I have the Peugeot 3008 2014 diesel/Hybrid. It has a 2L 180hp diesel driving the front wheels and a 20hp electric motor driving the rear wheels. I get 50mg in mixed road driving which is about 10mg more than the diesel-only version. What I like is that it provides 4wd if the car thinks it needs it or if I want it and you can see the rear wheels being driven during things like the initial pull off, supporting the stop/start function, around a car park, moving slowly in a traffic jam and smoothing the odd automatic gearbox over a gear change. I have done 100,000 miles in it and although there are some oddities I really like it. Oh, and the free road tax and congestion/emissions is an added bonus.

Comfortable. And so reliable as you say! Only issues have been 2 of the electric window switches on the driver's door no longer work (no hardship) and recently a spot of rust on the bonnet lip. Even though we can no longer take it into Glasgow city centre due to the recently introduced ULEZ I intend to keep it, keep on servicing it regularly and just see how many miles it can get up to. RX400h is indeed a great car. Speaking of the consumption, 9/10 litres per 100kms is correct, I wouldn't say it is less on the motorway though. The best results in fuel saving you get doing local roads at 80-90 km/h, where it is usually down to around 8l/100km or so, but motorways at 120-130 km/h will raise this to about 9-9,5l or more/100km.

I have one and it had full lexus service history and its like new, electric everything and 270bhp fwd means you don't get bored, or you could spend double for a q5 with 200 bhp, no electric seats, no sunroof, no heated seats, no footwell lighted symbol ( highly important ), ah....and better sound system and remote tailgate, it's like a never ending list of luxury extras for 8k
@richardschofield22012 жыл бұрын
I have one and think they are great cars, but here are the things I don't like about the RX. Turning circle bigger than the Titanic. Rear visibility is rubbish, no reverse parking sensors (on mine) and the rear view camera is crap and doesn't work at night. The wheels rust terribly, so bad I was told that they couldn't be repaired as the rust would come through again. Engine uses the efficient Atkins cycle which makes the engine sound a bit ratty at idle. I do t like the foot handbrake. When you use the handbrake or put the car in park it rolls on a hill about a foot before it's being held properly. Honestly they are good. I love the CVT gearbox. Only an electric car is smoother.

Thank you Matt, that was a really good selection of SUV's to consider. The Touareg has always been a favourite of mine but only because J had never considered being able to afford the Cayenne, how little I knew! The X6 is a Stonking good car and is really at odds with it's stable mates which is good! I think I'll have to watch that a few more times to fully swallow all the really good info you provided us so many thanks

Once again, superb channel! I remember in the good old 80's, when they had an advertisment in the middle of magazines, papers and so on. The left page was a picture of the back of a Volvo, and the right one was the front of a SAAB. And of course, it was the advertisment for Subaru. 😀

I’ve owned an ix35 for 10yrs, 29 round town, rarely see 40 on run, no problems except media screen is dimming and the reverse cam has just failed, one front spring snapped but hey the roads in Argyll and Bute are atrocious… you have to keep on top of the sunroof lubrication as it will seize… the 4wd has hill descent lock central diff etc but make sure you dont use cheapo tyres… sorry Matt, the wife drives it mostly and she doesn’t have a lead foot we are paying 1.71 a litre before latest hike…..

Hold on one moment, my Subaru Forester 2.0 diesel is a fab car to drive, very economical, super practical especially down the DIY store to buy large items, it has all the toys you want and does not make any rattles on the gearbox, in fact its very quiet.

In 2019 I bought (ebay auction) a 2005 x-trail 2.2dci with 250k on the clock for £600 with a new 12mt MOT.. All I did for a year was put diesel in it. Drove it all over England. A year later it went straight through another MOT. Then I sold it for £800 because I was bored (stupid) . Solid vehicle. Actually thought I was getting stung when I went to pick it up 'Too good to be true'.

Absolutely love your channel content and 9/10 times your taste in cars. As an advocate for used cars in particular a major believer in you should not need more than £10K for a solid car I can't believe you missed off the Mercedez ML mk2 and BMW x5 MK2. Would be interested to know why they didn't make your cut?

£10k is buying less car all the time barely gets you a 10 year old bmw or audi now. Most of these suvs would be at least 10-12 years old at the £10k price range. That's to old if you ask me.

If you decide to do a people carrier review for under say £15k please check out the Chrysler Grand Voyager. What a practical versatile vehicle, combines very comfortable people carrying with van like load lugging. All the rear seats fold into the floor. They have all the safety features you can think of. They have every electrical feature you can think of. Economical 2.8 litre Diesel engines and auto box. Half the price of a vw transporter with lots of quality features. I’ve had one for about 4 months and can’t believe they under the radar for anyone looking for a people carrier/van/SUV.

I would buy an SUV as long as it has AWD/4WD, cos that’s the only way SUVs IMO make sense. Also, I recommend a video about the best minivans for under £10K.
@brianjohnson57892 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of them are just bought for the higher ground clearance to make it easier/safer to travel over the ridiculous amount of "speed humps" that infest our country now.
@DaveDVideoMaker2 жыл бұрын
@@brianjohnson5789 Even that, I would only buy a 4WD/AWD SUV/crossover.

@@DaveDVideoMaker I completely agree. I don't see the point in an SUV without 4WD/AWD off-road capabilities along with comfortable road/motorway driving. I'd certainly place the older versions of BMW X5 and Mercedes ML in that list.

@@Globetrotter-1 You see a lot of subcompact and compact crossovers on the road without AWD/4WD. They’re just taller and more expensive hatchbacks, and you don’t get as much space inside as a normal hatchback, or a better fuel consumption, so what are you actually getting for like £4000 extra?

Matt, Matt, Matt. Make up your mind about the Touareg. Either you recommend it or not. Earlier you told us you thought they were unreliable but now it features here. Also the V10 is insane but almost any work requires the engine out and that's 8 hours minimum. Good advice video though.

As usual v interesting useful reviews. And perhaps future reviews/ comparison for us sad people who only need two seats and a roof that comes off!! And worse sometimes have penchant for 0-60 times!! Although probably not relevant nowadays - had a 2002 petrol RAV4 for a couple of years from 2004, passed onto a Cousin in 2006 and it looked like new this week and he tells me it has hardly cost him a groat and is heading for its 200,000 miles!!

Don't know if someone has already mentioned this but there I s no way you're getting 45 mpg from a Kia Sorrento. I've had my Hyundai Santa Fe (same car different badge)from new and it's a brilliant truck but the best I've ever seen was 39 mpg when having to stretch an initial 180 mile range on a 220 mile drive home. Stuck to 60 mph and got back with 25 mile range left. So yes, totally agree with the choice of the Kia or Hyundai equivalent equivalent. Another excellent video
