There are cars, and then there are cool cars. Those that star in the movies, pose as our wallpapers, hang from the bedroom walls, and generally have that mythical aura of badassery.
But the truth is: some of these cool cars are not as good as we think they are. In fact, they suck. Badly!

Me too. I have always wanted an early '80's Countach painted red with silver aluminum factory wheels, black interior and of course the rear spoiler. Also love the look and the fact it is carbed with 6 dual Webers and not injected. With all that said, I would turn it into a Transformers Generation 1 Autobot Sideswipe.

They weren’t shit, they were cars from the 60’s and 70’s. Cars back then weren’t as well made as today, that’s especially true for Italian cars. Those cars were more about being pieces of jewelry or art rather than a mass produced machine built for reliability. When Volkswagen bought Lamborghini in the late 90’s, they significantly improved the quality but at the cost of a part of their identity.
@Charlie-Charlot
@Charlie-Charlot 4 жыл бұрын
Prakrit Biswas I agree for both of your statements. Believe or not but my favorite Ferrari of all time isn’t the La Ferrari nor the 250 Gto, it’s the 348. Yes the poor man’s Ferrari. Maybe these cars appeal to me because I’m also in my early twenties but I really believe they’re worth it. And yes Volkswagen made the Lamborghini brand looks kinda bland imo. They’re overly aggressive and fast I got it, but in the same way I don’t really care for these cars.
@Charlie-Charlot
@Charlie-Charlot 4 жыл бұрын
Prakrit Biswas I can’t agree more, although there’s definitely a marketing reason to start making hybrid hypercars, it also nullifies most of the things that make a supercar/ hypercar interesting and exciting. Since the 488, I just don’t care anymore about these cars. I would rather own an older supercar rather than these ones. That being said, I recently drove a 458 and it was pretty disappointing to be fair. It wasn’t as raw and connected to the road as I thought I would be. Also, am I the only person that thinks most of the cars now kinda look childish and way too aggressive looking ? They look like toys.
@Charlie-Charlot
@Charlie-Charlot 4 жыл бұрын
Prakrit Biswas I think the mid 2000’s up to 2014-15 were the last few years of great looking cars. The race to efficiency is sure important but it’s useless for any high performance car. I would rather own a Caterham or built a project car these days than owning a modern sport car.

My Dad had a Mustang II (but not a King Cobra) for a very short time... Being an accountant and a member of The Greatest Generation, a car was strictly a device with which to get from Point A to Point B. But even HE hated it so much he traded it in within about two months... Braking, acceleration and handling were all horrible, as was the overall manufacturing quality.

The presenter needs to do his homework. That is not the engine sound, it’s the “tron” sound coming from speakers where the exhaust pipes usually are mounted. It’s emitted to warn pedestrians, especially blind people at low speeds. Almost every new electric car coming out has a similar or copied sound.

Item one. When the Lamborghini Countach first appeared, it had a single uninterrupted curved roofline, which was Marcello Gandini's intention from the start. To see what he was thinking, look up the Lancia Stratos Zero concept car, which pioneered this single-curve roofline, and the Alfa Romeo Carabo, which is possibly the apotheosis of his "spaceship wedge" era, and whose doors became an iconic part of the Countach's outlandishness. :) Unfortunately, one of the reasons the car isn't as aerodynamic as you would think, is because the front end is WIDE. It presents a large frontal area to the oncoming airstream, which pretty much tosses the drag coefficient into the bin. You can also factor in that the original body style didn't exactly help much with keeping a big V12 cool, which is why the scoops and slats and other accoutrements put in an appearance on later models. Item two. The Vector W8 can be summed up in one word - *overreach* . The W8 was an attempt to build a Bugatti Veyron two decades before the technology existed to realise the vision, and without the colossal financial input Volkswagen could throw at the Veyron project. It's actually a testament to the skill of Weigert and his team, that they achieved what they did with the shoestring budget at their disposal. Yes, there are aspects of the car that are ludicrous, such as having a three-speed auto transmission in a car that *should* have had a five-speed manual, possibly with a sequential shifter to add to the "spaceship" aspect of the car, and the rear styling tells you where the money run out, though producing a *stylish* rear end that still provided efficient cooling for a twin turbo V8 would have eaten up a lot of money to develop. But you can't fault Weigert's dedication to his dream. By the way, if you want a cool car that's genuinely terrible, try the Brutus Bomber. A 1930s style single seat car powered by a Heinkel bomber engine, that spits flames out of the exhaust into your face when you start it up.

concerning the Mustang II, all cars were de-tuned not for the oil crisis but in spite of the oil crisis. They were de-tuned to pass the new emission standards, which also caused bad gas mileage. Fortunately car makers were able to overcome and now cars are built better than ever.

Just jerry-rig a turbo to it, problem solved. My 2000 VW "New" Beetle weighs in at about 2900lbs I think(the thing is built like a little tank, it's safer than a lot of larger cars-minus the horrible blind spots the A pillars cause) and has a 150hp turbocharged 1.8L engine and 5-spd manual....and will do 0-60mph almost 2 seconds faster than the DMC Delorean. It might actually reach 88mph in a large mall parking lot.

The DeLorean has a short list of parts such as the fuel pump, clutch line, and alternator that are cheap to replace that make it fun, reliable, safe, and economical. And the car weighs less than 2800 lb (1270 kg,) so the myth of the heavy stainless is nothing more than that.

Especially when it was supposed to have a V8 and then a powerful V6 and finally a downgraded PRV, not a bad engine but with poor reliability but at least powerful (for its time) even in its sedan versions (Renault 25, Peugeot 605, Citroen XM...), its power was 160-180hp and 270-300hp (Alpine, Safrane biturbo) and 400hp on the Venturi GT ... Why only 130 in the DMC 12 ? Fun, in BTTF, they had to create a fake dashboard because the original stopped at 85mph ... and use the engine noise of a Porsche 928.

Alright let’s have some fun. The DeLorean isn’t heavy at all. The whole “regulated to meet emissions standards” you just said for the king cobra was the same thing for the DeLorean (if you do some research before making a video, you’d see the European version of the cara produced around 210 horse power) and the same reason why it rides weird is because of the DOT forcing them to make it ride I believe 2 inches higher then designed. That was a last minute change they needed to make. And also they chose possibly the worst time ever to release a car because NO ONE was buying cars due to Economic problems in the early 80’s.

I had one years ago. Puke yellow and bought it for $300. It was a very reliable car, even if the power and handling were milk toast average. I expect if you rebuild one and modify the stock engine correctly, then it would be a tight little boulevard monster. I think there is a limit to what you can do with the body, but it would be a fun car to goof around in.

The Delorean DMC-12 isn't actually as bad as everyone paints it to be. It definitely easn't heavy, weighing only 1300kg (2700lbs). Yes, it didn't have amazing power, sitting at 170hp, but torque was better at about 210lb/ft. At least the engine was quite reliable, with the only weak link being something to do with the vaccuum. The engine was also very common and replacement parts are abundant.

The Maserati TC looks like the LeBaron because it was supposed to come out before the LeBaron. The goal was for the TC to be a halo car. People would see a TC, before the restyled LeBaron was released. They would then flock to dealerships and if they could afford a TC they'd buy one, if not they'd buy a Lebaron. Unfortunately, production problems delayed the car until AFTER the restyled LeBaron was released. Instead of seeing TCs and buying Lebarons, consumers saw the two cars next to each other and asked "Why should I buy a TC? It looks like a Lebaron, has the same drivetrain, two less seats, and it's more expensive than the LeBaron "

I don't understand why the mustang II gets so much hate, it practically saved the mustang. Also the chassis may have been from the pinto but it was so heavily modified that it basically was its own chassis, and the car was actually praised at the time for its handling so much so that a lot of mustang II's have been used for donor cars for their double wishbone front suspension on all kinds of ford hot rods and mustang restomods.
@Spamsmoothie1701
@Spamsmoothie1701 4 жыл бұрын
It's quite simple. While it was the right car at the right time, it doesn't precisely follow the Mustang formula. It's also a product of its time more than almost any other Mustang. It's association with the Pinto doesn't do its reputation any favors either. I think most importantly, it simply hasn't aged well. When looking at one you see everything wrong with the 1970's and nothing right about it. It's not the most hideous car ever made by a long shot, but it's pretty much the worst Mustang ever built.

The Vector W8 at the end is hella cool and not bad to drive especially compared to other exotic cars of the time. While Ferraris felt like you were riding a buckboard and if you could manage to fit in a Lamborghini it would actively try to kill you the W8 had a comfortable ride, handled well, was crazy fast and the cockpit (while very odd) was more than livable. Yes they’re super super quirky but that’s what makes them so cool. Definitely not a terrible car.
