i watched a spoiler interview with rian johnson, he was asked why didnt he have leia replace holdo on that hyperspace mega ram thing, and he said that if he did that, you would of had to of removed her and luke reuniting, you would have to take away her passing the baton to poe, and you would of have to of taken out leia talking to rey on the falcon, and he said that they were very significant moments in the film and he couldnt take them out or it did just feel empty, he actually spent a while thinking about it, and when carrie fisher did unfortunatley pass, rian said that they were very deep into post production, and they would have create a whole new final act, they would have to get a whole lot of actors back to redo a bunch of scenes, and they would have to do a whole bunch of work, which would make the film, just not feel right

It's unlikely that the other students would be the Praetorian Guards, because they are extremely loyal to Snoke, not Kylo. Perhaps the Knights of Ren, but none of them have been shown to use lightsabers or the Force yet, so I'm not convinced. There could be a faction of dark, fallen Jedi out there somewhere. We'll have to wait and see.

Kylo wasn't lying to her. He believes it to be true and so does she. Rian Johnson talked about it in an interview. At worst I think maybe Kylo got it wrong and saw a vision that wasn't true. However I want her family to be nobody. It shows she doesn't need to be related to someone to be a hero. Sure Kylo may have been using it to intice her to his side, but at the same time I really think he wanted to face her past and let it go. Ironically she came to save him, but I think he helped her far more than she helped him.

Bronze Bow If you remember Maz says something like "when you live long enough you see the same eyes in different people". She means she has a lot of experience in reading people through their eyes. It has nothing to do with genetics. Also may I remind you that Anakin Skywalker was a slave, basically a nobody too. Not to mention all of the other Jedi in the prequels were from all over the galaxy all walks of life. Their parentage didn't matter. It's only because of the Skywalkers that people think you need to have someone strong with the force in your bloodline. You don't. It can be a factor , but otherwise It's random. In fact this movie implies that the force naturally seeks balance and may select people to gift the force to in order to restore it.

During the Force tug-o-war between Rey and Kylo, the kyber crystal inside exploded and broke the lightsaber in half. So Rey had to spend the next several months to a year or 2, studying the Jedi texts, learning about the Force, before she could seek out another kyber crystal and rebuild the lightsaber (now green/white). This one is now hers.

When various ships are approaching the resistance/rebellion base at the end of the film (before Luke appears), there is a shot into one when the person who seems piloting something (I think) wears that shiny Phasma armor. What Maz says is more poetic, like I've seen other people with the same look in their eyes (fear,grief,anger), and not literally meaning genetics that's what I got from it at least. As for rhyming, Anakin Skywalker was one of the most powerful force users known and he was born to a slave on a desert planet. Granted he was born of the force, but it's still similar to our other heroes Luke and Rey; one being the nephew of moisture farmers on a desert planet and the other an alleged abandoned child of junkers on a desert planet.

Because in the beginning of TFA, Kylo is told that BB8/ Finn is with a girl. And his reaction is like, "Oh? A GIRL!??! Like the one fortold in the prophecy or that one person who had a girl and we thought we killed but never found a body?!!?" In other words, his reaction makes it seem that he already thinks he knows who she is. That, or he's just very sexist and doesn't like a girl helping fight against him.

In theory I like the idea of Rey's parents being nobodies, but these two films have built up her parentage so much that it would create too many issues if that was the case. Throughout TFA Rey says "my parents" or "my family" so many times, Maz sees something in Rey's eyes, Kylo reacts strangely when he is informed that FN-2187 is with 'a girl' (a girl who, as far as Kylo knows, should be completely anonymous and unremarkable), Luke asks who she is and why would the Resistance send HER of all people on such an important mission, Kylo being mislead by his vision of Rey's parents would parallel Snoke being mislead by his vision of Kylo's actions ("He turns the lightsaber to point it at his target, and he strikes down his true enemy!"). And the biggest one, is that nobody in the entire galaxy could figure out where Luke was hiding, except for Rey, who had visions of the island. If the script had been written differently, Rey being the child of unimportant people would have been a great way to convey the idea that anybody can do great things if they are talented and determined enough. But given the way the story has proceeded so far, the only way to conclude it without having too many loose ends is that she must be the daughter of somebody of note, or that the Force brought her into being (just like Anakin) in order to fulfill some prophecy or restore cosmic balance.

Unanswered questions from The last Jedi 1. What the hell were they thinking? 2. Why didn't someone stop them before it aired in theaters? 3. I can't imagine they wouldn't have some amount of footage that could be appropriately repurposed as a leia on the way to her death in the lightspeed scene. The other actors were all still alive, and while it would have been tough to do the necessary reshoots it would certainly be possible. Oh well, just have to wait and see what they do with leia in the next movie.

Indeed, Justice league reshot like half the movie and doubled it's budget just because they got a different director. If they wanted to kill off leia in the last jedi, they easily could have with reshoots and editing. But they made the decision to stick with their original vision. In my opinion, that was the wrong choice because instead of having a whole movie with her to say goodbye, it'll just be a passing mention that she's off doing something else, or like ben said, a funeral scene at the start, but we wouldn't get to see her. I would have much prefered her to sacrifice herself with the lightspeed attack.

They already filmed all of Carrie's scenes. Would you rather have them throw out all of Carrie Fisher's final performance so you can kill off Leia? And Holdo HAD to be the one to make the sacrifice because it teaches Poe that being a hero doesn't always mean doing what your crew wants. The problem is now her death just becomes an obvious necessity since the actor is gone. While it would have been difficult to shift the story for this movie late in the game there was that obvious point at the end where leia could have had a truly meaningful death and a glorious sendoff. Now she's going to get some sort of offscreen death in the period between the two movies that won't really mean anything, or a significant part of the movie with no leia in order to set up a death mid-movie with some meaning that still would seem weird since there would be no actual connection to leia in the buildup. I agree there's no easy way to kill off a character like leia, and gets exponentially harder when its a result of an unexpected death of the actor. It just seems like they ignored such a great opportunity when they finally introduce the new leader who could replace leia only to kill that new person off and leave leia around.

Thank you. I was about to make that exact point, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of it. Not to mention, why would they let the leader of the Resistance and one of their scant few Force-Sensitives throw her life away? Holdo didn't really need to do it, either. I'm pretty sure they could pre-program the ship to jump to hyperspace while they escape, or at worst sacrifice a droid to do it instead.

Thanks for your video. Brilliant about drawing the connection between Lei and Anakin as being both "nobody" at first but born of the Force. I agree Leia has two iconic opportunities to go out hero. But she already was a hero. Princess. General. Leader of the resistance. Remember that it is her connection/attachment with Luke that was so powerful that Luke was able to astral project to the last battle in the movie. Luke came to Leia. Considering the original series, that fits perfectly. P.S. Leia is a force user as well, though not a Jedi. Which is why she was able to pull herself back to the ship. Jedi force pulls objects, Leia force pulls herself. But NoOoO, people had to see it as "weird" and "cheesy" and though it was was, my heart was roaring in triumph while watching that scene for the first time. Luke himself says the Force does not belong to the Jedi but explained along the lines that the Force is an energy of creation, destruction and renewal. It is so interesting that in Rei's first lesson with him, she saw that destruction, renewal and creation, in that order.

I want her to have a purple lightsaber. Her fighting style does kind of remind me of Mace Windu's, with the way she harnesses her aggression and clearly intends to kill. Maybe with one of those fun curved hilts too. Those seem to work pretty well for Sith who use similar techniques. (Not just Count Dooku, it may have worked even better for Asajj Ventress, who had two curved lightsabers that could be combined into one double bladed lightsaber. That was awesome.)

Mentos Cubing Mace Windu had a purple lightsaber to symbolize his usage of both the dark side and the light side for good. Rey can't just get a purple lightsaber. I'm pretty sure the Empire destroyed all the crystals to make them after order 66 was carried out, and it took special steps to make light sabers. The instructions could have been in the sacred jedi tomes that got burnt?

To all that have surpassed 1:52 Rey did meet Poe in TFA. In the canon novelization when the resistance is celebrating having the completed map Poe and Rey in their excitement hug and then introduce themselves to each other. So they might not know each other that well but they both know of the other's existence.

Theory time: Rey’s parents are Iden Versio and Hal from Star Wars Battlefront II. At the very beginning of the last Jedi they show some items that Luke has. One of these is a silver compass. This compass makes an appearance in Battlefront II’s story mode when Luke takes it from the emperor’s observatory on Pillio. Then decades later the first order captures Del and Kylo starts interrogating him. This makes the game and movie canon. Kylo reads Del’s mind and says something similar to “You thought Iden would change you. You thought your daughter would change you. But you are still a coward.” This could be referring to Rey. The scene is then followed by a flash of red when someone shoots someone else. I say this because Disney could have had this scene outside of the ship where general Hask and Del are being held so that they could have Del kill Hask, escape and help the resistance in a later movie. So Del and Iden are Rey’s parents and the compass connects everything.

In fact, aside from the added hilt (and the fact that it's blue), it looks very similar in construction to his current lightsaber.

i think it's more appropriate for her parents to be nobodies honestly. i remember talking to a friend and trying to figure it out after the force awakens and we came to the conclusion that whether she was a kenobi, skywalker, palpatine, etc. that people had hashed it out to the point that no answer would be shocking enough or good enough. Well i was wrong, because to me finding out that they were nobodies leaves us feeling exactly like Rey, disappointed yet relieved to know and i think that's a good thing, it helps us relate to her so much more because let's be real, how many people have famous parents? We can associate with her even more now and i love it.

LEGO Builder Studios we know that the armor was specially made for her on her homeworld by a factory that was there for years, buried in the sands. It’s possible she destroyed the factory so she would be unique amongst the first order trainees and amongst the first order and it’s propaganda machine. It’s possible she is supposed to show her superiority amongst the rest of the stormtrooper corps. It could also be that the armor just can’t be manufactured for the rest of the corps because there’s far to many of them for the factory to keep up with the demand.

This is referencing a later video you made about the force balancing. Dark side had the has Snoke, Kylo Ren, and the hand full of students that left Luke's academy. Light side Luke was not using the force, Lea sparingly, so that explains why Rey is so powerful. Luke, and Snoke die, so that leaves Kylo, and the Knights of Ren. Rey, and the broom kid.

I hope it takes place a few years later (like Empire after New Hope), and maybe she died offscreen... both Carrie and Leia as a character deserve better but I couldn't stand to see her CGI either... if she'd died in that explosion it would have truly been perfect for me because as well as crushing the Resistance emotionally, it would have also had a huge impact on Kylo's arc, which was obviously prominent in this film. But oh well :/ I can understand why Rian wanted to keep her around for scenes later on...

9:46 I believe that when Yoda died, the force manifested itself in Vader (actually Anakin since it was the light side). This is what brings his conflict to a peak and Luke then brings him to a turning point. After Vader dies I believe the Force manifested itself in Luke (and later Ben) making him the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy officially. After Luke shut himself off from the Force, it then manifested itself in Rey. Same concept as your theory but with a few more steps.

Reylo ain't done. This is act two. Yes, Rey rejects Ben's offer here. But to be honest, if Rey had gone with Kylo here, THAT would be a hint that they'd split by the end (how can they have a happy ever after in the middle movie? they can't). That they are apart (and again share a final, sad, parting look) is strong evidence for the idea that they will figure their crap out by the end of nine and meet in the middle (see here, not just Kylo, but Rey too, wanted to bend the other to their will.... in nine, they will learn to compromise and not try to control) Take it from the Reylo crowd. Reylos have been saying this was coming for two years.... ppl told us "oh no they'll hate each other, they'll fight each other, Rey will kill Kylo" And what did tlj deliver? Some sensual AF metaphorical Reylo scenes, rey losing her voice when first seeing shirtless kylo, emotionally charged hand holding, a Darcy-esque proposal (Darcy's first, tactless and intensive proposal lol) and Reylo fighting together. Reylos called so much of the Kylo Ren and Rey dynamic in this movie. But some of y'all still think we're wrong?

I think it's important to note that early in the movie, they show Leia and Luke reaching out their hands and sensing each other with the force. Then Rey and Kylo do the same. Snoke takes credit for their connection but then after he is dead, at the end of the movie, they do it again. I still think there is a family connection there either sister and brother or cousin's. I like the idea of it being nobodies, that having the force has nothing to do with genes, but there are just too many Easter eggs to let it die.
