personally, the saddest moment in the movie, was when newt was screaming "don't hurt them ". and for someone who knows what its like to have a beloved pet taken away. I almost cried.

I know, I really felt that part! It's hard to pick the saddest part of this movie, though--there were a few tearjerkers in it. Also awful was when he almost traded Pickett to the speakeasy goblin, and that execution scene. Of course, the latter was more creepy and haunting than sad. But yeah, you can just feel that connection Newt has with his animals and it makes you so worried for them in that part, and for him!

Because Hagrid was expelled before completing year 5 at Hogwarts. That's when they take their OWLs, an examination qualifying them to do magic outside of school and can therefore keep their wand if they are expelled after, which is likely what happened to Newt. Also, the Weasley-twins left school in their 7th year not having to turn in their wands. Because they had also passed their OWLs. So, year 6 and 7 is more like an advanced level education but not necessary to be allowed to carry a wand.

I think it could be partly due to racism, Hagrid being related to giants as well as wizards so he could attend Hogwarts because of his wizard blood but when hes expelled he loses the privileges of a wizard and therefore is mot allowed a wand and is classed as a giant instead of a wizard

I have a theory on why Hagrid had a harsher punishment. Racism. We already know from Madam Maxine's reaction in book 4 when Hagrid asks if she's part giant, that being part giant, part wizard is quite shameful. And many ministry wizards have already expressed dislike for him. A ministry wizard very well may have taken the opportunity of Hagrid's expulsion to try and completely rid the world of Hagrid the wizard. But we know that newt's brother is a Great War hero, and I'm going to guess a pretty good wizard. Therefore when he was expelled, he got a lighter punishment. He was from a good family, and a 'full' wizard. This also wouldn't be the first time JK Rowling discussed race and discrimination in Harry Potter. This theme is easily visible with the whole mud blood vs. pore blood situation. Let me know if I have any of these facts wrong or if you agree with this theory. I just came up with it while watching the video. Thanks!

Fiona Macke I think that's a great theory! But I also think that maybe it had to do with the fact that Hagrid was also accused of his beast accidentally killing someone and Newt's only endangered someone

I agree with Hagrid being part giant and Newt being a "full" wizard playing a role. I also think that difference between when the Hagrid and Newt incidents took place plays a part. Hagrids was when the school was very much on edge, a girl had just been killed, so when Hagrid's creature was found it was assumed that it caused the damage leaving Hagrid with the blame hence the broken wand. What happened with Newt on the other hand likely was during a "normal" year for the school and it's more likely no one died, we can't say for sure though however judging by the fact Newt still has his wand this is more likely..

I think maybe Newt was already of age when he was expelled, so already qualified. Or "qualified" because he had passed his OWL's, and therefore could keep the wand. Hagrid was 13, and Harry was 12 and 14 when under threat of it. I don't know how old Next was, but that's my theory.

Our theory: Ariana Dumbledore was an obscurus! she suppressed her powers after the muggle boys bullied her. she is described as unstable with her powers 'bursting out of her' when she was upset- in one of these episodes she killed her mother. and this also explains why Grindlewald was looking for one in fantastic beasts because in his and albus's duel against Aberforth . she again is ''set off'' by the spells they are all casting- and here grindlewald sees the power of an obscurus and remembers it when creating his plan for exposing the wizards to the muggles- it might even be for this reason that he goes to America because that is to the best of our knowledge the place where witches and wizards were most prosecuted and therefore the most likely place to find a muggle borne wizard suppressing his powers out of fear.

People within their houses forgot most likely because during the time in the 1920s New York had water towers on top of each building and we still do today on some of our buildings these water towers are used to catch Rainwater so it may be used.

They showed lots of people, such as the bank manager, drinking their coffee, taking showers, and otherwise coming into contact with water. With heavy rain like they showed, even the humidity would be increased quite a bit, meaning water would sneak in through cracks and vents everywhere to be breathed in by every living person.

Now that you mention it, it did seem BLATANTLY obvious to me that Creedence looked just like Tom Riddle... Like they RRREEEEAALLY went out of their way there to give him the same pale skin, same pitch black hair, same haircut, cast an actor with the same thin eyes and gaunt face... And it would also explain why he was powerful enough to not only survive the obscurus, but learn to control it. (EDIT: this comment is saying he's RELATED to Tom Riddle through the Ilvermorny founder, not that he IS Tom Riddle.)

Well he definitely isn't Tom Riddle because Riddle was born the same year the events of the film took place. He is related to Riddle in that the are both descended from Slytherin which may explain his unusual power.

HUGE UNANSWERED QUESTION YOU MISSED!! Why the hell wasn't Credence collected to go to Illvermorny?!?! Dumbledore went to go get Tom Riddle and Hermione had a representative come and tell her. You don't just get a letter to tell you to show up at hogwarts. There's clearly a process for entering these individuals coming from non-magical homes into the wizarding world. Leaves the question why didn't anyone come for Credence?!? Does MACUSA have weird policies around muggle-born wizards/un-registered magical babies because it's hinted Crendences mother was possibly a witch. So WTF. I can see that MACUSA would have hang ups about muggle borns because of their statute of secrecy stuff but it seems incredibly irresponsible and directly against that statute to not keep tabs on all magical kids regardless of parentage. THIS TO ME IS A HUGE HOLE NO ONE SEEMS TO TALK ABOUT!!! PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO.

There are two other things about Jacob's memory, first, he was the last person to be rained on. It's possible that the venom was too diluted to fully wipe his memories at that point. Second, Queeny used her wand-umbrella a few moments in, maybe she blocked the full necessary dosage?

I have a theory on Mary Lou! I think she adopts wizard children on purpose so they purposely hide their magic, etc. etc., and therefore less trouble on her witch extermination part. Well, we already know that Credence, and his sister have magical origins... what if the other kids also do have magical backgrounds, and Mary Lou was gathering them together so she could control them into submission against the wizarding world?... She may even know something about the kids dying early in their childhood when the Obscurus takes complete control over them, which is why she is angry with Credence. Tina does mention that Mary Lou hits all the children she takes in, and hates Credence the most... maybe because he hasn't died yet, despite her expectations??

When Kowalski walks out into the rain he says "It's just like waking up, right?" So I think that the things he is making are from what was like a dream to him as he "woke up". So when he sees Queeny he remembers her from his "dream" and that is why he brings his hand up to his neck. (More evidence would be that Kowalski probably would have shown some form of recognition to Newt.) The other way this could have happened is when Queeny protected him with the umbrella and kissed him she could have also messed up the rain thing and maybe while the rain was hitting him and getting rid of his memory the umbrella kept just a sliver where if he sees a prompt he may just be able to remember a bit of his adventure. Not only that but when someone asks how he came up with his ideas he actually couldn't explain how and his response was "They just come miss." Personally, I like the first one better but I got carried away and put the second one in.

That was my thought too. Newt had parents to stick up for him- a family name and probably some money. Hagrid doesn't seem like he was the best student, there must have been rumors about his mother, and his father was dead. On the other hand, Hagrid animal did (supposedly) kill some people.

I think that the discrimination could be a major factor but from another point, do we know when he was expelled? What if he had already got his O.W.L.s and was expelled when studying N.E.W.T.s? Maybe then he is already a qualified wizard and was just refused further study at Hogwarts.

the blue bug was a billywig, they're native to Australia and they're fast enough that they are rarely noticed by muggles, the sting makes you levitate too :) I think he probably didn't catch it because it was just an insect and it was causing any trouble, plus it would be way too hard to track.

I think the reason why Hagrid's wand was taken away and Newt's wand wasn't, was simply because Hagrid was a half giant. I know it sounds kinda racist, but tbh, many wizards are kinda dicks to other races. I mean, Lupin wasn't almost able to even go to school simply because he was a werewolf. So yeah, that's my guess.

Krataus Ahma - Absolutely. +Erica Collins Hagrid was expelled and had his wand broken as a teen. LONG BEFORE (like 40 years) he was taken to Azkaban. JKR specifically stated in an interview that the next 5 movies were going to be used to show some of the injustices in our world. Hagrid was a nobody half giant minority. Newt comes from a good family, likely (but I don't actually know), a pure blood. So they just expelled him he was already in his last years he would still be able to get a good ministry job.

For number 6, Grindelwald was so powerful (maybe even more than Voldermort) that he maybe did a powerful polyjuice potion, so powerful he didn't need to worry about it all day. To hide suspiction, he maybe drank the potion when he was alone. Remember that Newt used "Revelio" to reveal his true face (incantion used exactly for this potion). Percival Graves also, couldn't be a created character by Grindelwald, since Percival actually existed, was born in the US and is part of the Graves family, one of the 12 original Aurors families of America. Regarding Newt, he was actually expelled from Hogwarts by taking the responsability from a mistake made by Leta. For it's humble, Dumbledore made him fond of Newt. Also, maybe the Magical Laws changed after Grindelwald. Before him, there wasn't a lot of dark magic... except you know, Obscurials... but regarding the magical laws about wands, they may have changed between Newt's and Hagrid's time because of Grindelwald. One last thing, Credence is actually confirmed to be in the next movie alongside Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Regarding his past, there is a powerful theory that his family moved to the US escaping from persecution, and that he is (as you said) descendent of Salazar Slytherin. Maybe Ariana was a obscurial? Maybe is the obscurial Newt have (since the host is dead)? Who knows...

(Sorry for long post)I saw it in another video made by the author of this video, and in many comments. But I don't have a tangible source, so it's not as powerful as I thought /: even though... it make sense. So, to make it simple, if Credence had the Slytherin heritage and living in the US, it would be Martha (the daughter of Isolt Sayre - descendant of Slytherin and Animagus Morrigan). In the last Pottermore update, Martha left the wizarding world, for being an squib and feeling uncomfortable, married a no-maj and lived as one for the rest of her life. The rest of the descendants of Isolt (the other twin daughter and the adoptive sons) would have had magicians in the wizarding world, but Credence is not in such world.Grindelwald felt a disturbance in the magic (kinda bad quote sorry), and went to New York to find out that the Obscurial was Credence. Now, he was the only known Obscurial to live so long, and for that he needs a lot of power that only a powerful wizard could have. In the other hand we know that Credence has a lot of ambition, maybe a little humble for his sisters, but still very focused in getting to the wizarding world. In case of being a magician with European powerful heritage, it couldn't be Gryffindor (courage), nor Hufflepuff (humble), nor Ravenclaw (intellectual), and the last option is Slytherin, that actually fulfills his personality.So in conclusion, Credence, if this is true, could be descendent of Slytherin by being part of Martha heritage. Now, maybe Martha was an squib, but I haven't seen any theory against a squib having a child, if this is the case, so in fact Credence could have Salazar's blood.

In the original screenplay book for Fantastic Beasts it states this after Credence dies "Newt sees a tendiril of black matter, a small part of the Obscurus floating down through the roof. Unnoticed by anyone else, it eventually floats up and away, trying to reconnect with its host" maybe this is a hint at the Obscurus reconnecting with Credence and making an appereance in Fantastic Beast 2? Maybe by then he could have learnt how to control the obscurus and is hopefully on Newts side.

I don't think so because they probably would've mentioned that in the book if he was actually dead and was indeed going to heaven, Rowling probably wants to leave us to speculate about if he will be in the next movie and if she wanted to state that he was dead and not coming back she probably would have added that into the book, I mean whats the point of leaving everyone to guess if he is alive or not unless he makes a comeback in the next movie? also in a deleted scene for the movie Credence actually survives meaning that J.K Rowling probably wants him to have a role in the next movie.

Hey. So after rewatching some of fantastic beasts, (&hey thanks by the way. All your theory vids and unanswerable questions with the Harry Potter series really made me want to know more about the magical world in general.) I came across a few missing explanations for fantastic beasts. 1. What did Tina do to get fired from being an Auror at the beginning? 2. Why doesn’t Newt explain the animals to her when she asks, knowing he wants to educate the wizarding kind, but instead even invites Jacob INTO his case to meet a whole number of curious critters, all interacting with one another, which leads me to my next ? 3. How do we not learn or at least see more of these kinds of creatures in the Harry Potter books? By now they are using this book as a TEXT BOOK, meaning everything in that case is now in the book!! (I just want to know the names at etymology of these creatures!) 4. How are all these creatures able to live side by side, in completely different atmospheres and terrains? We only see one creature eat another, and it’s basically insects of the magical world. So what’s up with that? 5. Why, when they are about to kill Tina don’t they just use avada kedavra? 6. What the hell kinda water is that in the pool, basically magnifying her memories they take out? 7. If they only take out good memories, then how in the HECK is she able to see the vision of Credence and his “mother”? 8. And how are these “memories” able to change shape and show her more things when the fight breaks out? 9. Do they have dementors in America? (This one is because the lady that asks Newt which creature killed Shaw, they show a slightly Native American looking woman in very native looking clothing) 10. How many of the magical Natives integrated into the ready of wizarding culture, and if so, could these descendants be slightly more powerful or gifted in certain things (like legilimens) than the European wizards? Bonus question!! 🔆 If we pretend that everything that happened on our world happened along the same time line as non-magic history around the world, we may be able to decipher the differences in the relationships between magic and non-magical beings throughout time. For instance, the ancient Egyptians were aware and revered magic in their gods and nature, as is echoed all throughout our history, then how did wizards and witch’s behave knowing they’re power could technically make them gods by their belief? And in contrast, we know that there were people in early US history that never gave up believing in magic to try and get rid of it altogether. Breeding and rebreeding the fear of magic. But how did the wizards actually deal with this? All we know from Harry Potter is that during the Salem witch trials the witches would almost never die. But that doesn’t really make sense with wandlore being the mainly used way to release magic I. Europe, but not in America. What did these witches and wizards do to protect themselves and their kids from being found out. And in addition, how do you think this changed the relationship with black and white people during that whole turmoiled and ignorant history? The FIRST thing I thought when I saw the movie the first time was, Damn! They got it right almost 90 years before we did, and they did it BETTER!! (meaning they have not only a Africa American as their president but also A WOMAN!!! Makes me want to be part of their world even more!!) Hagrid was thought to have opened the chamber of secrets of which lead to Myrtle's death. That's why his wand was snapped. Although WE (and Dumbledore) know that Tom opened the chamber, the final conviction was Hagrid. He had intentionally 'murdered' someone. As far as I know, Newt was just careless with creatures.

It also might be an age thing. Wasn't Hagrid in his third year when he was kicked out? If Newt had passed his OWLs, maybe that meant he could keep his wand? (I don't know how old Newt was when he was kicked out, so this might not be a good explanation.)

sebrussell yeah, I'm pretty sure it's an age thing, they don't do their owls until 5th year so Newt had to be at least 16 because the OWLs are at the end of the year so it would have been in his 6th or 7th year and Harris was kicked out in his 3rd year, way before he could have taken his OWLs

Yeah I just saw that video too, however, in the eye of those who expelled him, he was careless with his creatures and led to the endangering of students. The theory is that because he was in love with Leta, he took the fall for her and she just moved on with her life or something. I still think it's more of a severity thing than anything else, for instance, even if you're of age, if you have to be sent to Azkaban, your wand is snapped. I don't think it's a racism thing due to the fact that the headmistress of Beaxbeaton's was also half giant right? If she could become the head of a prestigious wizarding school i should think racism wouldn't be so much of a bother anymore.

"Fantastic Beasts" seems like the best HP movie because the audience has no reference. Majority of the HP movies (such as, PoA GoF, HBP and DH) are all great movies. But some fans consider these movies awful because it didn't follow the books exactly. This is also why FB series will be amazing because we go in with no expectations.

There are already answers to two of these. The Fantastic Beasts script explains that both Newt and Leta were interested in magical creatures, and that Leta was actually the one who accidentally put other students in danger. But since she was his friend, Newt took the blame and was expelled in her place. This is why he feels sort of bitter about Leta, and possibly also why Dumbledore was so strongly against him being expelled. Also, Credence did survive. Obscuri don't move from one wizard to another, new Obscuri come into existence when wizards repress their magical powers. As for Newt getting to keep his wand and even being allowed to work at the Ministry of Magic, couldn't it have been some kind of racism? A lot of people are prejudiced towards Hagrid for being a potentially dangerous half-giant, so maybe that's why the Ministry decided to break his wand. Perhaps that isn't standard practice for when a wizard is expelled, and Hagrid was only led to believe so because they didn't want to reveal they were worried about his heritage. My dad has a theory that newt was able to keep his wand and learn magic after being expelled by being home schooled by his mother. That is how he believes a lot of his love for magical creatures formed or at least strengthened, because his mom breaded hippogriphs. Also, fun fact, both Newt and Hagrid were expelled for things they didn't do.

Can you talk about how Dumbledore's sister, Ariana, could have been an Obscurial. Ariana died before the end of the 19th century, meaning she was already dead before the events of Fantastic Beasts - and Grindelwald would know all about the immense power of Obscurials and potentially want to harness one. If you're ~sceptical~ because Ariana was older than 10 when she died, read how Aberforth described her power to Harry, Ron, and Hermione in Deathly Hallows: "She wouldn't use magic, but she couldn't get rid of it; it turned inward and drove her mad, it exploded out of her when she couldn't control it, and at times she was strange and dangerous." Idk man saw this theory and I think it would be pretty awesome if you explained it or just tell ur thoughts on it.

The timeline is that in 1899, Ariana was killed either by Albus, Aberforth, or Geller when Gellert and Dumbledore decided to part ways. My theory is that Grindelwald had thought all along to use an obscurus to terrorize the non-magical communities. He would have known Albus for along time by the time Ariana died, he would have known she was an obscurial. Maybe the falling out was due to the fact that Dumbledore was in no way going to let Ariana be exploited that way (its easy to imagine Grindelwald trying to convince him that it would help Ariana by having an outlet for her magic to kill muggle instead of it killing her) and that would explain why Aberforth (who was never that close to Albus) got involved in the fight as well. They all duel, Ariana is killed, and her obscurus escapes. (like Creedences did???) Not much seems to be known about obscurus by everyone else in the movie but Grindelwald seems to understand their nature at least as well as Newt does. Once Arianas obscurus escapes (if it did) it would make sense that Grindelwald would want to try and track it down, knowing that he may not have another chance to find one. (since they apparently hadn't been officially sighted in 200 years....Ariana was kept a secret by her brothers so hers wouldn't have been known) So fast forward to 1926, when Newt hears of a girl in Sudan with an obscurus, and he catches it. It stands to reason that Grindelwald could have heard about it too and went to Sudan after it. There is 100% a link between Newt and Grindelwald... I think they met in Sudan. That explains why Grindelwald shows up in New York. (where there are reports of what could be an obscurus) Its not that far fetched. Grindelwald would know about Newt bc he would be interested in anyone close to Dumbledore. And we know they were close. They would have bonded over sharing a similar experience with losing a friend to the temptations to go dark, and Dumbledore may even have picked Newts brain about obscurials bc of Ariana. Those are two pretty significant points for them to have built a relationship on. Grindelwald got expelled from Durmstrang in his 6th year for "experimenting" the same as Newt did. But we know it was actually Leta. Were they all experimenting with an obscurus?!

A few things that could influence the different reactions to Newt and Hagrid's expulsions: 1) the time period: Newt was at school some twenty years before Hagrid and Riddle, so there could have been different rules regarding expulsion and wand-snapping. 2) Hagrid's perceived crime resulted in deaths at school, which we don't know happened with Next's beast. 3) It was stated that Newt was one of Dumbledore's faves. While Dumbledore did stand up for Hagrid, it's possible that he, for whichever reason (say, believing that Newt would be able to contribute better to *a greater good* (not necessarily Grindelwald's) - which is an ideal which I don't believe ever left Dumbledore's morals considering his methods in grooming Harry "for slaughter" as Snape so eloquently put it), chose to defend Newt more fervently than he did Hagrid which brings me to 4) Hagrid was half-giant. This was well-known, and there was A HUGE AMOUNT OF PREJUDICE against him for that, which we've seen from the very onset: he was convicted of manslaughter without a trial based on one very clever student's account; Draco says "i've heard he lives like some sort of beast" i believe even in the first book; Hagrid is instantly blamed for the "beast" in book 2; is not taken seriously as an expert and a teacher in book 3; you see similar struggles experienced by Olympe in book 4.... 5) Newt's family could be influential, considering that the wizarding world is pretty small, Scamander is a magical name, his bro is a war hero, and he is familiar with ministry officials. The only real question though is: who names one kid Theseus and the other Newt?

Wildflower Oh my God thanks for this. Though don't you think it's a little unfair to throw such tidbits about the movie,out of the movie. I mean FBAWTFT is at this point is where all people are caught up to. With no little bits from books left out, since there are no books. If they wanted this to be another out of the book adaptation, they should have published the book first. Also, in the bar scene, Newt asked that dude they were talking to about Graves's history. It seemed random at the time, but now it means that he must have known at least at that time. Also: I have a theory that the dude in the bar was actually Graves in disguise, as he had the same haircut and looked kind of the same, and also tipped off the government (do we call it that? I want to call it the ministry so bad) about their whereabouts. I don't know, it's a bit of a stretch, but it's possible.

Something that has been bothering me is that in the end grindewald gets disarmed by tine. (If I'm not wrong) when a wizard gets disarmed the wand will change it's aliens. So shouldn't that mean that grindewald isn't the master of the elderwand anymore. We know that he has it but not using it in the movie, but the principle should still be the same. Harry disarmed Draco and become the master of the elderwand even though Draco never even knew it was his or used it. Or is there something I missed? Please explain?

I would like to add something. This is more of an observation leading to a question. Credence has two adoptive sisters, Chastity and Modesty. All their names are words, Chastity relating to purity, innocence, and virtue. Modesty relating to humility. And Credence relating to trust, confidence, and reliance, the actual meaning being: belief in or acceptance of something as true. I'm sure J.K Rowling wouldn't just dish out these specific words as names to characters. Makes me really wonder what sort of significance this has if any at all. Especially in Credence's case.

Well assuming those characters come back in the later films it could be hints towards what their character arcs will be. In Credence's case his name means trust and his whole arc revolves around finally finding trust in someone and having that trust betrayed, so Modesty might deal with becoming selfish, arrogant, and angry especially with what happened to Credence. She was willing to cover for him earlier when their adoptive mother caught them with that wand so his death might be the thing that sends her down a darker path. I'm not sure about Chasity though, maybe her being exposed more to the evils and darkness of the world will break her heart and mind beyond repair, turning her into a mentally damaged person (kind of like Bellatrix) thus making her no longer pure and innocent.

Courtney Lovato I saw a video on deleted scenes, apparently they were going to have credence walk into the same ship that Newt does in the end of the movie for the end credits maybe? But the directors chose to be a lot more subtle about it and that's why it shows Newt observing a small piece of the obscurial float away. So maybe Credence is actually still alive. Too early to tell and take stuff like this seriously yet but I did confirm my suspicion when I noticed that in the scene. I do hope Credence comes back for the other movies, I think his character has a lot of potential.

I think the reason that Newt's allowed to do magic and sent to investigate is thanks to Dumbledore. He is mentioned to like and trust him, so it makes sense he sends Newt to investigate (as an excuse) and why Hagrid can't, since there's no need for it

To go off of this, maybe Hagrid had his wand snapped because of Newt and the events of this movie? Newt certainly messed things up, so maybe they didn't want another Newt incident. Also, Dumbledore was just a professor at the time of both Newt's and Hagrid's expulsion. It might have been in Newt's case that the committee or whoever decides if someone is expelled were more ok with Newt and had racist feelings towards Hagrid (he is a half-giant after all). Or this committee/person had changed and was a bit more on the paranoid side.

Tomas Salvo newt works for the ministry, that's why he could keep his wand. and hagrid's a half-giant and people from the ministry wouldn't like giants working in the ministry, they didn't trust him to have a wand, and that's why dumbledore hired him as the groundkeeper, knowing that hagrid would have difficulties to search for job in the future

6:56 Question 3. Well, I think it just wan't that big of a thing that Newt did. Hagrid, on the other hand, wasn't just "keeping a dangerous beast". He was charged for all the bloody sins possible. Opening the Chamber of Secrets, killing people with his beast, supposedly magically controlled, all that. He also refused to hand his beast to the ministry, he simply released it into the wild and refused to tell anyone where it is. Heck, it's even possible they didn't get to see the beast and considered it to be a Basilisk instead of a spider. They could literally charge him for breeding a basilisk, which is about as serious as an unforgivable curse, or even worse. The ministry could forgive an unforgivable curse if it's performed by some important ministry person (like the minister himself, for example), but I don't believe they would forgive breeding of basilisk, since it's about as powerful form of magic as creating Philosopher's Stone. They didn't wan't to have another OP dark wizard on the loose (though they eventually got one anyways). Speaking of dark wizards, the whole "opening of Chamber of Secrets" would suggest that Hagrid is a descendant of Slytherin, which would double their reasons to not want him to use magic, ever. Also, since Newt wasn't actually prohibited from using magic, he could actually finish his school later in his life, right? That's what you do in real life if you get expelled, you either find another school or try your luck again at the same one, but a year later. That could very well explain why he's allowed to freely use magic anywhere and travel the world in search for beasts, or participate in the war, the things they would only allow to a mature, graduated wizard.

Obscurials aren't as rare as you're making them out to be, Newt even says that they used to be more common and do still exist. Plus we don't know how long a Dementor can live, or if they even live at all. If they are more like a ghost than this could be entirely possible, in that the oldest Dementors could be from prehistoric times when magic was first being understood, and being like ghosts they can't really die, they just can become dead-er.

So going back to the original Fantastic Beasts mini-book that JKR released way back when (couldn't help myself after I saw the movie), the foreward mentions that Newt Scamander DID graduate from Hogwarts. Graves also mentions that Dumbledore himself argued against Newt's expulsion. So is it possible that Newt was re-admitted into Hogwarts at some point and finished or finished his schooling by some other means and that's why he is still allowed to carry his wand? Just a thought!

THEORY ABOUT HAGRID AND NEWT: They were both expelled because they nearly killed students. I think that Newt only inflicted damage upon one person, while Hagrid was blamed for opening the chamber of secrets and releasing a monster that actually killed a mudblood and petrified many others. There is clearly a difference between what they were both blamed for. Also, the chamber of secrets is associated with Voldemort and that seems a lot more drastic than simply letting a creature simply "hurt somebody". Hope you like my ideas.

And why would he suppress his magic enough to develop one when he was so keen to join the wizarding world through Graves? Presumably he only found out about wizards later. Up to that point he was living an existence quite similar to Harry's. Maybe harry did start developing one. We know he ended up on the roof when running from Dudleys gang. We also know flying is incredibly difficult. We also know that obscurials can fly and we also know that harry had no memory of how he got onto the roof...

Brett Moolenschot Harry's bursts of magic are quite common at a young age (in the exception of Tom Riddle). I think Credence knew that he was a wizard (I don't know how since his parents are not mentioned) or at least had these outbursts as a child, but then had to supress it for Mary-Lou, who if she'd found out Credence was a wizard, Harry, would've done things I can't imagine to him. My theory is that he was at least aware of his difference, possibly being born into a Wizarding family but believing himself a Squib. Or brought up to fear his magic so had to hide it. Shit, it's amazing how only two hours of content can spark so many questions.

Credence was mentally and physically abused to breaking point by an anti magic mother, so his magic became self contained etc Harry...whilst growing up in not such a nice environment came out of it physically and mentally fine. It made very little impact on his future life.
