10 is just unreal no chance to reorganize after the initial strafing run for the armor columns it attacks.

firing for more than 3 seconds can stall the engine of the A10 warthog. thats why they do bursts

As someone who works on B-52s, I find it funny that everyone thinks they’re super cool bombers, but have no idea how much duct tape and glue holds them together lmao, something on them breaks nearly every time they land

The A-10 is one of the most Iconic aircrafts in history. It's "BRRRT" from it's gun is probably why it's so iconic. It's comeback from a battle with such heavy damage that it's a wonder it wasn't shot down. It, was once down an engine but still made it back. You actually hear the rounds hitting the ground before you hear the sound of the gun itself. It's also the Precision Airstrike Killstreak in MW2019, and is the two planes that drop White Phosphorus on the compound in the first mission.

Choosing the B-1 over the B-2 is a bit odd.

You really need to sit down and watch some videos on the A-10. We do not have an aircraft in our inventory that will touch its close in air support. The F-35 was meant to replace it. But it can't touch the close in air support, and survivability. Check out I believe her call sign was Killer Chick. You'll understand why after that.

The F-15E Strike Eagle in my opinion is the greatest aircraft ever to take to the skies because of how battle proven and powerful it is. The F-15s 104 aerial kills to 0 aerial deaths gives it the highest kill to death ratio of any plane ever built and the F-15E retains all the air to air capabilities the F-15C or F-15D has which makes it one of the most powerful and dangerous multirole aircraft in service today with its capability to carry 23,000lbs of weapons or fuel tanks, its ability to carry 8 AIM-120 AMRAAM air to air missiles, F-15Es Sniper targeting pod to guide laser guided weapons to within feet of the target, the F-15E also has a LANTIRN pod which contains a terrain following radar which allows the plane to automatically fly at low altitudes through mountains and valleys without the pilot needing to see anything, the F-15E also has incredibly powerful P&W F100-PW-229 engines which allows the plane to go two and a half times the speed of sound (1,650 mph, 2,656 km/h), the F-15E can also carry the widest range of air to ground weapons in the entire US Air Force inventory, which makes the F-15E Strike Eagle pretty close to the most deadly combat proven multirole fighter ever made.
