My Albo Standeleyana made a large runner and a friend told me to put it on a pole and it would trigger leaf production. Worked like a charm. Rapidly created a ton of leaves past the runner.

yes exactly! 😍that works great - I just meant in order to make the individual nodes produce leaves i would have to cut the tip off - otherwise yes I'd do that for sure! Thanks!! 🌱🌱

Thanks for another great video james, inspired by your nepenthes video i got a biil bailey and a bloody mary 2 months ago they lost a few pitchers but they are puting out some nice shiny new growth now, mind you my rain water reserves are down half a litre might need to collect condensation from saucepans if it doesn't rain!

My favourite one is the green on green variegated monstera ^^ I find the colours so pretty. Do you know where it's possible to find a cutting of it James? or is it still one of the sort of "unicorn" ones with an astronomical price ? haha

James, I truly love your selection of Monsteras. Each is optimal in appearance for its given name. I hope you can keep all of them and grow them out; it would be worth your while. I follow craigmilran, on Instagram and use his suggested potting mix for Monsteras. I use an orchid mix that is redwood bark chunks, perlite, wood charcoal chunks, and little chunks of peat moss. Then I add to -- and equaling about 1/3 of the total volume of orchid mix -- a good peat moss and perlite potting mix.... with an extra hand full of perlite. Then I add another hand full of course natural sand. I then mix it well and pack it around my plant. I also use two to three inches of natural drainage stone on the bottom of the pot, so that the plant is never sitting in water. Essentially, I make the drainage stone higher that the height of the saucer under the pot. At first, water it well and evenly the first couple weeks. Then wait for the mix to feel dry in the first couple inches of mix and then water evenly. The water that drains into the saucer will soak back up thru the gravel in the bottom of the pot and into the mix or it will evaporate. Good luck with your move and I hope you can also find a suitable and safe place for all your plants. By the way, my monstera deliciosa loves this mix and is now 7' high x 5' wide now. I've even rooted cuttings straight into the mix with only little root nubs and no rooting hormone of any kind. No plant food, until the plant is adjusted and growing well. Then, as per usual.

Regarding the roots that are dying off - it could be that they are variegated and more sensitive. Monstera roots can be variegated, and I noticed on my large form albo, the roots that die are the albo roots.

ohh that's an interesting idea - hadn't even considered that! ill see if I can have a look at them more closely 🙌🌱

hey, could you tell me how do you water and fertilize the plants that are in the moss? or only spraying from above with fertilizer as in the video?

I have my green variegated monstera in aroid mix approx 30% bark, 30% perlite, 30% soil. I didn't realize they rot so easily. My Thai rots really quick and lives in similar substrate but also has a layer of lecca at the base just incase. Maybe try that? How much did you purchase it for? Im about to chop mine so im not sure the market value as they're not common.
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
ah good idea! I've just moved it to a chunky mix similar to the one you've described so hopefully it does well in that! And I don't know about the market price - I traded for mine and I havent seen another for sale in the UK as far as I can remember! Good luck propagating yours! 🙌😍

I think your monstera roots die off because of light. Root hairs are sensitive to light (in some plants more than others). try putting the plastic pot inside a cache pot and see if it gets better

Sir James, your monstera thai const sport really2 amazing & beautiful 😍😍😍 is the variegation stable?

Whats those white bags hanged on plants ? Is that pest preventive 🤔
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
yes! I use preventative control against thrips, mealy bugs, white fly and spidermites! Happy to do a video on them some time if that would be helpful! 🌱🌱
@sairajparayath3 жыл бұрын
Waiting for that video 😃👍. By the way can you please let me know where we can get those ?
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
If you're based in the UK I get mine from a company called Dragonfli - I'm sure there are equivalent companies worldwide though! If you Google 'preventative insects' and whatever pest you have I'm sure you'll find a good supplier!

Thats not thai constellation. It’s MD Mint Variegata.
@JamesArmstrongPlants3 жыл бұрын
no it's definitely a Thai constellation sport - the variegation might look similar to a mint but this one came out of tissue culture for Thai constellation and the other 'mint' monstera were found from mutated seeds or growth on existing plants as far as I know. Hope that helps.
