Under Attack is one of the best songs that ABBA recorded and it should have been a massive hit it is a fabulous song and it baffles me why it charted at 26 its just a brilliant song, Under Attack was recorded for ABBA's 9th album that was never completed.

Adam D, 'Under Attack' was one of the worst Abba songs and it's no surprise it wasn't a hit. Get over it!

@@Aloha808 - it reached No.26 for 4 Weeks in the UK. So it was a Hit. It was just not a very big one. To me it sounds more like a Demo than a finished Song. ABBA seemed very bored and half hearted in 1982. Some Fans think that they sounded as good as ever, but they sounded like the energy had gone to my ears...
@Aloha8085 жыл бұрын
@@stevetimms4100 , #26 for Abba is a joke or a total failure, so it WASN'T a hit. I am old enough to remember. I agree with you, though... Abba seemed half-hearted and there was no follow-up single again. I think they were right to stop releasing more failures like 'Under Attack'. I was a major fan at the time. by the way
@stevetimms41005 жыл бұрын
@@Aloha808 - In the UK any Single that reaches the Top 100 is regarded as a Hit. So No.26 would be seen as a moderate Hit. Yes, it was low, by ABBA's UK standards, but 'The Day Before You Came' had done even worse - No.32. I hated that Single at the time, but love it now. Before those 2 ABBA Singles, 'Head Over Heels' had only reached No.25. That one ended 18 UK Top 10 Hits, in a row, for ABBA. Queen had an even worse 1982 than ABBA, but instead of splitting up, they came back, with better Singles in 1984, and were big for the rest of the 1980's. ABBA made no attempt to come back.
@Aloha8085 жыл бұрын
@@stevetimms4100 The chart position has nothing to do with the quality of music. In my opinion 'Under Attack' was a mediocre American-sounding track. Some people may like it and it's okay. I listened to Radio Luxembourg all the time back then, and I don't think I heard it even once. I think Abba should've released 'When All Is Said And Done' as a single instead, but it's all water under the bridge now. 'Head Over Heels' was great and I also like 'The Day Before You Came' better now than I did in 1982.

This episode was shown on BBC Four as the final episode of the year on the 30th of December 2016 at around 7.30pm (U.K. time) for the 1982 repeat run. It was the second time to have the Christmas number one in a banned-free episode.

No members of Incantation were from Peru or South America? Members of the various incarnations of the band include Tony Hinnigan (Scottish), Mike Taylor (Irish), Forbes Henderson (English), Simon Rogers (English), Chris Swithinbank, and Chileans Claudia Figuerora, Sergio Avila and Mauricio Venegas. They achieved chart success in the UK in 1982 with the top twenty hit "Cacharpaya", and later contributed the traditional instruments (including pan pipes) to the soundtracks of the films, The Mission (1986), scored by Ennio Morricone, and A Handful of Dust (1988), scored by George Fenton. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incantation_(musical_group)

@@AdamDawson3 - 'Under Attack' sounds like a Demo to me. The Ladies vocals are not multi-tracked and the instrumental backing is weak and half-hearted. Benny & Bjorn have said - several times - that it was not Singles material. Had ABBA still wanted to be ABBA, they'd never have released 'Under Attack' as a Single - not sounding half finished anyhow. (Maybe it would have been OK as a 'B' Side). ABBA had over 20 Hits in the Pan-European Singles Charts and 'Under Attack' was one of a tiny handful, to fail to get into the Top 10 of that Chart. Most of the World was not keen on it. It only made No.26 in the UK, No.22 in Germany and No.96 in Australia. All 3 Countries were major Markets for ABBA, but there was little enthusiasm for 'Under Attack'. Also, It only reached the Top 10 in 2 Countries - No.2 in Belgium and it reached No.5 in The Netherlands. I hope and pray, that ABBA's New Songs, are far stronger and convincing, than 'Under Attack', when we finally get them - later in 2020...

In the Video for 'Under Attack', ABBA look like they don't want to be there. The whole Video is filmed in gloomy lighting and it looks dull. The Single was not helped by the absolutely horrific photo of ABBA on the Picture Sleeve. ABBA looked washed out and messed up in it!

I recall that some of the UK Music Press were mocking ABBA, in 1982, when 3 of their Singles failed to reach the Top 20. As Bucks Fizz had 2 No.1 Singles that Year, it was being said that they were bigger than ABBA and ABBA were finished. ABBA did split up at the end of that Year, and Bucks Fizz carried on having UK Hit Singles, in 1983, and 1984 etc. However, the truth is, that Bucks Fizz only had 3 UK No.1 Singles, and they spent just 6 Weeks at No.1 between them. ABBA's UK success was far bigger. ABBA had 9 No.1 Singles, with 31 Weeks on Top, between them. Plus 9 No.1 Albums, with 57 Weeks on Top and 227 Weeks in the Top 10 of that Chart. Bucks Fizz only ever had 1 UK Top 10 Album - 'Are You Ready', which reached No.10 and spent 1 Week in the Top 10. So, it was very silly, foolish and ignorant, for some 'Journalists' to say that Bucks Fizz were 'The New ABBA', in 1982...

Allen - When 'Head Over Heels' stalled at No.25 in the UK, Epic Records panicked. It had broken a 'Run' of 18 Top 10 Hits in a row, for ABBA. It was reported at the time, that Epic were going to tell DJ's that 'The Visitors' was now the 'A' Side, to try to stop the Single falling - rapidly - out of the Chart. However, they changed their minds and just let 'Head Over Heels' fall off the Chart. They probably expected a New ABBA Single within a few Months and that would be a Top 10 Hit. Instead, ABBA took until October to release 'The Day Before You Came' and People did not understand that Single. It was a Track without Chorus, by a Group, who were famous for their very catchy Chorus's. So, that stalled at No.32. Then 'Under Attack' got no higher than No.26, and ABBA took a 'Break', that never really ended.
