I have a couple of cards I'd add to the Buget Blue Choice: Curse of the Swine - Blue has allot of "Bounce" effects and stuff like that, but it affects you too. Sure it can be good, but it can also set you back. CotS gives you a one sided board wipe that destroys only things you dislike and doesn't even touch your board! Reality Shift/Pongify/Rapid Hybridization - the "Path to Exile" and "Swords to Plowshare" of blue. Sure they get a 3/3 Ape or Lizard, but this is non-bounce removal that is just amazing. Rarely will you see targeted removal like this that doesn't bounce it or something. Reality Shift is a two mana exile and manifest and it gets even better if they like, Mystical Tutor or something to put a card on top and you just get them by exiling a creature and putting that card there in its place. Imprisoned in the Moon - Another removal card, but this one is in the form of an enchantment. Similar to Song of the Dryads, this card can get rid of Commander's as a land, making it hard to deal with if you cant get your commander out from under it. It can also turn a utility land into something much less useful or get rid of an enchantment. Archetype of Imagination - I talked about allot of removal, so its time to add in something else. The Archetype cycle was pretty interesting, but probably one of the better ones is Imagination, right up there with Endurance for Hexproof. Archetype of Imagination is a card that denies your opponents the ability to block while also making sure you control the board. Nothing sucks more than when you go up against that dragon deck...until you clip their wins and make them like flightless birds!

I prefer Pull from Tomorrow over Stroke of Genius. You have to discard a card, but it's one mana less and if you're drawing like 5+ cards, discarding one is no big deal at all. Plus, if you use your graveyard in any way, that becomes an upside. It can't hit your opponents, but if you're not getting infinite mana you likely never use it on your opponents anyways. And if you are, then I do think blue sun's zenith is better since it's repeatable.

Whelming Wave in an Arixmethes deck is about as close to having a second cyclonic rift as you're gonna get. Also I think Evacuation isn't played enough specifically because of how good Cyclonic rift is. Evacuation is still a great board wipe that completely hoses token and +1/+1 counter decks. Unfortunately it's just outside the budget restrictions of this video. There is 1 copy on Card Kingdom currently under $2 though.

I have quicksilver fountain in my Mizzix deck and love it. Fountain + chromatic lantern is great, but steam vents-type lands and mana rocks is good enough to fix for red.

Acquire is one of my favourites, it's about $2.50, but it lets you search an opponent's library for a paradox engine or some other crazy artifact and put it on the battlefield under your control

Reality Shift is by far one of my favorite budget blue cards! It’s super cheap, permanently gets rid of things that are hard to take care of otherwise (because of Indestructible or recursion), it’s only 2 mana, AND it’s instant speed. I love it!

Alexi’s cloak is an so unbelievably amazing enchantment for decks that super care about their commander. The number of times it has been a counterspell that left my commander with shroud had been many!

*So here is one challenge for you guys* , as a budget player, and you guys as hobby brewers … can we get an 'Extra Turns' episode with decks all under $100,- , where the cheapest deck goes first (just to give a 4% incentive to keep the budget down instead of pushing it to the $99,99) … and sure, basic lands do not count towards the budget, but perhaps it's then fair to say that the deck NEEDS to be at least dual color … I am sure a fair part of your audience would love to see that game, and get a hold of the decklists to look through them for budget cards, budget power and budget synergy.

One card I play in almost all of my blue decks is Baral's Expertise. It's 3UU for a Sorcery, and it says "Return up to three target artifacts and/or creatures to their owner's hands. You may cast a with converted mana cost 4 or less from your hand without paying its mana cost". So for 5 mana, not only do you get a triple unsummon (which can also hit artifacts) but you can also cast another card for 4 or less, effectively making this spell cost 1 or 2 mana. It's also only 50 cents.

Nezahal, that blue elder dinosaur from Rivals of Ixalan, is a good budget alternative for consecrated sphinx. Draws you loads of cards and can protect itself!

Josh I strong recommend checking out The Terror - a miniseries on AMC that presents a fictionalized historical account of Sir John Franklin's infamous Lost Expedition to find the Northwest Passage to the East. Perplexing Chimera is so much value if you can blink bounce or homeward path it, and it forces others to not cast good cards. Often times it reads "destroy all creatures" because that will often force opponents into wrath effects just to be able to advance their board in a real way. Also, the foil is under 2 dollars!

Faerie Artisans is a Value house EVERY single time i see it on the battlefield. it usually ramps multiple lands and gets so many nice etb effects

Fact or Fiction is an amazing blue budget card. In FFA games it'll typically net you 2-3 cards, but if you're playing any special modes (e.g. star or secret partners), then it can net you 5 cards for 4 mana which is insane.

Forbid comes in at $1.99 so i'm counting it, and it's in most of my blue decks. 3 mana counter, and it's buyback cost of discarding 2 cards isn't mana. I tend to exceed Josh and Jimmy's 10 card draw spells when I have blue, and being able pitch two lands to keep your counterspell shields up is beyond fantastic.

My fav budget blue card not on this list: Dreamscape Artist. Repeatable Harrow on a body. Really good ramp and fixing. Also puts cards in your graveyard which can be a plus with flashback and other mechanics.

Rush of Knowledge (great especially when u have a relatively high cmc commander to draw plenty cards reliably) Willbender (although everybody knows it's Willbender they will still have to be careful how to play around and not waste their removal) Time Stop (expensive but it can be quite the life saver) Annul (awesome in MonoBlue/Dimir and Izzet decks since they can't deal with enchantments and those w/o Red with artifacts) Reality Shift/Blessed Reincarnation/Rapid Hybridization/Pongify/Turn to Frog/Imprisoned in the Moon (Blue creature removal for when u don't have black and white in your deck or threats are too big for red removal)

Honestly, Voidmage husher is so good for shutting down planeswalkers. It counters an ult, then you can chump with it, and you cast brainstorm to send it back to hand. Or to save it from removal!

I dont know if I'd say good but Cloudfin Raptor. I have it in my animar deck and its pretty much always a good time. Its ether a chump blocker, an animar counter, or sometimes if the deck plays out right it can be a straight up win con. Dont know how globally useful it is, but if it works in your deck I strongly reccommend it.

Hey, I posted this in the Tolarian Community College comments and I thought Id post it here too. As someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest, the boys and girls club a great organization. It's a local fun and safe space where children, like the one I used to be, could hang out and get away from the harshness of reality. I know I'm just some random dude on the internet but the boys and girls club was a very positive impact on my life and the lives of many of my friends. Favorite budget blue card? Gotta be Nevermaker. It only works well in blink decks, but putting cards on top of your opponent's deck is hilarious if you can repeat it. Never let one opponent draw a new card again.

Capsize is an MVP in my book, it literally was the deciding factor in me winning a game by bouncing my soulring turn 4 to hand saving it from the obviously tutored up vandalblast to deal with a different player and saving my artifact in my jhoira combo deck won me the game

Great new series! Kindof sick of hearing about Gaea's Cradle, Cabal Coffers, Urborg, Fetchlands and Vedalken Orrery. This helped me realize that my future sight which I had been sortof on the fence about is actually really worth another look. I slotted it into my Jhoira Weatherlight Captain deck where cycling from the top of my library is really good! I really want to hear thoughts on building a good generic 3 color mana base (without green). I've been leaning to building with more basis instead of the 'bad' ETB tapped lands like gates. then using colorless creature ramp or green stuff to fetch basics (plus two cost color rocks). An in depth discussion of a 'faster-and-early' 3 color budget mana base versus a 'slow-and-controlly' 3 color base would be great.

Aetherize! It's not quite as good as Cyclonic Rift (since it only hits attacking creatures), but it's got a lower CNC and will in most cases provide nearly as big a momentum swing, especially if the opponent that's attacking has a lot of cards in hand already.

BARAL'S EXPERTISE!!! 5 CMC, bounce three artifacts/creatures, cast a 4CMC (or less) spell for free. Big swing card similar to the $14 Grasp of Fate in white, but is a bulk rare (so 25, 50 cents).
