Hey everyone! Quick heads up that we did some more testing and found a variation on the HC2 2-0-0 charm set that has the same damage but gets 1 more level 1 slot. Basically, this change swaps the Hunter's Greaves in for a 5th Valstrax piece and drops to AB5. With the 2 flat raw and 4% raw dropped from Attack Boost, the 5% gained from Dragonheart 5 ends up equaling about the same amount of damage, but comes with the added bonus of being slightly easier to activate (

Hi Grav! When you mention at 3:23 that "it is also not nearly as easy to sharpen your weapon as it was last patch," does that mean that they slowed down sharpening whetstone speed? I don't think I saw that in the patch notes, and I didn't notice it just by playing pre and post 3.0 update, so I'm interested to hear a bit more about that. Thanks for the vid btw!

@@salderin Sort of. While it wasn't a direct nerf to sharpening speed, we do have less access to Speed Sharpening due to the lack of level 1 slots on the Valstrax armor. As such, it takes 2-3x as long to sharpen our weapons as it did last patch.

@@marvikv2505 Hey, this isn't really the place to advertise a non-meta set. If you want to make a build guide, please do so on your own channel or on one of the many MH Subreddits. Extensive work was done to math out optimal sets for this patch and it is really uncool of you to post multiple times advertising your own set, especially when it is massively behind the meta sets. Looking over the set itself, initial estimates put it behind even the healing horn sets of the 2.0 patch both in healing capacity and in damage output. I'm not saying don't play what you want but this channel especially is not the place you should come to to post sets that "don't work in single player".

It's not just me. Glass in the Horn Pub discord helped loads with getting these sets ready in a timely manner. We really wanted to share good information and make sure that the community was well informed what the best DPS options are. As for healing horn, I feel you on that front. I'm definitely more of a min/max player, myself so I never touched it but I know a lot of the community liked being able to heal bomb while doing damage. Luckily, dragonheart makes you tanky enough that the need for healing horn has also diminished greatly. Now, instead of providing heals, you'll be providing powerful offensive buffs with Attack Melody 2 and boosting your group's dps to cut down on fight time, and thus the chance that someone will cart.

@@Gravyon Wow wasn’t expecting a direct reply. I usually play meta DPS sets, but the healing horn was a fun change of pace for a while. Just feels kind of bad to have it become so much less viable as a play style along with the silkbind move which was only used for that play style to begin with. But the Dragonheart is really good DPS and super comfy so it’s definitely not a sad day. Definitely gonna subscribe to see your thoughts on later meta changes. Thanks again.

@@Red_Rem If you want to play Healing Horn, you still can. Most teams still benefit more from double heals with Bead than one person being able to deal a bit more damage. I know this video is almost exactly a year old, but what do you think of the Reddnaight Ritmico (Valstrax HH) in terms of running support while still doing damage? Its appeal for me is that the Ritmico's song list is probably the best one possible for pure offense - Element Attack Up, Attack & Affinity Up and Sonic Wave. Meanwhile, the Rampage Agitato S with Attack Melody II has the limited-use Tremors Negated instead. Granted, the Ritmico doesn't pack nearly the same raw as the Rampage Agitato S, but it has extremely long white sharpness like all Valstrax melee weapons, essentially meaning you only need to sharpen maybe twice per hunt, meaning more time in the fight and keeping everyone's buffs up. It probably goes really well with someone using elemental SnS or DB.
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 2 жыл бұрын
I like the songlist on that horn but it damage is just so low that it's just simply not worth the materials to craft it. It had some potential in Sunbreak but the raw is still mega-low compared to other horns of the same element. Even the final boss horn is significantly better, having more raw, 80 hits of purple sharpness, and a similar songlist. I love Valstrax as a monster but they did my boy's HH dirty.

What's going to hit harder on a build like this.... having Attack 200 w/ white sharpness or Attack 230 w/ blue sharpness? I'm referring to the Agitato S of course.
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
So we did some testing and the 30 raw difference with blue is quite a bit higher than 200 with White. 30 raw difference is 15% more damage at a baseline but since it's weapon raw, it gets scales by the % increases from Attack Boost, Dragonheart, and Attack Up Song, giving it even more value. TL;DR Sharpness Type 4 is a trap. Attack Boost IV is way better in every scenario.
@lokyanvanadis9951
@lokyanvanadis9951 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the informative content, I just wanted to point out that while you say sharpening is not that easy 30 hits of white still requires a lot of sharpening in a regular hunt due to HH losing it so fast, that's why since you have to sharpen anyway protective polish 3 might be comfier and it allows more build flexibility since you only need 1 handicraft deco ro reach white. You lose some points of attack but as long as you have 4 points it's enough, currently with a level 3 AB charm with 2 level 1 slots and 5p Valstrax I can fit in AB4, protective polish 3, handi 1, horn maestro and 3 speed sharpening and flinch free. Basically the last build where you trade raw for comfort and doesnt require a god charm.
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
That is an option, yes, but in general the amount of damage you lose by dropping to AB4 is significantly more than the dps you gain by staying in white for a bit longer. Unlike most weapons, hunting horn has to scale a second damage type, shockwave damage, that cannot crit or do ele/status but ignores hitzones. It's 35-40% of our damage on good hitzones but is way more as hitzones get worse. Stacking raw is extremely important to scaling this value. From our testing, a better solution is to simply mount your dog and sharpen while riding around to avoid sitting in one place if you cannot fit in enough Speed Sharpening.

Why don’t people use the narga hh, also why is crit boost no longer used anymore? I made a narga hh and was able to fit attack boost 7 with crit boost lv 3 is that not good?
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
So Hunting Horn has 2 different damage types: Normal Hits, which can crit and do elemental damage, and shockwave hits, which cannot crit or deal elemental damage but ignore hitzones. Shockwaves are between 35-40% of our overall damage and don't benefit from crit at all. Because of this crit is significantly worse for Hunting Horn than it is for other weapons. The Narga horn also has incredibly low raw compared to the current meta horns, so that combined with crit not scaling as well for HH, has left that particular horn in the dust. It's not a bad horn if you're still grinding through the game, but if you've gotten to Valstrax and have access to Rampage Agitato S and the Valstrax armor, then the Narga Horn is completely outclassed.

Hold on. I don't understand the part where you get a Wirebug Whisperer charm by doing Moonbow melding for Weakness Exploit. How are those two skills related to each other?
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
So the idea is that you select any skill with a 10% or lower chance. The goal is to not get that skill to show up, allowing Wirebug Whisperer the chance to appear in the 1st slot on charms, which is the only slot where it can reach level 3. Basically, you're hoping to get a WW3 2-0-0 or WW2 2-2-0 charm from the misses on that melding method. Hope this clarifies things!

But i don't think it will be possible to slot in all those, unless iam missing something please someone inform me, thanks in advance!
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
So, unlike other weapons, hunting horn doesn't gain nearly as much from stacking crit as other weapons do. This is due to hunting horn having 2 different kinds of damage that it does: Normal hits, which can crit and apply element/status, and Shockwave Hits, which cannot crit or apply ele/status but are hitzone independent, meaning they always deal damage like the hitzone on the monster is 100. Shockwave damage is 35-40% of our damage on reasonable hitzones and more than that on bad hitzones so it's really important that we scale this value as much as possible. The only ways to scale is are more Raw, higher sharpness modifiers, and the Horn Maestro skill, which provides a 10% damage increase to it. Because of this, it actually ends up being significantly more damage to stack as much raw as possible than it is to stack crit. We ran the numbers of crit sets compared to dragonheart stacking and crit is pretty far behind. Comparing last patch's Tigrex WW3 set with the current one (which was a favorite of not only the theorycrafters but also a large number of Hunting Horn Speedrunners), Crit was only about 6.6 EFR behind but it was 61 Shockwave EFR behind. That's a HUGE amount of damage loss. We also don't have many slots to spare this patch and there's just no space to stack both more raw to scale Shockwave hits and crit. Hope this helps!

I know it seems counter intuitive but having Dragonheart active actually makes you INCREDIBLY tanky. For example, Apex Los has a 1 shot fireball attack with a pretty serious wind up. With Dragonheart active, I face tanked it and only took half of my HP in damage. The full set also has over 500 defense when maxed out so you are a seriously beefy hunter, even with only 79% HP. These sets blow the 2.0 sets completely out of the water so I'd recommend upgrading as soon as you can.

@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
Compared to previous sets, it lets you survive loads more elemental 1 shot attacks. Also, it actually gains damage with this beef, rather than sacrificing everything to stack far too much defense. Not a single reason to run a build stacking that much defense since, while you might not take as much damage per hit, you certainly will extend the time you are in the hunt, thus increasing the likelihood that you will get hit. Overall, "immortal builds" are memes that don't function well enough at what they claim to do while also actively making it harder to kill the monster. The best way you can support your team and survive hunts is to kill the monster.

You get all charms in this game via the melding system. I learned recently that HC charms are rarer than I thought, so I would honestly recommend aiming for the WW3 2-0-0 charm instead. If you can make good use of the additional ES uses, it's set is arguably better, despite being at a lower EFR / Shockwave EFR. If you are deadset on wanting the HC2 charm, I recommend using Rebirth Melding. So the issue with that is that nearly 40% of hunting horn's attacks cannot deal elemental damage. Any shockwave hit is unable to deal any elemental damage at all, making elemental horns pretty mediocre outside of a few very niche speed running scenarios. For a weapon that does so much raw damage, having 160 raw, even with the god tier song list that the valstrax horn has, is a death sentence. Yes, you can use it with the soul and it's armor but even that is not enough to make up for just using a better HH with the full valstrax set.

@@Gravyon ah I did not know that, thanks for the clarification. Truly damning that there are attacks that don’t benefit from element. Jeres hoping element is actually meta in G rank/Master rank when they do eventually add it. I always felt it made more sense to specialize for a monster to max out your damage.

Slugger is pretty mediocre. It's weak enough in this game that you're almost never going to get another KO out of it. That charm isn't bad but you're much better off trying to farm the WW3 2-0-0 charm.

Why no crit boost?
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
This is mostly due to some 35-40% of the hunting horn's damage not being able to crit. Crit boost is a nice damage increase but since our shockwaves can neither crit not apply elemental damage, crit boost loses a lot of value compared to just stacking more attack, which does scale shockwave damage.

Hi, I main hunting horn but I haven't used it since 1.0 since it was a personal goal of mine to learn all the other weapons! I'm really interested in the first set with Wirebug Whisperer 3. Would you happen to know the odds of getting that WW2 + Slot2-2 talisman from Moonbow? Also since shockwave damage scales with raw, does that mean it's affected by sharpness? If so, then would it be worth considering dropping the 6 attack Boost gems for 3 Protective Polish/Master's Touch/Razor Sharp and 3 Crit Boost?
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
For the WW2 2-2-0 / WW3 2-0-0 charm, you'd need about 144 quests worth of moonbow to have a 50% chance of getting it. Considering that you can cart to the Rajang arena quest to cycle your melds, this is actually surprisingly doable. Just set 10 melds, cart to rajang 10 times (this averages about 30 seconds per quest) and cycle through your melds until it drops. Shockwave damage is affected by 3 things: Raw, Sharpness Modifier, and Horn Maestro. For this reason, we want to stack as much raw possible to maximize our damage. As such, I would not recommend Protective Polish, Master's Touch, or Razor sharp as the benefits simply aren't worth the loss of the damage from those 6 attack boost decos. Also, for the WW3 set, you don't tend to have much crit chance, so running crit boost simply isn't enough damage to make up for the lack of raw. Also, since 35-40% of our damage can't crit, crit in general is a lot less valuable than Raw.

why isnt squeezing in 1 level of crit boost worth it??
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
Hunting horn scales a bit differently than other weapons. 35-40% of our damage (on average) is what's called Shockwave Damage. This damage cannot crit or deal elemental damage/status but ignores monster hitzones. Since 35-40% of our damage can't crit, we don't get nearly as much value out of crit boost as we do just stacking more raw, which does scale this damage type.

I have a counter strike 3 charm... why wirebug whisperer
@Gravyon
@Gravyon 3 жыл бұрын
Wirebug Whisperer allows you to increase your EPH (Earthshakers per Hunt). Earthshaker is a huge portion of our overall damage (despite only getting a few uses per quest) and getting more earthshakers is a huge damage increase. The reason that we don't recommend counterstrike is because it actively punishes you for getting better at the game. If you don't get hit, you don't get the damage buff.

Yeah, healing horn is officially dead but with how much tankier Dragonheart makes you compared to previous meta sets, it's not really a big deal. Your team will get more out of the damage buffs you'll be providing as well, so it's a win-win.
