Yeah, reminds me of the brief period I owned a '91 GSX-R 250. I'm 5'8, but that pocket rocket was obviously designed for the Japanese domestic market. Riding with a straight back was pretty much impossible. There was a lot of weight put on the wrists as well. Above 60, the headwind would start to support the upper body, but at that point, you would also be at about 10K rpm because of the gearing and the 17K redline. Definitely not a bike for introverts...

Countersteeting is is something momentary you do in order to lean your bike, and it’s such a small movement it’s barely noticeable when watching
@lucascarracedo7421
@lucascarracedo7421 2 ай бұрын
Exactly. I think that's where some people fail to notice it, as countersteering doesn't trigger the turning by itself but induces a lean by unbalancing the bike. Said lean allows the wheel to fall into place and the actual turning happens. But for all intents and purposes, you are always countersteering to get the bike to turn.

In Denmark, Counter-steering is taught not only for cornering, but as an Evasive maneuver! Smack the handlebar with your hand on the side you wish to lean towards.. This will as was Explained in the Video, force the front wheel to diviate from the Center of gravity and lean the bike hard! Very useful maneuver for avoiding critters like Peacocks and car-drivers!

One thing that should be mentioned that track racing people would know well, the line you take through the corner determines where you'll naturally exit the corner. Turning in early will have you exiting tight on the inside and exiting late might take you into oncoming traffic or off the road. It can be hard for new riders to make that on the fly decision about the corner and even harder to adjust speed and angle mid way. Always ride within your abilities, last thing you want to do is run out of skill.
@AtomicTankGaming
@AtomicTankGaming 2 ай бұрын
fun fact, motorcycles ALWAYS counter-steer no matter what and slow speed does not change a damn thing. When your at a stop turning right try to take off with the bars turned to the left. The bike will force you to lean right and turn right even through your handle bars are pointing left... Bike lean angle controls turning direction and tighness, steering controls lean angle. There is no other mechanic at play here...
@AtomicTankGaming
@AtomicTankGaming 2 ай бұрын
@@m00sing If you want to make a sharp left turn from being completely stopped, lock your handle bars on the opposite direction aka right and try to accelerate. The bike will initially try to turn right due to the wheel being pointed right, however the bike will very quickly fall to the left and almost force your body/handlebars to turn left. Essentially you have to understand how a bike actually turns for it to make sense... If you watch fortnine's video on having flat bike tires, you will see that the bike is unable to turn at all. This is because all turning comes from the fact that the center of the tire is a larger diameter than the edge of the tire. In other words when leaning, the tire is moving faster on the "outside" VS "inside". You can see this effect with tapered bottle caps rolling on a table. So the handle bars of a bike literally do nothing other than force your bike to lean left or right. The faster you go the more you can see this effect, which is why people say it doesn't exist at slow speeds, which is completely false.

While dry weather driving the painted lines have less friction, so should be avoided when traction matters, but under wet conditions, the painted lines can be real death traps and should be avoided at all times, even when driving straight you can suddenly loose traction. Traversing them as straight on as possible, the shortest distance possible is very important on wet conditions. (The same goes for tramway and rai crossings.)

People overthink riding in the wet. Just reduce your inputs and increase your following distance by 30%, you're good to go. There is increased danger if somebody crosses at 90 degrees but normally it is overcast and your headlight stands out more, making you more visible. It really isn't a thing. Safe riding.

ABS is fantastic in an emergency as it really works but not having it just focuses the mind a bit more about your speed and distance from other vehicles. After years of riding bikes with standard brakes, the company got a couple of Honda CB500's with ABS and they just felt the same as any other brake until someone came through a give way dead in front of me. BRAKE...... tack-tack-tack-tack and the bike just stopped beautifully, no slide or skid as I'd expected. As my old boss used to say.... Keep it between the hedges!

Just keep at it. I was this way at the start and slowed WAY down to make turns. Ride your own ride and dont worry if you are a bit slow. Keep doing that until you get more and more comfortable. This will eventually lead to faster turns with greater lean angles. Another thing that can help is find some roads near you that are windy and ride them a lot. By learning the road over time you will start to "know" it. Once that happens, you can take the unknowns out of the equation and you can start doing them incrementally faster. Even finding one good curve that you can repeatedly run isa choice you can make. Basically, its just practice. Do it 10,000 times and you will be a pro.

I think the issue with the whole "countersteering" topic is that most people explain it badly and therefore confuse new riders. I found this one also to be a bit inaccurate so allow me to add to it. One doesn't "turn left to go right". We need to differentiate between applying force to the handle bar and handlebar movement (turning). For example: Pushing the handlebars on the left (if no other forces apply) turns the handlebars to the right. Doing this in a straight line makes the bike tilt to the left. So the handlebar only momentarily and very slightly turns to the right while the resulting left tilt immediately applies a force that turns the handlebars to the left again. Throughout the whole turn the rider has to push the bar on the left to keep the turn going and releasing the pressure make the bike reduce the tilt angle and go straight again. However, the handlebars are (of course) slightly turned to the left throughout the whole turn (how much depends on turning radius tilt of the bike and other aspects). What may seem unintuitive, is that the bike itself applies a force to the handlebar (or rather the front wheel) that makes the handelbar turn INTO the direction your turning. This force however (similar to the rider applying a force to initiate a turn) will immediately cause a force in the opposite direction, reducing tilt and straightening out the wheel if not countered by the rider. So in a turn what a rider really is doing is preventing the motorcycle from going straight, as that is what it does automatically.

rear brake is very important when in an emergency and should always be considered when stopping. Sure you fronts do the majority of the work, but... the rear brake can help with 2 things. 1 it can help set and stabilize the front of the bike while preloading the front some. 2. it can improve the performance of the front brake as the weight has already started to compress the front shock (preloading it). The trick is to use is carefully and gently. A little rear brake helping the majority of front braking will dramatically decrease your stopping distance. Go to a parking lot and try it. Just dont lock it up... if you do release immediately and reapply gently. You certainly dont want to hard brake with jerky action on the rear then just hold it. Good way to highside and have a very very bad day.

Here's a question for you @Yammie Noob... How the hell do experienced Riders notice another rider when the other rider is driving a car? Today for example I was stuck in traffic, and there was an annoying Island next to me (it's to stop cars from just driving up the Flush Median) I heard a bike coming, and turned my wheels fairly sharp and pulled away from the Island to give him more room. He just did the thumbs up to say thankyou, but the Rider close behind did the "I'm holding my cigarette" wave. Did he see the nice warm but slightly uncomfortable jacket I was wearing? and further up the road, a Black Yamaha pulled up to the end of his driveway, Yes I looked at it, and slowed right down so he could pull out in front of me if he wanted to. but he too showed me he was holding his cigarette and went up the flush median. Once on the Motorway (which I refuse to try and ride on at this time of day, hence the car) I was passed by a few more Motorcyclists who also waved to me... What The F is happening? How do they know?

I am of the opinion that all new motorcycle riders should have to ride a road bicycle (kind with 700c wheels) for at least a 6 months daily before being allowed to buy a motorcycle. Almost everyone of these things will basically become intuitive instead of being a life ending mistake.

Then from the bicycle to a scooter, then a bike. 🤙

@@NoFrictionZone Agreed, but I am not sure how many people would decide to ride a regular motorcycle after riding a scooter. Usually, it's the other way around. lol

@@ariesmarsexpress that was actually my progression lol. If I didn't get a Vespa I would have never gotten into riding. Luckily I have both. 🤙

I have a question, what does better tire grip do for a sport bike? I know it sounds silly but hear me out. The way I see it either you have traction or you don’t, so all that a better tire does is prevent that traction from breaking better than an old tire would right?

Please learn to brake with four fingers. If you need to do emergency braking and you have two fingers between the lever and the bar you might not be able to get enough braking force.

Something that gets people killed, is not having every single one of these skills mastered before getting on the road. If you can’t do everything in this video, and ride a motorcycle on the street, you’re asking to die. Much better to learn on a dirtbike or pit bike, then get a real motorcycle
