Nice analysis! Have you considered that CGC slabs might actually still be somewhat over-valued, rather than CBCS slabs being significantly under-valued? At first glance, it sure seems like CGC slab prices have fallen much more, from the giddy heights of the boom, than have CBCS slab prices. I suspect that "true" collectors - ie. folks who plan to proudly keep the slab until the day they die - currently prefer the CBCS slabs, and are willing to wait & pay what they consider to be a "fair", not inflated, price to get the books that they really want in their PCs. So, perhaps it is better to consider the CBCS prices as the base line, and cast a more suspicious eye at the CGC prices, which are unarguably going to be priced higher, as long as "flippers" & "speculators" - ie. folks looking mostly to turn a profit - think that the prices will only go up in the future. But, hey, what do I know? Absolutely nothing. I'd rather get your more informed opinion. This is just my worthless opinion, based on what I saw the last time folks were speculating on comic books as an investment in the 90's. Feel free to ignore everything I wrote, and move on... :)

Hey Ryan, yes I do watch all of your videos. This is Bob in Connecticut.. well a positive sign this week X-Men 1 7.0 sold for $40,000. I think now is the time if you do not have a high grade copy of fantastic four 48 it’s the time to get one before it goes crazy again. I told you I got lucky I got my 9.6 on eBay over 10 years ago for only $3600.. anyway, good luck with everything.

It’s undeniably clear that if you want to maximize your comic value, you don’t slab with CBCS. I chuckle that the CBCS-deniers can’t accept what the data is showing.

CBCS grades much tougher and consistently than CGC I’ve realized over the years plus they don’t have as many quality assurance issues.

Exactly, I prefer to buy cbcs because they grade tougher and they are cheaper, it’s a win win. You get a better book for cheaper. Great as a buyer.

Win win for the buyer. Lose lose for the seller. Which is why people selling their books generally don’t want to send to cbcs. You need both the buyers and sellers for it to work.

None of the books I’m looking for to add to my PC from CBCS are cheaper than CGC. Every time I look them up they’re at the same price as CGC, or higher. Never see them much lower, so this doesn’t help me at all 😂
@AutomaticComics
@AutomaticComics 15 күн бұрын
You just have to wait for an auction. But many sellers likely won’t auction their cbcs books because they know they’ll go lower. I wouldn’t either.

Have you ever thought of opening a consultation job pricing comic books for a small fee? Maybe make a monthly subscription price list for a monthly fee. I probably follow your advise and ditch go collect and cover price. Lol

That X-Men #1 CGC 5.0 doesn't have a good color strike, either. I have A CGC 5 0 with very bright reds and darker green border. I think it would sell for more. I've been told it might even press up to a 5.5 or 6.0. As you know, presentation means a lot to a comic's value. I do agree that the market for silver age keys seems to have stabilized. Thanks for another great video!

I don’t get how the coward label applies. You’re literally stating hard data and doing so knowing people will attack you. The cowards are the ones not putting their name on their attacks. I’m a CBCS guy, but you can’t argue with the numbers. I use CBCS because I like their slab and they’re actually willing to come out to sites in my area and take submissions. I also don’t flip my slabs so the numbers data doesn’t matter much to me. People need to do their research before submitting, and that’s exactly what you’re providing for us. We’ve been warned several times if flipping is the intention.

For god sakes I look for CBCS because they are cheaper. Saying something is,what it really is, makes no one a shill. If I buy a raw book, with reselling in mind, CGC all day. Personally I really don’t care, but as the proof is in the pudding. CGC brings in more money. That is not an opinion that is fact.

Good job as always,,,,if more people would use CBCS prices would equalize with cgc.....BUT if people keep going with cgc they will become a monopoly and you may as well bend over ....you will get screwed !!!!!

Just pointing out the obvious here is that 4 examples of underperforming CBCS books were 1.5 or 1.8 books. I don't discount the discount, but it's a rough comparison. Personally, if i slabbed my books, I would send valuable books to CGC. Modern books would be CBCS all day every day. As a buyer though, why would you pass on excellent Golden Age books worth thousands of dollars because of the label? That's craziness to me. When I purchase a slab, I like at the recent values of CBCS and CGC alike. I would feel dumb if I paid X for a given CGC book and then found someone else bought the same in CBCS for a 20 percent discount.
@AutomaticComics
@AutomaticComics 9 күн бұрын
Modern cbcs books typically do even worse. So I wouldn’t recommend using cbcs for them. I think it’s because people don’t trust their 9.8s and that’s where most of the modern market is.
@jabezcreed
@jabezcreed 9 күн бұрын
@@AutomaticComics Like I said, for value I'd do CGC 100 percent. But if I wanted to just slab a bunch of cool modern books for my PC I'd do CBCS for the quality of slab and aesthetics. That's just my personal preference. I don't hate the CGC slabs, but the few I have are just not my thing.
@thomaspalmer6453

Sending your books to CGC instead of CBCS does not make you a coward. It makes you smart. Until collectors wake up and realize that CBCS is just as good at grading comics as CGC, they'll still keep sending their books to CGC. Until then, the money is with CGC. The scams didn't seem to have much of an impact on CGC.
@slickjolly
@slickjolly 15 күн бұрын
It's the same book just in a different plastic case!! What does this mean...Is CGC over-valued or is CBCS under-valued? It has to be one or the other. There can't possibly be a 30% higher grade on a CBCS than would be on a CGC to justify that kind of a price differential. If people are buying based on how the labels look, that does not add any logic to the reason for grading comics.
@AutomaticComics
@AutomaticComics 14 күн бұрын
In my opinion, considering there’s like 20x CGC books out there compared to cbcs, the CGC price is the price based on the fact that they sell far more often.
@billparker442
@billparker442 15 күн бұрын
Get mad and pissy from afar if you want. Fact is, CBCS books sell for less than CGC. Personally, I dont think its justified. To me, they grade the same. But, if I was buying, I'd look seriously at CBCS, because you can get them cheaper. What it is.

Oh here we go with your CGC love fest again and trying to justify your not switching over but since you wanted to keep trying to talk math okay I actually took some time of my own to look at some of the math. All Select Comics #1 a 1.8 sale in 2018 went for $8,225, in 2019 a 2.5 went for $7,600, then in 2020 there was a sale for $5,932 in a 2.0. Well what happened there? It seems like all of those books in lower grades have been trending down from a peak sale in a 1.8 grade in 2018 for a ridiculous amount of $8,225. So was that sale for the CBCS for that book really that bad? From those numbers I would have to say not at all. Now let's look at the Law Breakers Suspense Stories #11. In a 3.5 there was two sales in 2021 for $3,360 and $2,275. In 2023 there were also two sales for $2,880 and $2,272. Hmm seems they went down. Well let's look at other grades too. 5.0 in 2023 went for $3,355 then in 2024 $2,900. 6.0 in 2023 two sales went for $4,800 and $4,320 but in 2024 they went for $4,100 and $4,080. Lastly how about a 6.5? Well in 2021 one sold for $7,130 and in 2023 one went for $4,680. Hmm do you see a trend again? Prices dropping. Lastly the AF 15 in a 1.8 so it went for $14,400. Well in February of this year there was a sale for $18,600 a month later one sold for $16,551 then just 6 days later another sold for $15,000. In April one sold for $16,200. None of those books had as big of a piece missing from the front cover I looked at everyone. So some may say they presented better. I wasn't going to take the time to dig any further as all these actual real numbers anyone can go to Gocollect and verify themselves to see are enough to render this argument mute honestly. You still are ignoring my last statement of what are all the record low sales? Are those overwhelmingly in favor of CBCS? The real issue is the supply and the supply will not change until dealers start helping to make a change in supply. So I still stand by what I'm saying as well. I this time actually did the math on some of your claims and well I don't think it's nearly as egregious as you're trying to portray for your own personal bias and it truly is a detriment to all of us in this hobby as a whole.
