Neutral is okay, but for better dynamic range, Cinestyle is an upgrade, but to maximize this camera's potential, consider James Miller's or Andrew Reid's C-log. In my opinion, they are well worth the cost (one time purchase and relatively inexpensive - around $25 I think). You'll need to download Canon's EOS utility to load them into your camera. Once you have your log picture profile, you can download a c-log to Rec709 lut to bring your picture up to standard, from there you can apply any other lut you want. Don't know if anyone will see this comment, but hopefully it helps someone. Thanks for the upload Crowley.
@TheCrowleyCrew4 жыл бұрын
I have looked at the Miller and Reid C-Logs. The shadows seem a bit muddy compared to Cinestyle, @Nigel_Barros did a great video on them, I have a video on Cinestyle and another on 3 free flat profiles. I use Cinestyle when I want the more dynamic range, but I don’t usually color grade so using the neutral allows me to upload straight out of camera.
@sandboxaperture70134 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrowleyCrew Thats funny, I actually watched the Nigel Barros video too. lol. I agree he did a great job explaining the differences between all of these. I think you make a very valid point about the shadows getting muddy at times. i think that It seems to almost be scene specific though. Question. I got the M50 and I LOVE IT. I rigged it out with smallrig cage etc. I'm want to get a 2nd camera to have two angles. What camera should I get? The M50 is my first and I love it. I'm debating between the 90D, the RP, or M6 Mii. What would you do honestly. Should I stay mirrorless, with the RP or M6 Mii. Or go for the 90D to have both dslr and M50. I know the 90D and M6 Mii are similar, I don't like the M6 flip up screen. But it wouldn't matter since I have m50. But 90D and RP both have articulating screens. Also I have EF lenses, and adapter. So 90D takes them, M6 takes same adapters I'm using. Or I could get RP with it's ef-rf adapter. What would choose really. What would you add to your M50

You might want to see what canon will release with the M50 MK2. The rumors say it may have IBIS. As for those three I really don’t know. I haven’t used any of them yet, but I would probably not get the Eos RP since it is the only one without AF in 4K.

As a fellow M50 user I don't have much to add to this, I tend to shoot my video in 59.94 fps because I have two Canon HF R800 video cameras that I use for second and third angle cameras but they don't allow me to change their frame rate to anything other than 59.94 fps so to keep continuity in my videos I match my M50 to the two video cameras unless I'm shooting with the single-camera M50 for the entire video. That being said, today I purchased the EF-M 22mm lens which is my fifth lens for the M50, I have one more (EF-S 55-250) left to purchase to complete (I think) my stable of lenses, then I may purchase a second M50 for a second angle if I choose to do one. I love my M50.

Continuously loving your educational videos. I've been using the M50 since the beginning of this year and still love it. One thing I tried recently was to record in 1080p, but increase the size by 200x in post to export in 4k. Since KZbin has a higher compression threshold for 4k vs 1080p, the video looks way cleaner and crisper on YT playback compared to a native upload of 1080p. Aside from that, I also exported out in 3840x1080 vs 3840x1920 for a more cinematic viewing experience on mobile compared to artificial letterboxing done in post. Comparing my uploads from before to now using these tricks make things look like they're coming from another camera entirely, and not a $500 dslr. You should try it!

I have thought of doing that, but I use a mobile hotspot on my phone for uploads and the 4x file size would take a ton of data.

Great vid here. So much useful information. I do (somewhat) disagree with one setting. I’ve been using auto sound with the attenuator turned on. In a run and gun situation (at least what I’ve noticed) it works very very well. As long as your speaking with conviction (talking normally or even whispering, just don’t mumble), the sound gets picked up very well and when not talking it’s pretty much silent. I use an Edutige ETM-001 to kind of capture sound all around me (for my hiking videos). I’ve implemented that setting method with that mic on both the M50 and EOS R with great success. Keep up the great work. You’ve helped me and so many others with your videos. Greatly appreciated.

Hoping you can answer a question for me. Been watching a lot of your videos and you are awesome. You say that you're pretty much always in manual mode, but your shots are also generally in the same scene / lighting as though you've done some planning ahead. So my question is, how do you handle a situation in which you're walking between different scenes / lighting? Would you adjust those manual settings on the fly or possibly make an exception for the M50's automatic mode? In other words, what if you're approaching the video from more of an on-the-go live vlogging style rather than from a fix-it-in-post filmmaking style? Hope that makes sense lol.

Fix the aperture and shutter, they usually stay constant anyway. then all you have to do is change the ISO within a given scene....unless it's really drastic.anyways, ISO Which is easier since you can use the mult fn button and dial combo to make adjustments on the fly.

I am going to make a video on an auto exposure hack, where basically you can leave your ISO on auto and change your other settings to stay constant. It is hard to explain in text but keep an eye out for that video.

In general though I just do some cut scenes to switch locations so I don’t need to worry about it.

@@TheCrowleyCrew awesome, looking forward to it. I did see an option to set maximum ISO, but unless I missed something it wouldn't let me set it below 6400...
@MeAndMyOpinions_OverYours5 жыл бұрын
@@inboudayo the only reason I dont do auto is bcc I shoot mostly low light. But yeah auto iso works. I think just swipe all the way to the right past iso 100 and it sets it to auto while everything else stays the same.

Can we use this camera as professional camera for photography & cinamatography/videography.Can we use third party flashes and light triggers(godox light trigger's) on this camera.

Ask Zdenka Darula here on KZbin about photos. She is a professional photographer and uses the M50 extensively.

Are you a cabinet installer or maker? I'm a cabinet maker. Just starting to learn to shoot videos of my work with my M50.

Job, thanks so much for these videos. I've purchased two m50s because of you! One for work and one for our church's live stream bible studies. I'm learning a ton from you and looks forward to more. God bless you and your family as you walk through your daughter's care together. P.s. - I noticed those sweet lightsabers in the background. Anakin, Luke, and Vader?

Excellent overview! I still need to get used to using manual mode settings for shutter speed, etc. For the style of videos I've been doing, having too much motion blur is more noticeable than I'd like. Looking forward to the histogram video.

Thanks! I really need to make that one!

Maybe you answered this before, but where to get your music from. Do you recommend Epidemic Sound or one of the other resources?

I use Epidemic. I would recommend it.

Thanks so much for this great video. I'm in the UK and I had my M50 set to NTCS. I didn't even know what that meant, so you've taught me something new.

Gr8! Love what you are doing with the m50 vs using 10 different cameras for every possible situation or the camera-of-the-week. You are cabinet installer. I like the sawhorses at 1:30 for the table saw - low and stable. Your experience with the M1? M5 and now m50 means you have built on this foundation and really refined the capabilities. I'm ready to buy the m50!

Thank you. Really I love playing with new tech, but I cannot justify buying a bunch of stuff because I am a normal person. I think that is one thing I now really like. I never plan to be a camera/gear review channel.

The only problem I figure I will have with this, is that with vlogging, I would eventually have to change my ISO with every setting that I change to, right? Because with vlogging, we move around a lot & I would hate to have to do this all the time loll. Your lighting seems to be very consistent, HOW!
@TheCrowleyCrew4 жыл бұрын
I do recommend practicing so that you can change settings without looking at them, but when I’m outside using a variable ND filter is the fastest and easiest way to change exposure. For inside I do usually use the ISO to change it and trip to do travel shots if I am going into different areas that have different light.
@LoveAlexx4 жыл бұрын
The Crowley Crew nice! & where can I get an ND filter? I would like to see how that works! Thank you! xx

Hi Job. I’m officially now team #M50 got mine today. I ordered the camera and the speed booster from your links because I value you as a creator and I wanted to be able to contribute to you financially because you deserve it. Plus your video looks so much better than other channels that have the same camera. I’m going to follow your settings to a T because you make it look so good.

I have seen a few videos about picture profiles and to me the Portrait profile looks nice, but is there a particular reason you don't use it? I'm asking because I'm a Fujifilm user looking to get an M6/M100 as a travel b-cam.

Do you have a lighting equipment while filming 13:38 onwards? Your video quality looks so crisp and sharp with so much depth. I have poor lighting in my room and I want to achieve the quality you have.
