Hi, Cory! Thanks for taking us shopping with you! Blue is definitely having a moment right now and I am thrilled! All your projects were lots of fun and turned out really great. This was a perfect thrifting video! The frame on that watercolor would not be original to that painting, if it is by the artist. The back shows it was not professionally framed. Maybe take it out of the frame and see if it is an original watercolor or a print of one. If it’s an original, I would suggest taking it somewhere to have it professionally framed with preservation quality glass and backing. Michael’s and Hobby Lobby both have that capability. Original art can retain its value if it is well cared for. Without UV glass and without a backing to protect it from dust and grit, watercolors can deteriorate quickly. You might actually have an heirloom that will show up on in-the-future “Antiques Roadshow!”🌸

I would totally put the Sullivan painting into a different frame and fix up the bamboo frame for something else. The ideas clash. Bamboo and field flowers doesn't look nice to me. I would put the painting in a nice thin white frame. The lamp is my favorite project today!

This painting deserves a more classic frame to show "frame" it's beauty. Reframing will bring it to the next level of sofistication. What about a golden or silver frame?

That was a fun video, Corie! About the frame... is there any way to find out from the artist if she framed it like that? I'm thinking a white frame will wash out the painting itself, perhaps a green that's in the foliage with a dry brush white overtop. Thanks for the nightcap video!

Hi Corey, thanks for the fun video. Fun projects!! I’m itching to thrift and look for something navy now. Btw, I agree about the lamp shades, I wish Goodwill would not separate them. If I don’t care for the shade on a lamp that I purchase I simply donate it back again. It’s always nice to have the option of the original shade. So nice to have you posting again, you and your channel are a favorite of mine. 😍

Alcohol proof refers to the lacquer finish on the tray, which (theoretically) wouldn't be affected by alcohol, unlike shellac. Nice score on the watercolor. I'd definitely get a nicer frame for it...one that is more in tune with your traditional aesthetic.

If it's an early one of her paintings, it will be worth even more than current ones. Paint the frame, definitely. I agree, it likely didn't come in that frame. Actually people have found valuable paintings at thrift stores plenty, so, yes, always worth your time to look. Also, you can find gorgeous old real wood frames. I am a painter myself and found a huge (3 ft) round painting in a gorgeous old frame. I didn't care for the painting, sort of an old " 17th century English picnic on the grounds" (cardboard printed) piece. I wanted it for my country kitchen pantry area. I planned to toss the painting and paint a totally new scene, but I actually ended up keeping a good bit of the background image, and painted a quaint old farmhouse and farm scene into the focal point, and added foreground shrubs and foliage that covered up the ladies in 17th century dresses and their picnic basket. I was very pleased with the final image and no one would ever know it was an altered piece. I was a little amazed to have pulled it off, frankly. It was not an "original painting" before, now it is! I think I paid seven bucks for the piece, and I have no doubt I could make a decent profit if I wanted to sell it, but I won't, it will be something I pass on to my kids. I like the concept of "altered art". I love taking something old and giving it a new lease on life. I am like you, in being able to invision what something can become, be it a house, an old piece of furniture, even jewelry. I am glad to see many of your generation appreciate the stewardship aspect of repurposing and repairing instead of running out and overpaying for mass produced things, furniture made of compressed sawdust, and cookie cutter "McMansions". Everyone who visits my home always says how cozy and inviting it feels. That's the "permanence" of stuff with history that they are feeling, and a home that is lived-in rather than being a showcase. Works for me and mine! I love how people have been able to do things they love, and make an income out of it by posting videos as you do. Enjoy your new home and the fun of exploring new surroundings! You are blessed with a wonderful big family too, so glad to see folks out there who want more than "1.3 children", lol. Nothing more awesome in life than getting to be a mom if you ask me. I was an RN, but being Mom is the job I have loved the most.

This was a fun video to watch. I love your creativity in repurposing thrift store items and giving them new life. Thanks for sharing these transformations with us. Congrats on finding the water color painting. I agree with Mayberry. I'd try painting the trim on the frame with paint close to the original color to see if you could save it. If this doesn't work, I'd be tempted to take it to a professional matting provider. It seems to be worth investing a little money in.
