That HelloTalk app is literally the best thing ever. I have been trying to teach myself Korean for the LONGEST TIME, and all I got out of my self-teaching was the alphabet, and some basic phrases. But I just downloaded the app and already I'm being connected with people who are teaching me Korean.

I'm using hello talk 😍 I even got to know a really nice Korean girl there and we are friends now 😊 she even sent me presents for my birthday 😱😍 I highly recommend the hello talk app, it's really useful. My favorite feature is that you can correct your partner's sentences so they directly see what they did wrong and how it's supposed to be. Another pretty cool app is 'learn korean', it's only available for android though 😭 you can record yourself saying sentences in Korean and the app will rate your pronunciation and accent. As for grammar, I'd recommend the 'poppopping Korean - conversation' app. It's really cute, it's like a cartoon. First there is a dialogue (with subs and other features where you can read everything slowly), then multiple choice questions and then you can record yourself answering a question with the grammar featured in the chapter.
@NahYeehaw9 жыл бұрын
For total beginners who are struggling with Hangul, I highly recommend 'poppopping Korean - pronunciation'. You can learn the alphabet, how the letters are pronounced (with animations showing how to move your mouth) and even how to form blocks. Where what kind of letter has to be in a block, how the pronunciation changes depending on how the letters are paired. EVERYTHING you need to know about Hangul! 👏🏼👏🏼
@karlabojic88729 жыл бұрын
+Oli Pop Thanks, this was very useful since I really want to learn korean :) And I'm wondering is there an option is HelloTalk where I can be 'the teacher'? Like, help somebody with their english?
@NahYeehaw9 жыл бұрын
Karla Boojic yeah, when You sign up you have to set your native language and the language you want to learn. Then you get matched up with people whose native language is the one you want to learn and who are learning your native language. Then you can teach them if they want to know anything 😊 you can add me: unicorn23

I love Daum, it's really easy to use because you don't actually have to know Korean (well a grasp of hangul would probably be good because it'll be hard to search for stuff otherwise!). I used it a lot when I went to Korea in April, and it has a great interface and, just as you said, it's just more aesthetically pleasing than Naver. Also Korea's transporting apps are absolutely amazing, I really wish we had a service like that in Sweden.

Moscow has subway app and bus app with all the same functions :) and we have two apps like Daum and Naver (Yandex Maps and 2GIS) that are better than Google and has fresher information. They are also showing the traffic jam and showing the shortest way to different locations (on foot, by car or by bus, you can choose) So I see a lot of common things with Korean useful apps :)

I just took a solo trip to Korea two weeks ago, and I can vouch from first hand experience that the Jihachul (Smarter Subway, if you can read and type Korean) is a lifesaver! Also, I did end up using a lot of GoogleMaps, because my Naver Maps wasn't really cooperating with me. I found that as long as I had the address and it showed up on the map, I could figure my way out and walk to the destination just by using GoogleMaps as a compass. Google Translate is also a lifesaver (You can predownload the Korean package through WiFi, and even be able to use it offline!)

The BEST app for learning the Korean alphabet is "TenguGo Hangul" I learned so quickly from this. It teaches you consonants or vowels in different chapters and after you're confident enough after each chapter it quizzes you on what you just learned.

Me and my GF are quite fond of korean movies (one of my favourite movies of all time being "New World") and last time we've been watching "a man from nowhere", movie about retired secret agent who's trying to save a child from kidnappers. There were some scenes that made us wonder about child services, orphans situation and social security in Korea all-around. Thanks for an answer and keep up the good work. Also Simon good luck with learning Polish, i'm Pole myself and would be proud to help but i'm not a teacher and i'm afraid that Polish grammar would be too complicated for me to teach someone :D.
