Well, there is a mod that offers helicopter engines with blades as atmo thrusters. With sounds and everything. I remember building an osprey like flyer with directional thrust mod. It was fire.

The Nook and Skycrane are easy(ish) to convert. The nook has these large 'cheeks' that can house all the lifting thrusters. The Crane can be fitted with a cargo hold that can hide all the thrusters and batteries. The Berry is a bit of a challenge but makes an excellent short range scout.

Splitsie... about that idea for a cage on the side... how about you make the floor of it out of mag-plates? No need for a lid then. Add a little lip using the bar windows or incomplete armor panels all around, group the plates, and lock them when you want to roll. You could probably use an event controller or timers to switch autolock on the plates when the cockpit handbrake switches off, or when the vehicle is moving; that way the cage locks down all your loose blocks inside it when moving, and releases when parked so you can move things around. Inside your base, you can do the same thing in large grid: make shelves using incomplete armor panels for the sides, and mag-plates for the shelf. Then you can place whatever you want on them, lock them down, and it'll be safe from deletion. A forklift would be very helpful with such a setup.
@ACID_
@ACID_ 11 ай бұрын
Event controller > If your big rover is attached to the connector unlock the shelf's in the base or if your fork lift is not attached unlock them would be a good way to controll that. I love automation in games. 💚

Also, if you repair that train, get a few carriages, you could charge people scrap for a train ride around your base. Since you've said you want a trailer, and building trailers can be something of a pain, perhaps grabbing a couple of the rail cars, then slicing and splicing them together to make a big flat bed trailer would be a good idea. The other thought that popped into my head, is why not make the Locomotive into a temporary fork lift. It's not the most agile vehicle, but it's got enough weight, it can move the big stuff without tipping forward.

Could you grind batteries down safely by having your inventory full enough that the scrap from the power cell can't go into it? I.e. weld the battery to full; place everything that's above the power cells in the battery component list into your inventory; fill the rest with any material that comes in non-fixed amounts (ice, gravel, ores, stone); dump the components. That should leave you exactly the space to grind to the top of the power cells.
@Splitsie
@Splitsie 11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, even if your inventory is full the cells with grind to scrap. I think the system works the same way as how you end up with scrap in your inventory while welding up damaged blocks, the batteries hold onto that scrap until you weld them up :/

If you look for Ice, take out your drill in one of the dry out lakes. ;-) I also began this Scenario some days before, right after I seen your Episode 2, but I choosed to make it a little more easy, because am not as good with Scripts and such stuff. I also found a nice hall, with an big Cargo Container in it and builded it up to be my base. Sadly, some hostile NPC Faction Bases emerged around me and now my base is in the Entry Path to a Fuel Station of them, and nearly every Hour some Ships flies over my base and I have to fear they will attack me. But luckily, nothing happened so far. But, I found some Wreckages and old Buildings with still functional defense Grids, so be carefull with your big Crane, or it will be blasted to shreds in no time. Also, when you not using your crane, use the Motor lock function, so it won't swing around itself when driving. ;-)

Something a bit sneaky I like to do in my singleplayer scrapyard save is, when I'm nearing a scrap signal, to start spamming the target lock while panning my camera. If it tries to make the 'establishing lock' noise you know it's in that direction, like you're "sonar pinging" the scrap. Less reliable when you're carrying grids on magplates, though.

Warehouse with shelves; a little cheeky, but if you paint the whole grid with a “Clean Armor” color (like yellow) the shelves with battery components will stand out. There is normally at least one shelf with a battery component.

So my crew and I started a scrapyard playthrough this week, and the planet Satreus looks WAY different than your vids. We have these terribly rugged and hilly "oases" spotted through the dunes and salt pans. They are a beast to traverse, especially in the on-modded Rust-N-Ready spawn rover. So thanks for that surprise.
@Splitsie
@Splitsie 11 ай бұрын
We spawned the planet in at 120km diameter, which is a bit bigger than the recommended size for it but necessary for the number of people were expected would be playing on it. That's likely what made some of the features seem a bit more nasty
