I totally agree with the point Dane/Paul has made here regarding every driver being an individual with individual needs and skills. As a late learner I understand about how skills develop over time, and I would concur that you should never listen to armchair experts who tell you that they learned how to drive in 3 hours, or did the 12 EDTs in 12 basic hours then passed their tests. If you need 40, 50 or however many hours of lessons and practice to get to test readiness, then that's what you need and will feel comfortable and confident with.

Its really hard to get lessons at the moment. I'm with dublin Airport driving school. Was more expensive then any other driving school but dont think they are amazing they changed my instructor after 8 lessons..and I had to tell him what I needed to work on... he had no handover with the other instructor.. and when I call I could be 6 weeks waiting for my next lesson even when out of lockdown. I started in June and still not finished. I paid for all lessons up front so couldn't switch schools. Dont feel like they have done any routes with me... we just go to the same place each lesson ... il prob go to a different school to do some extra lessons. Maybe in gear... but if any recommendations let me know.

I'd certainly recommend In Gear, all I can say is that I've heard a few "interesting" things about Airport Driving School and they'd probably be the very last driving school I'd try if I needed one. Best of luck with the driving 🙂

Hi Dane, passed my test yesterday with the help of your videos. I got a mark for only using the clutch when reversing around the corner rather than the clutch and accelerator. Should you use both when reversing? Thanks :)

No you should only use the clutch when reversing - the only exception is if reversing uphill and the car is struggling.

In relation to no. 2 I paid for all 12 of my lessons in one go and it wasn't until my 4th or 5th lesson that I realised I wanted to swap to a different instructor but I've felt to awkward to do anything about it

That's unfortunate, but it could be possible to resolve if you can somehow find someone else to take your place. Apart from that you don't really have many options.

Hi Dane, just have a question about pulling up next to kerb, is it possible to park too close to the kerb without hitting it, I’m obviously not close enough to hit it or scratch the wheels off the kerb but as the legal parking distance from kerb is 45 cm does that mean we have to be within the 45 cm or is 45cm a minimum? Same with reversing around the corner, worried I will be too far over to the left next the kerb. Thanks

As long as you don't hit or scrape the kerb you'll be grand. The tester won't be too strict as long as you do a decent job.

Are you taking any bookings for pre tests? lessons, I've done 12 lessons and 2 pre tests in 2019 but only getting around to attempting my test now,, I'm based in Inchicore, d8, I work in healthcare.

Any idea what the backlogs on tests are like at this stage, Dane (especially in Dublin)? Now that we are looking at another 5 weeks at least of level 5. I can't complete the 12 EDT now, so I'm falling further behind. Will be retired by the time I get this damn licence.
