Should I go to a specialist for the type of cancer that I have? And how do I approach the doctor about this without insulting him

@@Livetoeat171 This is a great question - while we are not a medical advice site, what we've heard from doctors and patients alike is that any good doctor will encourage you to get a second opinion, especially if it's a more rare cancer and you're at a community cancer care site where the oncologist/hematologist may see many different kinds of patients throughout his/her day. -Stephanie

What encouraging therapies/words are there for high risk patients with deletion 17p? Also, there are side effects from many of the drugs given for treatment of MM. Are there efforts in decreasing/eliminating these side effects for a better quality of life?

Why is the standard of care including stem cell transplant protocol the same for a young myeloma patient in their 30s and also for an older patient in their 60's ? Is the genetics of the disease the same regardless of age ? Are treatments available for this disease take into consideration the very young and fit patient in mind ? The median age for a myeloma patient is 60 yrs old. Why hasn't a cure been found for this type of cancer while other blood cancers such as leukemia have found a cure ?
