I like Phoenix' reaction too. Hangman's change through this was more interesting. At first, he's like, NFW Mav can do this. Then, Hangman was waiting to see Mav crash and burn-figuratively speaking; he's thinking that'll be fun. Then, as Mav dives on the target, Hangman's expression is like, "This SOB just might pull this off." Finally, all Hangman can say is "Damn", as if he realizes that he has some things to learn yet.

What I noticed and really appreciated in the movie, was the fact they used the right controls, pressed the correct buttons/levers and not made up some Hollywood Fighter stick. When he pulled the paddle swith to override the G-Limiter to pull beyond the "safe limits" made me smile... Yes, it is still a Hollywood movie, but they put a lot of good stuff in to make it look right.😊

This was actually done by Blue Angel #6 (the sneak low past solo). He tells a funny story about Tom Cruise being in the back seat. The pilot (call sign Walleye) had to wear a Mav Helment and had to have the back of his neck shaved and some of tom cruise's hair glued to the back of his neck He also did the low pass with the concept plane over Ed Harris in a Blue Angel jet and post production it was re-skinned by CGI to Blue Angel jet
@jayhope615 Жыл бұрын
it was probably tom cruise himself..he absolute y100% flew f-18's in the making of the movie,i don't think the other actors did..Tom Cruise knows how to fly these jets..they ain't going to admit it though for obvious reasons..

Idk who we need to talk to but the fact there hasn’t been a KZbin fighter pilot tournament of aces is a missed opportunity. Theres more than enough former real life pilots on KZbin plus professional sim pilots that it would be super sick and I’m sure am interesting competition. Do it in DCS obviously but either have a set aircraft all pilots are comfortable with, have the group vote on a lineup of planes to use, or have multiple events using each individual plane or a combination of all 3 I know I’d definitely watch that and I doubt it’s just me

First Super Hornets boom the SAMs while Growler buddy provides electronic warfare cover. Following SH pop up earlier and drop onto target with 6Gs or less to keep external stores and the pilots from going wonky. Then back to the carrier before bandits show up. Unless they want to get some Su-57 kills too on the way out.

I joined the USAF in 1977 a few years after Vietnam when all of the middle and senior people had been to SEA during the war. I was a crew chief on F-15A's at Langley AFB everyone had a mission first get shit done now attitude. We referred to ourselves as TAC trained killers. By the late 80's early 90's that attitude was gone and replaced with the go-along-to-get-along mind set. Of course, now days with DEI / wokeness no one dares to step out of line. No wonder recruitment and retention sucks. We need to get back to hair on fire, balls out, full speed ahead, mission first, getter done attitude. Reopen the O and NCO clubs nothing builds comradery like a few drinks, war stories, and bonding with your team. Assign company grade officers, and NCO's as "UBER" drives as a rotating addition duty to prevent DUI's. Let's put fun back in the military and sweep the eggshells off the floor.

I got out in 95 due to exactly what you're talking about. I was a nuke on a carrier (chuck pig...if you know, you know) and it was getting so damned political even in the enlisted ranks.
@novemberzed9163 Жыл бұрын
Ain't coming back. This is what happens when politics and feefees infiltrate the sphere. At first they bully you for excluding the wokies from your special cool club, and then in your foolishness, and your empathy, you let them in, then as they infiltrate and gain numbers, they tell you that YOU don't fit in anymore in a cool establishment that YOU created, and not to be selfish for wanting to cling on to outdated ideals, and so they kick you out. In the end, it was all your fault for letting them in to begin with.

I've seen guys commenting on the shortcomings of the movie < they forgot it is a movie, not a documentary. And don't think what this movie will do to younger people and join the Marines/ Navy. Are they so short-sighted? They are showing what kind of guys they are, probably the ones that create a toxic environment in their team.

Max. I don't agree with your assessment of cyclone. Yes. He is by the book, but i think he wanted mav to fly the course. Show it can be done. I think his look is. God i hope he pull this off. Cyclone wiuld have been doing everything to get mav out of the air and he most definitely would not have made him flight leader for the mission. Cyclone did what he had to get mav motivated to show the pups it can be done. I could be wrong, but think he used a little psychology for thr bezt results.
@markymarknj Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting take! It makes sense because, even though Cyclone isn't the most likable character, he's not stupid. That would be genius to use reverse psychology on Mav; you know ground him, knowing that he'd have a chip on his shoulder and want to do the mission even more.
@markymarknj Жыл бұрын
As I've thought about your point, there are a couple of pieces of circumstantial evidence that back up your take. One, Mav was able to get an airplane! Had Cyclone really been serious about grounding him, he'd have made sure word was passed down to whomever keeps the airplanes, so he wouldn't be able to requisition one. If Cyclone had really been serious about grounding Mav, why leave the door open to "borrow" a plane? Secondly, the range was open. Thirdly, Cyclone's facial expressions line up with what you said. He doesn't look angry. He's like okay, good, let's see if this crazy, rebellious SOB can pull it off; let's see if he can show the kids that the mission can be done!

@ManicSalamander Жыл бұрын
Fighter Pilot is about the only role where I would say this...I don't think there really is a place for Cyclone commanding fighter pilots. You guys are out there to win battles. Barring overwhelming supremacy in training and equipment, you don't win an air battle by religiously avoiding risks. I could see being led by someone who cares for the equipment in regular training, but they have to make space for their Mavericks (which are hopefully most of them) to get used to doing crazy shit, to get familiar with it. So it becomes less of a risk in the future. The leader should strike a balance between that essential battle-winning attitude and the need to preserve the equipment inventory and personnel. But there is a yin and a yang to it. I come from equipment maintenance. That is where you want the opposite attitude. I fix surgical microscopes and motorcycles. Every job is my personal prayer for safe travel or uncomplicated, quality surgical procedures, on behalf of the user. People like me build the foundation that every Maverick stands on when they take their risks. I ride, and I know the value of knowing EXACTLY what I am riding when I push the limits. The EXACTLY part is my work product. Unless external factors mandate a rush job (which I advocate against) I will eliminate every risk I see. Sometimes, on my own, I will experiment- take risks- on something nobody is counting on, that will cause minimal harm if it fails. Fail small. That's my rule.
