The #1 fruit recommended for diabetes: Find out which fruit tops the list for its nutritional benefits and minimal impact on blood sugar.
Glycemic Index of Fruits
The glycemic index (GI) is a ranking of how quickly foods cause an increase in blood glucose levels. Fruits with a low GI are digested and absorbed more slowly, leading to a gradual rise in blood sugar.
Net Carb Count
Net carbs are calculated by subtracting fiber from total carbohydrates. Since fiber does not raise blood sugar, focusing on net carbs helps in managing diabetes.
Overall Impact on Glucose Levels
The overall impact of fruit on glucose levels depends on portion size, the type of fruit, and how it's consumed. Eating whole fruits is generally better than drinking fruit juices or consuming dried fruits, as whole fruits contain more fiber and less concentrated sugars.
Some of the fruits we'll discuss in the video
Apples
Berries like blackberries, raspberries, strawberries
Bananas
Cherries
Mangoes
Grapes
Watermelon
Guava and many more...

I need help. I’ve been trying to get into an endo for 3 years after my regular one retired. My available PCPs are not interested in treating diabetes. I've been diagnosed since 2008. I am familiar with Jenny Ruhl, Dr. Bernstein, and have tried nutritionists, education programs, and I'm exhausted and failing.

I was waiting for your take on blueberries. I can see the GI score is over 50 but I never get elevated BS with blueberries.

Thanks for the comment! Blueberries are definitely a good choice as well. Slightly higher carbs and GI compared to the other berries but certainly still a very good pick.

My nutritionist want me to count total carbs NOT net carbs. And one portion should be 15 g TOTAL carbs.

I am not a nutritionist, but I have heard that soluble fiber can raise sugar a little bit but non-soluble fiber does not raise blood sugar. Since most nutrition labels don't separate soluble from non-soluble, I was told to just subtract 1/2 of the fiber to get the net carb count. Personally, I find that high fiber foods do not raise my blood sugar nearly the amount that regular foods do.
