You’re awesome! I’ve seen a lot of these mistakes in my students over the years and it’s so easy for them to not focus on the full picture! The small details make such a big difference in performance and outcome! You explain it well, definitely be sure to return to your stance after kicking because we are preparing for the worst and walking off may be that one mistake that cost us 😉.

In the case of men doing any martial art, they forget to always use the rear hand in a position to protect the groin while high kicking (in some tournaments worldwide, there are accidents like that while the rounds are performing), and after kick, and return that hand to the default fighting stance.

I disagree with calling stepping before kicking a bad habit. I understand why in a point sparring sport like taekowndo you would view it that way, because power is not as important as landing your hits no matter how light, but if you want more power you have to step in or to the side if doing a round house/spinning kick. It also helps close the distance and can eventually be used to progress into skipping or jumping kicks. If hand strikes are allowed as well the fact that your opponent knows you're closing the distance to attack, isn't the end of the world because you have a plethora of techniques you could do instead from jabs to front leg kicks or you could do nothing and psych them out while getting in range.
@BlackBeltSamery5 жыл бұрын
Great point! I should clarify this for Taekwondo. Thanks for your great & respectful feedback! :)
@moeskates4 жыл бұрын
Actually I believe she is referring to when you’re doing a kick that doesn’t require a step. Tae Kwon Do also has kicks that require a step.
@thomasmiskimin897010 ай бұрын
Yes, I know I have a bad habit sometimes on a slide in round house for example of taking a step first before sliding in, instead of moving both feet at the same time then performing the roundhouse kick.@@moeskates

@davidbailey63975 жыл бұрын
Please clarify this as for Tae Kwon do. Muay Thai incorporates kicks like the roundhouse much differently and no one could argue that Muay Thai kicks are not effective. Even kicking in Hapkido is variably different than Tae Kwon do. The essential thing is understanding what is being applied and how good form in general maximizes efficiency .

MIstake #1 can be camouflaged quite easily. In a fight or sparring, you move around and as you move the front foot, throw the kick. What you said is true only if you just stand there static; that way the moving front foot would be a give away.
