Couple of points 1)Bike isn’t fast - that is basically down to the rider. 2) stiff = uncomfortable

8.2kg for the S5, that's bonkers. My aluminium CAAD 10 is sub 7kg with Ultegra 8000 and still on aluminium bars and probably cost me less than the handlebars and bottle cage on the S5. People have more money than sense. For the cost of the full S5 bike I could travel the world and experience a race on every continent on my trusty CAAD 10 and still have change left over for a coffee and sandwich. The world has gone mad!

Dude, who cares? Tour pros have won many stages and the tour itself on the s5, including its use on climbing stages foregoing the much lighter R5. Weight has nothing to do with winning races- power and talent does.

@ lol. You can look at my short. When you have a small frame and pick the right parts you can shave a lot of weight. Also there’s a S5 build video where someone got it down to sub 7kg with the stock reserve wheels. Don’t knock someone’s else statements until you have enough factual data to prove they’re false.

So exactly how much does Soecialized pay you and your company for this top spot? You lead off the Tarmac description by referencing its round tubes shapes. Since when did round tubes become aero? Then you reference the wheels as being a major attributor to being an aero bike . So is the Tarmac still the most aero if you put on 30mm climbing wheels? It might be a well-proven winner but don’t think we are fools for believing this is the most aero bike on the market, it’s just a matter of Specialized having deep pockets to pay for this endorcement.

If you look at the independent wind tunnel testing of the german magazin "Tour": The SL8 in their test method has 209 Watts for 45km/h. Which is slightly better than the SL7 (210 Watts). Other bikes they tested: - Simplon Pride 2: 199W - Storck Aerfast: 201W - Canyon Aeroad: 202W - Cervelo S5: 202W - Cannondale SystemSix: 203W - Factor One: 206W - Scott Foil: 206W - Cube Litening: 207W - Steven Arcalis: 207W - Trek Madone: 207W - Van Rysel RCR: 207W - Pinarello Dogma F: 208W - Sworks Venge: 208W - ... - Colnago V4RS 221W (perhaps the most successful bike in the last year) So not the fastest, but not slow either. But overall they still gave the SL8 the best ever overall score of 1,3 (best being 1,0), because of the stiffnes, weight and compliance. Aero testing is not as scientific as bike brands make you believe though. It all depends on the test method. I would say that all modern aero bikes are more or less the same with a small lead infront of climbing bikes like e.g. the cervelo r5 (around 230W in the Tour wind tunnel).

Canyon on DT Swiss, OD width 27mm kill it right off. It's not going head to head with increased tire sizes. They should use more modern rim shapes like NEWMEN. Totally skip the Zipp hookless not even made for inner tubes. That's just stupid, again, NEWMEN. Next issue, customer can't pick crank or stem length. Sure, width and change of shape.
