I understand how the 15 year old felt, I have Asperger's Syndrome and selective mute. It always feels like everyone thinks I choose not to talk but I do want to talk my body just won't let me during those times. It feels like my chest gets tight and body starts getting warmer and the words feel like they get stuck in my throat. I usually feel guilty not being able to talk when I want to especially to my family and friends but it mostly happens around people I don't know since I also have social anxiety.

The term fortnight comes from an old English term fēowertīene niht Which originally meant 14 nights. Or 14 days due to the fact Anglo-Saxons counted by nights So she was saying she was going to pay him back 400 dollars over two weeks.

Regarding that first story: I’m a graduate of Washington State University (GO COUGS!) Since then I have worked in the NFL (been to 2 superbowls), worked for another major university in the south, and currently work for a well known NBA team. The older sister is definitely an asshole. WSU is in the middle of nowhere, I’ll give OP that and yes we definitely partied A LOT there. But it’s still a major university with excellent programs. TBH, I’ve attended 2 private universities after WSU that has way more accolades than UW, and I can say I had the most fun at WSU. It’s not about where you go, but what you make of it.

Selective mutism is so difficilt for people to understand :( selective doesnt mean the person can *choose* when to speak, it just means sometimes they can, sometimes they cant, for whatever reason. Myself, I often cant speak after a mentally exhausting day (e.g. work in office, too many noisy people, too loud, too much social interaction). My mother would pick me up and start trying to talk and the best I could do is respond in grunts. If i could speak, it was usually just to ask for minimal conversation. If she kept pushing, I'd end up having a meltdown, similar to the person in the post.

My son has selective mutism. So I get it. But I didn’t for such a long time. He would have meltdowns after school and I’m now realizing (thanks to you!) that was why! He was just way too overwhelmed from school he needed to be in silence and unwind. I feel bad. And the way I explain it to people is that it’s not the person selecting who and when to talk to it’s the condition (for lack of better word) that selects. Because it’s not on purpose. It’s not him making a conscious decision. He can’t control it. He’s in therapy (was seeing a psychologist now he’s seeing an art therapist and at school he sees a speech pathologist) so we’re working on it. But it’s hard when others don’t understand and think he’s choosing to be silent. I really thought I understood it but reading your comment I have a better understanding now. And I’ll stop pushing him to talk after school or when it’s clear he doesn’t want to or just feels too overwhelmed to. I think I’ll tell him “when you feel ready and more at ease I’m here for you to tell me”. Thank you so much for your comment.

So. The one with the cousins. No, she would not be the jerk. By getting him in trouble for the insurance, she could potentially save him from even more fines if he has an accident again due to his drunk driving. He is endangering himself and everyone around him. She would be the jerk if she didn’t report. She said it herself: I stopped hanging with him because it was getting too dangerous. She knows he's a danger, yes, he won't be happy with her, but if he gets into a drunk driving accident and deals thousands of dollars worth of damage, he'll realize how much she helped him.
@Raserei3339 ай бұрын
She wouldn’t be the jerk. Generally speaking though, depending on where they live, insurance probably already reported this to the state’s DMV. And if that’s the case then said cousin’s license is probably already suspended, but that doesn’t stop people like that cousin who just don’t care. She’d be better off reporting the intoxicated driving to authorities with license plate number and such.

The second one I'm thinking she " always ruins happy moments with a negative comment" because he likely does things or gets her things that either he would like or thinks she should like without bothering to pay attention to her likes or find out what she would prefer and then gets upset when she's not grateful for getting her something she doesn't like or wouldn't want. People like this annoy me to no end. I would rather you just get me nothing.

Fortnight is 2 weeks. She's not the ah for wanting her stuff back and debt or no debt dont think he can legally hold her stuff since that wasn't agreed upon as a part of the debt. Also he's what 12 years older than her? That's a little sus especially because she's 21 and her brain isn't fully developed yet, meanwhile his is. Selective mutism isn't something people can control and I appreciate that you didn't think that op was being dramatic or intentionally disrespectful.
