I think this by far is the best top tier weightlifting channel on KZbin. I’m 22 years old 6’2 and I weigh about 244 lbs. I was 210-212 at 16 but I was always meant to be around the 200 lb mark due to my mass and height. But I was training rigorously at that age and I was using cable bench machine and I did a lot of dumbbell exercises such as DB bench presses, Standing overhead Tricep, bench dips, and a bit of back. I always didn the lat pull down machine for my back. Oh and i was boxing back then too so throwing much really REALLY did work my back alot. My point for saying all this is that you’re triceps and back REALLY do help with bench. My push ups were through the roof (keep in mind I was so weak I couldn’t even do PROPER push ups). And with that being said my bench press was thru the roof as well. I was able to do 2 plates my sophomore - jr year in weightlifting and in wrestling and everyone could not keep up not even the football players. My body has changed since i mean let’s just say I have a bit more body fat due to inactivity. I can’t even bench a plate no more so I have to rebuild myself. But everything he says is on point!!!!!

Great information. I have noticed a severe lack in part of the fitness industry as a whole regarding the importance of triceps' role in bench pressing. They mostly talk about the form and best chest exercises which, granted, is still useful advice, but doesn't reach the nuances of going beyond the chest, most of the time.

Hello Matt. I’d like to express my gratitude and deep respect to the amount of free info you give out as well as the respectfulness you do it with 🙏 I have a question. Working too much and family life makes it hard to do a full workout for a mucle every 72h. I can do a full workout 3 times a week to recover properly. I know you talk elsewhere about working out 2-3 times a week. Some Quick Thoughts on this?

Could you talk about tight nerves? Not sure if this is the right term but since lockdown ( doing less, way way more sitting ) deadlift feels harder, can feel a weird sensation in back of both lets when I hip hinge with straight legs which doesn't feel muscular stretching it feels like nerves. It's making my deadlift stop important , a huge barrier. How do I stop this? Stretch more? Practise hip hinge more?
@seaniedub2274 жыл бұрын
Stretch out those hip flexors. They probably got right from all the sitting you mentioned. This drags your pelvis forward and could be irritating on your SI nerve. Search SI nerve stretches. Best of luck

How to increase Deadlift, please teach us what accessories muscle we need to work on coach...
Pendlay rows and cheat rows for back, hack squats and leg press for leg drive, rdl's and hamstring curls at tempo, cheat shrugs with heavy weights for stability, heavy overhead carries for core, heavy glute kickbacks (i hate hip thrusts) You can build the deadlift many ways since it's a brute strength lift, but you need to focus on your personal weak points. Those will stop you from making progress or lead to injuries.

At first I didnt listen to Matt's advice on benching with your triceps. I almost injured my right shoulder again (specifically my bursa) it was a tweak, a warning. Now that I went back to benching more with my triceps and a closer grip everything feels a lot safer, and I feel like my body is not afraid to apply 100% force to the bar. Lots of people I follow eventually get shoulder or pec tweaks or injuries because of not benching with triceps. If you are new listen to Matt 😌😉

@ronin_94 жыл бұрын
@@ajithsidhu7183 brother, like Matt says over here increasing triceps strength and back strength is important for a big Bench. But eventually specificity of the movement matters. You need to bench more in order to increase your bench press. You can buy more weights if that's an option or you can buy bands for some speed work. Eventually you have to do bench press following and follow periodization program and lots of triceps and back work . I hope it helps. Also check out Matt's other youtube videos he has a lot of info over here.

I keep tweaking one pec and feeling a sharp burn in one spot in the pec despite form being perfect and not neglecting surrounding muscles. It's bothering me. It happens sometimes when I'm even going light
@jaya.24244 жыл бұрын
Are you doing the liftoff on your own? If so flaring the elbows that is typically done when not getting an assisted liftoff places the pec in a bad position and can cause that issue.
@nirvanafan5004 жыл бұрын
@@Benedict_Cypress_II thanks dude. it's just a very odd injury, it feels like a tear in one spot. And it's actually happened when I've been no where near my max. Thanks man

@@jaya.2424 Yes I lift off on my own. I thought that but have filmed myself and it looks perfect. The 3rd and last time happened with dumbbells and my elbows didn't flare at all I just felt it go and it was about 60% of my max Very odd.
@jaya.24244 жыл бұрын
@@nirvanafan500 - that being the case you might consider getting away from the bench for a bit. If declines or inclines don’t aggravate it, maybe do a block with those. We all hate to lay-off any one of the big three but a ruptured pectoral would be devastating physically and mentally.
@SluggerStark4 жыл бұрын
First off, you need to let it heal, or you will just tweak (or worse) over and over. Second, once it is healed, some deep tissue massage. I have had these issue over the years and I would say 90% of the time, it is due to over use. And like you say, it doesn't always happen on a mac set: I have tweaked my pec on a warm up set with 225 and a set of dips with an extra 90 pounds....neither of which were anywhere near max effort at the time. Anyways: heal, massage, modify your program to prevent any overtraining, eat well and stay hydrated. :)

I don't like the train heavy or quick tip. I believe it is possible to build your bench with reps. It could be easier to push reps, than kg/lbs. Some great benchers has build their bench with reps ( Josef Eriksson, Kazmaier, wenning warmups). The biggest advantage with speedwork is that it is not heavy???
