Neutral is okay, but for better dynamic range, Cinestyle is an upgrade, but to maximize this camera's potential, consider James Miller's or Andrew Reid's C-log. In my opinion, they are well worth the cost (one time purchase and relatively inexpensive - around $25 I think). You'll need to download Canon's EOS utility to load them into your camera. Once you have your log picture profile, you can download a c-log to Rec709 lut to bring your picture up to standard, from there you can apply any other lut you want. Don't know if anyone will see this comment, but hopefully it helps someone. Thanks for the upload Crowley.
@TheCrowleyCrew4 жыл бұрын
I have looked at the Miller and Reid C-Logs. The shadows seem a bit muddy compared to Cinestyle, @Nigel_Barros did a great video on them, I have a video on Cinestyle and another on 3 free flat profiles. I use Cinestyle when I want the more dynamic range, but I don’t usually color grade so using the neutral allows me to upload straight out of camera.
@sandboxaperture70134 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrowleyCrew Thats funny, I actually watched the Nigel Barros video too. lol. I agree he did a great job explaining the differences between all of these. I think you make a very valid point about the shadows getting muddy at times. i think that It seems to almost be scene specific though. I think all three (neutral, cinestyle and c-log) can be more effective than one another at times. Thanks for posting this video, as a fellow Canon M50 user, your content is definitely valued. As a fellow M50 user I don't have much to add to this, I tend to shoot my video in 59.94 fps because I have two Canon HF R800 video cameras that I use for second and third angle cameras but they don't allow me to change their frame rate to anything other than 59.94 fps so to keep continuity in my videos I match my M50 to the two video cameras unless I'm shooting with the single-camera M50 for the entire video. That being said, today I purchased the EF-M 22mm lens which is my fifth lens for the M50, I have one more (EF-S 55-250) left to purchase to complete (I think) my stable of lenses, then I may purchase a second M50 for a second angle if I choose to do one. I love my M50.

Great vid here. So much useful information. I do (somewhat) disagree with one setting. I’ve been using auto sound with the attenuator turned on. In a run and gun situation (at least what I’ve noticed) it works very very well. As long as your speaking with conviction (talking normally or even whispering, just don’t mumble), the sound gets picked up very well and when not talking it’s pretty much silent. I use an Edutige ETM-001 to kind of capture sound all around me (for my hiking videos). I’ve implemented that setting method with that mic on both the M50 and EOS R with great success. Keep up the great work. You’ve helped me and so many others with your videos. Greatly appreciated.

Continuously loving your educational videos. I've been using the M50 since the beginning of this year and still love it. One thing I tried recently was to record in 1080p, but increase the size by 200x in post to export in 4k. Since KZbin has a higher compression threshold for 4k vs 1080p, the video looks way cleaner and crisper on YT playback compared to a native upload of 1080p. Aside from that, I also exported out in 3840x1080 vs 3840x1920 for a more cinematic viewing experience on mobile compared to artificial letterboxing done in post. Comparing my uploads from before to now using these tricks make things look like they're coming from another camera entirely, and not a $500 dslr. You should try it!
@TheCrowleyCrew5 жыл бұрын
I have thought of doing that, but I use a mobile hotspot on my phone for uploads and the 4x file size would take a ton of data.

Hoping you can answer a question for me. Been watching a lot of your videos and you are awesome. You say that you're pretty much always in manual mode, but your shots are also generally in the same scene / lighting as though you've done some planning ahead. So my question is, how do you handle a situation in which you're walking between different scenes / lighting? Would you adjust those manual settings on the fly or possibly make an exception for the M50's automatic mode? In other words, what if you're approaching the video from more of an on-the-go live vlogging style rather than from a fix-it-in-post filmmaking style? Hope that makes sense lol.
@MeAndMyOpinions_OverYours5 жыл бұрын
Fix the aperture and shutter, they usually stay constant anyway. then all you have to do is change the ISO within a given scene....unless it's really drastic.anyways, ISO Which is easier since you can use the mult fn button and dial combo to make adjustments on the fly.

I don’t think you can set different settings.

Great video. Do you tweak the video at all in post? Or mostly just use the video straight out of camera.

Pretty much straight out of camera.

Really great explanation. Best video i found on setting up the camera and explaining the iso etc my mind was blown . Quick question.. i film myself spraying and working. I would like to make some scenes into slowmo. So should i still be filming in 24fps or in 60fps? I thought i needed to be in 60fps if i wanted to slow down smoothly? Thanks

Gr8! Love what you are doing with the m50 vs using 10 different cameras for every possible situation or the camera-of-the-week. You are cabinet installer. I like the sawhorses at 1:30 for the table saw - low and stable. Your experience with the M1? M5 and now m50 means you have built on this foundation and really refined the capabilities. I'm ready to buy the m50!

Thank you. Really I love playing with new tech, but I cannot justify buying a bunch of stuff because I am a normal person. I think that is one thing I now really like. I never plan to be a camera/gear review channel.

Use fast lens with Low aperture, keep iso under 800, fix white balance. And provide plenty of light in the room or area(obviously).

You can try a m2 adapter or speedbooster and use fast EFs lenses/ EF lenses
